That's hilarious. I wish we had video of some of the pranks of the past; MC was famous for punking his castmates.

That was awesome. The look on his face when he turns around. heh heh
Was that Madame Giry swearing in the background? Don't get the ballet mistress ticked off.

Re: YouTube clips
It is indeed Madame Giry. In addition to Nicky Adams and several ensemble members, you can also see Anthony Gabriele (the conductor) appearing near the end. Apparently this was done just after the five minute call during the intermission.
It is clear that this group have a great sense of homor. This includes the conductor, who has been having a great deal of fun with the cast and orchestra while still bringing out the best in this fantastic cast (the best, in my opinion, in about five years). He's actually stayed on, too, for over a year, which has become increasingly rare with this production. I think that the contenuity has done the production a great deal of good. The comraderie has also made for a cohesive company, which has been important this fall due to all the sickness.
I agree, Senor, it would have been great to have seen some of Michael Crawford's pranks. I guess just the stories will have to do.

I also got the feeling of it being an unison and... I dunno, solid ensemble. Glad to hear this is actually the case and not just something I wanted to experience...auctioneer wrote:It is clear that this group have a great sense of homor. *goes off to laugh some more of the "Barry James' worst nightmare" video*
Re: YouTube clips
I am just nitpicking (sorry) but the video is of the last cast therefore it's Heather Jackson, sorry I don't usually pick up on that but I didn't want her being mistaken for Nicky... *goes off back to sickbed to stop being so grumpy!*
ETA: I saw this video a good few months ago on Facebook and believe me whenever I go to HM's now and hear the Ent'racte all I can picture is Barry running out his dressing room.

Thanks so much for posting those, I hadn't seen them!
Re: YouTube clips
Oops - you're right. How could I possibly mistake Heather Jackson? She's somebody we all miss, for sure, although I'm glad to see that Nicky Adams has been getting better in the role (though she had a hard act to follow!)

Re: YouTube clips
Yes, even I'll admit Nicky is definitely improving. When I saw her in December she didn't annoy me which was a plus, but Heather is such a hard act to follow and she is definitely missed. I quite like one of the Giry understudies but unsure if the one I like stayed on or not... Heather just really put her stamp on the role.

Re: YouTube clips
Yes - Heather is the definitive London Giry, though Leila Martin in NYC played the part for about twelve years. Both were fantastic in such different ways. What was amazing about Heather Jackson was her ability to delivery consistently precise and sharp performances. You never had to worry about her being off, and her professionalism, I believe, upped everyone else's game. I imagine that the company misses her, too.
Thanks for the compliment on the username -- it's my homage to the best part of the show, in my opinion!

I loved both videos. Poor Barry, the look on his face when he realize they fooled him is priceless. He sure had a moment of panic. "What?!"
Re: YouTube clips
Great, short local news clip from 1993 before the LA production closed, highlighting Dale Kristien, but with great footage of MC, Robert Guillaume, and the amazing Davis Gaines:

Here's an interview with Davis Gaines on Donny & Marie, and Gaines and Donny Osmond singing a shortened, harmonized version of MOTN, and Gaines singing a song I don't know with Marie Osmond:

Re: YouTube clips
Okay, was going to create an entirely different topic for this, but I figured I'd ask here first. So if it's against the rules of the topic, go ahead and delete.
On PhantomFans.net (think back, this was a LONG time ago) someone posted a link to a Kindergarten class performing Phantom of the Opera. What was funny about it? The kids were so YOUNG. Two girls were onstage, in a 'dressing room' set. And there was a mirror in the middle of the stage (made out of a trash bag) and the Phantom stepped through it, and he started chasing the two girls (presumably Christine and Meg) around. Suddenly, Christine fainted and they had the little boy playing the Phantom start signing the All I Ask of You Reprise. (So this kid is singing with Michael Crawford's voice.) I think they also performed Masquerade, too. And the masquerade consisted of five kids. :O
I know it wasn't on YouTube, but it might have been. I lost the website which it came from, but there is a chance someone else might have it? Or remember what I was talking about. I want to find this video because it was funny.

Alas I don't know where it's from, but it sounds hilarious! Do share it if you find it.
Re: YouTube clips
I wish I knew too. It was pretty hilarious. The teacher I guess had his or her students do a whole bunch of weird stuff. I think the kindergarteners even did CATS. Which is a trip.

I know the video you're talking about, I love the video you're talking about...and I HAVE the video you're talking about!
Click here for EPIC-ness. (Third down on the left side.)
This video kills me every time I watch it. I just about died laughing the first time I saw it, but then I lost the link when PFN died as well. I searched forever and was so ecstatic when I found it that I now have it bookmarked as "PHANTOM KIDS!!!"

A wonderful rarity I stumbled upon on YT. This is Jan Ammann, current Count of Krolock in Oberhausen's production of "Tanz der Vampire" singing "Music of the Night". (In German) I can't wait till he does the full role!! ))

Heh, I think I recognize the instrumental tracks they were using for those. I like how Jan does his verse in the title song lower, the way that Alexander Goebel and Peter Hoffmann did... I'm not a huge fan of his Krolock, but he might make an interesting Phantom.

Meh, not a fan of transposing the Phantom's verse in the title song an octave down. It's my favourite song and for me is all about power power power, and I don't get the same feeling when it's sung lower.
I don't get what went on with Alex Goebel and that verse though. On the recording it's done like Peter Hoffmann, an octave lower, and live it was sometimes like that...yet sometimes it WASN'T like that live. Maybe he re-recorded the track during his run? Didn't he go away a bit and then come back for the final performance(s)? Maybe it went back into the normal octave on his return. *shrugs*
Re: YouTube clips
The POTO Wedding dress makes a special appearance in a Pia Douwes Workshop/Concert. Did the Empress borrow from Christine after seeing the movie?
The wedding dress is loved by everybody
Fast forward to 2.45 and enjoy! Pia sure is a sweet teacher and she's got taste!

I absolutely love Pia in everything she does. She is truly one of my favorite singers. She can sing Phantom songs, but her voice is a little too hard for Christine. But its so perfect for Norma.
Anyways, to the dress! I watched this the other day (when looking for videos with her) and I noticed that. I was like... that's not a dress from Elisabeth! I wonder who wore that dress before her?
