And Romick is also a baritone, so it'd be pretty much impossible for him to sign Piangi.artistkae wrote:Viscountess wrote:Kinda like how Kimilee Bryant has never played Meg!ravnquest1 wrote:justin-from-barbados wrote:wow, so what male role HASN'T he played over the years?
Piangi is the only one.
But that's probably because she can't dance en pointe, right?

MaskedLion wrote: Hey everybody, does anyone have shots of the monkey musicbox from international productions? I am thinking of building one and could use some reference outside of the S.F Musicbox one, Thank you!
1. The original monkey musical box from West End 1986 (there's a better version in the Complete POTO book).
2. Germany (I think it's from Hamburg, but I also think the same was used in Stuttgart and Essen).
3. Basel, Switzerland.
4. Newer West End, ca. 2008.
5. Copenhagen, Denmark (Madame Giry and Firmin knitted him a cap so he wouldn't be cold backstage ).
6. Buenos Aires, Argentina
7. Broadway, USA.
8. Broadway, USA.
9. US Tour, USA. A bit different face/eyes than the Broadway one(s).
10. Toronto monkey in making. The maker showing how the mouth is soft and moveable.
Re: Rare pictures 1
Some more, from the Auction scene:
1. Steve Barton, original Broadway production 1988.
2. Unknown... Anyone know where this is from and/or who the Raoul is?
3. José Joel, Mexico ca. 2000.
4. All I know is that this is from the UK. Oliver Thornton, West End?
5. Tim Martin Gleason (I think), Broadway ca. 2008.
6. Tomas Ambt Kofod and Tori Cooper, Copenhagen 2009.
7. Japan (I'm so bad at identifying the various cast members here...)
8. Bengt Nordfors, Stockholm ca. 1989. Looks like the Copenhagen one came from Stockholm.
9. Revived Korean production 2010.
10. Original West End production, 1986. Note that two persons originally presented the monkey musical box.
11. Original Japanese production, ca. 1989.
12. Original Aussie production, ca. 1990.
13. Another unknown one... any guesses?

Not complaining on Brucker! I found his fluffy hair cute. Should of course have added a smiley overneath.ML6 wrote:operafantomet wrote:Pretty, pretty, pretty, PRETTY, pretty blue Wishing dress! THe side drapes are fab:

Anyhow, some portcullis pictures never hurt?
1. Michael Crawford and Maria Kesselman in West End ca. 1987.
2. Peter Karrie in Toronto ca. 1997.
3. Japan. As usual I'm lousy with names, but this looks like an early picture, ca. 1989.
4. I wanna say Thomas Schulze. It's definitely Colby Thomas. Hamburg ca. 1997.
5. John Owen Jones, West End ca.... 2000? I think Christine is Deborah Dutcher.
6. Uwe Kröger, Essen 2006. He looks like IJB here.
7. More JOJ loveliness.
Re: Rare pictures 1
Ramin Karimloo as Raoul, from the November 2003 brochure in London. The Phantom is John Owen Jones, while the Christine is Katie Knight Adams. Ramin Karimloo is not my cup of tea as the Phantom, in neither versions, but he was a fantastic Raoul. One of my favourites!
In the box during "Think of Me".
2. As old Raoul
3. In "Little Lotte".
4. and 5. His expressions are just priceless...
6. From "Notes I/Prima Donna".
7. From the rooftop scene.
8. From the Masquerade double-spread inside the brochure.
9. From the backside of the brochure.
10. Giant Ramin!Raoul looming over the Phantom and Christine. Note the "subtle" photoshopping of Christine's dress...

Re: Rare pictures 1
Various covers used in the West End brochures after the white one (in chronologic order):
1. The 10th anniversary brochure, 1996. It was a cover attached outside the white one, which they went back to for some years.
2. The "Golden angel" cover. It was introduced ca. 1999.
3. "21 years on the London stage". This is one of my favourite covers!
4. This one ain't bad either!
5. The most recent one (unless they've changed it?). A bit dull. But at least black...
6. Closeup of the unmasked face from the Perry book.
7.Ramin Karimloo Earl Carpenter unmasked.
8. London's Red Death mask.
9. Gina Beck with the mask.

Ah, sorry. Will change that. I had both brochures up, but only went for one of the unmasked pictures. Mixed up which one!

Re: Rare pictures 1
Thank you, Callie Daae!
I pondered on whether to put this in the Danish and Swedish thread, the London production thread, or here. It ended up here. Thing is that I wanted to show how perfect cast announcements can be done, as opposed to the random routines at Her Majesty's Theatre. At Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen they always put up a complete cast list at the top of the grand staircase. They list every single performer and musician working that evening, specifying which roles the various people on stage are playing, and which instrument the musicians are playing, putting the date and time on top of the sheet, as well as of course adding the logo or name of the musical. These sheets are also available in the souvenir stand, for free, and you automatically get one if you buy a souvenir brochure. They do that for all their productions.
Seriously, that's how it should be done. OK, so the cast board at Her Majesty's Theatre looks more posh, but what use is it as long as they update it whenever they feel like it, and they only list the most important names? I don't think the list DNT makes is a major expense. OK, so they need a person to fill in who's performing. But all cast members check in two hours before the show, and surely they need to write it down somewhere anyway, in terms of salary etc. Printing the black-and-white sheet is not expensive. And it's a fantastic reference to have some years down the line, to know exactly who performed and played that evening.
The list above is from the very first performance I saw in Copenhagen in 2009. But I saw one a couple of hours later as well, with Flemming Enevold and Teresia Bokor...

Re: Rare pictures 1
That is a good idea instead of the small inserts that fall out or relying on the cast board, though it is still nice to have announcements as well.
Re: Rare pictures 1
True, nothing beats announcements. But Her Majesty's Theatre has neither announcements nor small inserts. They have a randomly-updated cast board by the ticket office. It may or may not be right, and is often updated during the interval. It's particularly bad in the evening performance after a matinée. Sometimes the matinée cast will be listed all evening.SenorSwanky wrote:That is a good idea instead of the small inserts that fall out or relying on the cast board, though it is still nice to have announcements as well.
Cast board at HMT. For this performance it did list Rohan Tickell as Piangi right before the show started. But on my way out I checked again, cause the Piangi on stage was definitely NOT Tickell. Andrew Keelan was now listed. OK, so I'm a Phantom nerd and needs to know who I've seen. I'm also nerdy enough to know how the various singers sounds. But the general audience don't. And I think it's so unfair to the alternates and understudies to not give them credit (I.E. tell people in advance they're performing). I can't believe British Equity is OK with this.
ETA: Ellen Jackson was also listed for both performances. But when I spoke to one of the (real ) dressers, she said Jackson had the whole week off. Again, it probably doesn't affect the regular theatre goer. But nevertheless it annoys me. Especially since me and Scorp had decided to stalk her...
Re: Rare pictures 1
Autograph cards from hamburg. Both shows Christine in "Think of Me", the first is alternate Renée Knapp, the second is principal Colby Thomas. I really got a kick out of the Knapp one, I've never seen it before in my life!
I found it in a German Phantom facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=23664016148&v=wall
ETA: OK, seriously. This is not funny. I have a picture of Renée Knapp in basically every single Christine costume . the slavegirl, Elissa, the dressing gown, the Rooftop dress, the Star Princess, the Aminta costume and the wedding dress. But none of her in the blue dress. It's gotta exist, somewhere. Baaah.

Re: Rare pictures 1
That's a shame. I think they're better in the American productions about updating the cast board and putting in inserts and doing the announcements. The performers do deserve credit, and we nerds deserve to know what surprise performances we'll be seeing.
Re: Rare pictures 1
As annoying as HM's cast board can be I do remember the time Simon went off halfway through the show and I actually watched them change the Raoul to "Will Barratt" in the interval of said show.
On the other hand, I don't know if I ever told you guys about the time I went into the foyer to be greeted with a cast board that said - "The Phantom - Nigel Richards Christine - Ramin Karimloo Raoul - Simon Bailey." I then had the bright idea after leaving of going back to take a pick and it had been changed
Most of the time while the main characters are usually pretty accurate they just leave the whole ensemble's names up.

That would certainly have made an interesting performance! It's a shame someone corrected it before you got a picture.

I don't remember if this has been posted previously, but here's lots of cool pictures of Kiara Sasso (Brazilian Christine). I love the ones from Final Lair, especially the one of her kneeling. Judging from Saulo Vasconcelos' mic and lack of wig, I would think it's a dress rehearsal of sorts.

I found this picture on tumblr and I have to say--I'm in LOVE with the colours and angles.
Juan Carlos Barona and Julia Moller during “Music of the Night”--I'm not sure what production those two were in though?
and Sarah Lawrence during "I Remember"

Thats the Madrid production, I remember when those pics came out (they were some HUGE versions of that same pic) and everyone was comenting about the drapery in the background.
My guess is it was placed there because of the photoshoot, they prubably were getting too much reflection from the flash in the back mirrored wall.
Some productions the back mirror is flown when not needed, but in others it is actually permanently on the back wall.

Re: Rare pictures 1
What's odd is that the drapes are present in all pictures I have of the boat scene/first lair from Spain. As there didn't surface too many pictures from the Madrid production (it was kinda overshadowed by the 2004 Madrid terror attack), all of them might be from the same dress photo shoot, like a dress rehearsal. But it's still an interesting feature.justin-from-barbados wrote:Thats the Madrid production, I remember when those pics came out (they were some HUGE versions of that same pic) and everyone was comenting about the drapery in the background.
