Nope, those aren't it. Let me see if I can find another close up. It's really a pretty gown. I swear I've never seen it before, and I really want to know the history of it!
It passes by the screen at exactly 1:29 seconds. At 2:05 - 2:21 it's dancing behind Christine and Raoul during their discussion (you can see it between them). It if makes it even more intriguing, the crown the dancer wears looks a lot like Christine's and she has green hair?

Oh yes, but that IS the Diana/Triton one! Her tiara and red stockings are very recognizable.ML6 wrote:Nope, those aren't it. Let me see if I can find another close up. It's really a pretty gown. I swear I've never seen it before, and I really want to know the history of it!

Ah! Thank you, I have seen it before. But the quality of the picture in the Complete Phantom of the Opera book does not serve it justice. It looks GORGEOUS. The blues and the greens! Thank you so much, Anea.

Re: YouTube clips
I agree, I have actually yet to find a picture in general that does it justice. The best ones I've found are when the costume is on a dummy or only partially worn (lacks wig, boots etc). I'm looking for the ultimate shot, showing all accessories as well as the vibrant colours, so if anyone have any... You know what to do.
The costume sketch is one of my favourites. I've used it for numerous birthday cards etc, it's so aesthetic and elegant.

Re: YouTube clips
Here's a similar "Masquerade" concept from Argentina. It's performed on TV, in a different staircase, with various cameras. Not nearly as successful as the Hamburg one, especially since they've dropped Red Death at the end, but cool nonetheless. A shortened version of the title song is performed before Masquerade, very easy to tell they're lip syncing...

Nevermind that the lipsyncing could be better... This video is quite interesting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EShn_zNJVRU
First two verses are Renée Knapp and Tim Tobin. Renee Knapp's dressing gown is way too short for her, haha. But I love that style of the dressing gown, and I also love the little curl hanging down over her ears.
Two next verses (+cadenza) are Anna Maria Kaufmann and Peter Hoffman. They're not in costume (as such... They've tried, but it's not costumes from the show), and they look delightfully early 90s fluffy. Sets are bizarre. Never... erm... envisioned the Phantom's lair like that. Like the Knapp/Tobin set better, reminding of something that could have been from TOM.
The quality of the video is excellent, especially for its age and being from a TV show.

How in the world did I miss that the first time around? Poor Carlotta.
Love that video though. Makes me grumble more and more about how the movie looks.

What I wonder, is: how the heck did she get back on her feet? That skirt is absolutely impossible to move about in, it's literally a cage. And the others seems to just keep on walking/dancing... haha!MasqPhan wrote:Viscountess wrote:But seeing Carlotta totally wipe out in her entrance was the funniest thing ever!operafantomet wrote:Here's a similar "Masquerade" concept from Argentina. That's just so weird, is it really supposed to be something serious? I don't get it at all, and the singing...
Re: YouTube clips
Lol, that video is all the rage in the phandom it seems. It's being discussed everywhere, and for good reason!
The kid's cute though... I like his storyline. I just don't get the rest of it...

Hungarian TV performance. This always makes me giggle 'cause the roles they played were Carlotta and Phantom yet here it looks more like it's Christine & Raoul singing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6LHtL16T4w
Another Hungarian TV performance of the theme song, sung by a group called Adagio.
There was one more video I wanted to post but I can't find it ATM...

Fantastic 1986 London footage, of Masquerade, Hannibal and AIAOY, and also STYDI rehearsal. Plus nice shots within the Palais Garnier, and short interviews with original cast and crew. These clips are from the week before Phantom opened on Broadway, and also shows the INSANELY long line of people who wants to buy tickets outside HMT in London. And this was 1,5 years after it opened!
I also like the comment towards the end, about the unmasking. Crawford explains that the mask stands for his desire to be normal. When Christine strips his from the mask, she strips him of all his hopes. I also like the follow-up comment about the moment when Christine gives back the mask - THAT'S when the Phantom falls in love with her. Never thought of that, but it does make sense, especially because he seconds later allows her to return to the outer world.
And how much cooler Carlotta looked as a reddish blonde than REDHEAD or brownie as she mostly appears today. Plus, I like the fact that it was Piangi saving her from the falling curtain originally.
And ha-ha, "There will be elected a new president in the USA before some of these people get tickets for the show"...
Should I stop rambling? I guess I should...

Re: YouTube clips
I think I have those on video tape somewhere. I love the intro of the first one. "Could play through the year 2000!"
Re: YouTube clips
Part 2 of that video, Operafantomet, has key information from Prince himself within the first 30 seconds that has always made me be against the sequel. I know this thread is not about the "sequel," but Prince's vision is explored here.

Re: YouTube clips
I hate the canned track they always use. Phantoms have to rush through the song. Oh well. He's back in good voice, I guess.
Re: YouTube clips
Yes, it's a shame when they have to rush through it, it's such a beautiful song. But JOJ is amazing, I saw him as the Phantom on Friday night and he is such a great performer.

Thanks for posting the video of JOJ. He sounds great.

Re: YouTube clips
I'm sort of surprised that I haven't seen this video somewhere in this thread so here we go This is a section from 'Ukraine's Got Talent' by a 22 year old man named Artem Semenov who sings the part of the Phantom AND Christine. This had some serious potential of being absolutely painful to listen to, yet each voice is completely separate from the other. If you don't watch the actual video and just listen to it, you would probably never guess that they are the same performer. I'm not entirely convinced that he's not channeling Klaus Nomi, but it still an amazing performance.
Thoughts?

You bet! Hahaha. But not so much on the voice(s). He's good. Though I'm not thrilled about the pop feel of the song, and I actually prefer the female parts of the song to the male.
But the stage show? The costumes? The pyro?? How kitschy and tacky was that? And the a-a-a in the end was totally unimpressive. The point of that part of the song is that Christine almost goes into a trance (haha, pun not intended), singing her heart out. He just stood there, singing the same low a-a-a-a's over and over again. Anticlimax.

Hungarian music video (sung by Csonka Zsuzsanna and Bardóczy Attila):
I like the moment Phantom points his finger to the viewer
I believe this was filmed in The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest. Correct me if I'm wrong:
