I haven't seen this video posted either in this thread or in the Broadway/US Tour thread. It's Patricia Phillips giving a backstage tour of Phantom in NYC. Nice video with good detail.

It looks amazing, I wish I could have seen this production. Anyone know who the Phantom and Christine is?
Re: YouTube clips
Christine is definitely Irasema Terrazas. The Phantom strangely seems to be Saulo Vasconcelos. I say strangely, as he was the alternate Phantom. But it might be Juan Navarro (principal) as well. Raoul is José Joel.EarlFan wrote:ML6 wrote:Check out these amazing videos I found on YouTube for the Mexican (?) production! It looks amazing!

Re: YouTube clips
Hehehe... I saw the Egyptian college video as well, and I agree it was BAD. I mean... wow. In all fairness, it seems like they weren't native English speakers, which may explain their lack of acting ability, but still... a good director could have worked around that. And the spoken bits that were meant to be sung? When I saw that "Stranger Than You Dreamt It" had been reduced to that, I wanted to hit something. And the finale... oh lord. Okay, I'd better stop before I give myself an aneurysm.
The Mexican vids were sublime, and I think the Phantom is Saulo, though I could be wrong. Love him in the role, both in Mexico and Brazil. ^_^

One of the first things they taught me in my college voice classes was if you're singing something in a language you don't know, you learn what the translation is--word-for-word, ideally. That way, you can make the lyrics mean something instead of just random syllables attached to notes. The actors in this might not have English as a first language, but they should still have learned what they're saying and worked with it.
For what it's worth, I've done my own captioning of this, erm, performance--Showing here.

Re: YouTube clips
Not the best of sound, but some amazing footage in this "Phantom der Oper/Musik der Nacht" from Hamburg. It was made for a TV show, and resembles the Canadian video with it compressing the mirror scene, the title song and MOTN into one music video. For "lost dress" fans, I can tell that it's well featured in the first couple of second of the video...

A related video is the "Masquerade" scene of the same cast, shot in a grand building of which I don't know the name. Whenever I see this video I grief how the 2004 movie turned out, seeing how spectacular Bjørnson's costume design and Gillian Lynne's choreography is in closeups:

I think I've posted all these before, but don't remember if it ws here... Anyway, here's a third "stage gone video" clip from Hamburg, this one is "All I ask of you", with Colby Thomas and Ray Baggard. I adoooore the Wishing dress she wears in this clip!

You know you're obsessed when you watch a video for a few seconds of a costume.
And, YES! That Masquerade and Brightman's WYWSHA music video is what the movie should've looked like.

Re: YouTube clips
I like the German masquerade video a lot but I think there are two things missing from it. I miss seeing some close-ups of the monkey girl and also of the trio (or are they four) who are listening in on Raoul's and Christine's conversation. Those elements would have lifted it, making the video get more layers.

Backstage in Osaka, Japan. 4:18: What does Christine actually have in her dressing room? Also lots of clips and interviews, but everything is in Japanese.

Part 2 of the video above. More stage clips, closeups of crying audience (WTF?? ), the world's most enthusiastic journalist (or fan, not sure) is shown around on stage. Nice closeups of the Don Juan table. Plus an interview or conversation with a faceless Japanese dude with afro. Yup.

Eeee! A Close-up of the Aminta costume, and even a relatively clear view of the lost dress!

Re: YouTube clips
I've heard that before (I think it was recorded around '95 or '96 when Banderas was being coveted for the movie), but the dude is funny. I've thought since I first became a fan of his that he should get a gig on an American sitcom.

I was at the concert that he did this at and it was May, 1999 at the Trump Taj Mahal(not my recording). He had three shows and did the rap the first night. The audience nearly died laughing.
He introduced a few other new songs that night (Impossible Dream & Man of LaMancha) but scraped rap for the remainder of his shows. He said that the rap almost killed his voice. Dale is the one who came up with the Banderas line.

Re: YouTube clips
Here is the parody on Vladimir Putin called "The Phantom of The operA (KGB)" (in Russian "operA" means the official of the criminal militia), I think that authors are hinting at that Putin was in KGB and Federal Security Service.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7a0BsHkjAQ
I've made the translation (the lyrics is rather politician). By the way, "Cheka" (Russian ЧК) means "Extraordinary Commission", and "the chekist" is the member of Cheka
The lyrics:
The little scene (number) with a split personality is calling to your attention. I ask you to support me. I’m so nervous.
The white:
The Russian President,
And not the chekist.
Three years already my soul is clean.
But there is a T-joint in my soul:
The Phantom of The KGB has penetrated into my mind.
He’s my double.
The black:
The life can be started again for hundred times,
But you, the seal of Cheka, are forever.
Of that your seal I’m the keeper.
The Phantom of The KGB has penetrated into your mind.
He’s your essence.
The white:
I breathe the same air with the people.
I read the speeches…
The black:
And I write them.
I feel fine with you…
The white:
And I – with you.
Both:
The Phantom of The KGB has penetrated into my mind
And became the destiny.
The black:
Your popularity is increasing, but
Mine is increasing too.
And what the joke is this…
The white:
In destiny itself.
Both:
He, of whom the people had been dreaming,
Was voted.
The Phantom of The KGB has penetrated into my mind
And orders…
The white begins to vocalize.
The black:
Sing, my Angel of Kremlin!
Sing to me! Sing to me,
my Angel of Kremlin!
Sing!

Re: YouTube clips
Hey! It's been a while, but I got a question about a dress in the Masquerade sequence of those "stage gone video" videos.
There is a dress which seems like a response to Christine's Queen of the Night dress? Can you tell me what it is, Anea? I'm really intrigued because it looks really pretty alongside Christine's. There is a nice shot of it behind the Half Man/Half Woman costume starting at 1:00 - 1:03.

The only other costumes that reminds of the Star Princess one is Carlotta's and the mint green/turquoise Diana/triton one. The former because they're similar in shape and details, only with very different colours and symbolism, and the latter because she wears similar boots and tiara. They can be seen here:
