Rare pictures 2
THIS! It's just a world of difference in atmosphere and genuine facial expressions. Joan Marcus takes good photos when allowed to take them during a dress rehearsal or performance, but the staged Broadway photos is a snore. They would be better off just photoshopping in the new heads, cause they really all look the same...ML6 wrote:Once again, the London production shines when it comes to their pictures. I nearly got into a fight with the admin of the Phantom Broadway page on the account that Joan Marcus' photos are boring, unoriginal and frankly out of date.
Charleygirl's post on those pictures, my eyes go instantly to the one with Raoul and Christine in the final lair. It doesn't look staged, it looks as though they were in the moment when it was caught.
charleygirl, than you so much for those good scans (and for labeling the photos so well too!).
dramagirl1990, the Crawford photo you want is this one, isn't it?

I only have photos of the "Bee Woman" and "Napoleon". Haven't put "Napoleon" online yet, but "Bee Woman" can be seen with the other dummies, here:Masqueradelove wrote:Does anyone have pictures of the masquerade dummies made by Sue Wilmington for the Vegas Phantom

Well, given what they've done with that new boat pic of Hugh and Sierra...
And you're very welcome!
Re: Rare pictures 2
Hahaha, true. I haven't found the exact origin of the boat photo. It resembles the photos of Trista Moldovan and Hugh Panaro, but no exact match. So I wonder if they took a photo of the new leads in the boat but wasn't happy with how Sierra Boggess looked it in? Though that seems unlikely, she always looks lovely in photos...charleygirl wrote:operafantomet wrote: They would be better off just photoshopping in the new heads, cause they really all look the same...

I thought it was the one of Hugh and Samantha Hill for a moment, but it's not, even though the two are very similar.
This version from the new Broadway leaflet photographed by wanderingchild on Tumblr would seem to be the original (the lighting on Sierra's face looks right), but if that's the case I have no idea why they decided to go with that terrible Photoshop bodge job.

But.... WUUUUT? That one is beautiful. Why would they mess with it?charleygirl wrote:This version from the new Broadway leaflet photographed by wanderingchild on Tumblr would seem to be the original (the lighting on Sierra's face looks right), but if that's the case I have no idea why they decided to go with that terrible Photoshop bodge job.

Your guess is as good as mine! How anyone could think that altered picture actually looks better is beyond me.
Re: Rare pictures 2
Since lots of people apparently haven't seen these, I feel like sharing. Cause they are some of the most dynamic and atmospheric photos to come out of the Broadway production in ages. Cast is Hugh Panaro, Samantha Hill, Kyle Barisich and Michele McConnell, and they're all by Kyle Froman:

Re: Rare pictures 2
Those are some amazing angles! Love the one in the manager's office with Carlotta just storming in. And that post-unmasking shot still floors me.

Two more photos, from a less stellar photographer but an equally stellar production: The draped proscenium and the curtain call at Her Majesty's Theatre on January 25th. The cast was Lara Martins, Antony Hansen, Marcus Lovett and Anna O'Byrne. And Barry James doing a non-drunk Firmin!

^Is Raoul's shirt always that ...'open' in the London production? Not complaining, just curious

Re: Rare pictures 2
Haaaahaha, amusingly enough that was my first thought too. Anthony Hansen plays a bit of a superhero Raoul, so I think he just made the shirt... eeer, match. Most London Raouls wears it less open, the exceptions are probably Steve Barton and Oliver Thornton. And Ryan Silverman and Andrew Ragone in Las Vegas, but they wore a slightly different shirt I think.StrangerThanUDreamt wrote:^Is Raoul's shirt always that ...'open' in the London production? And now I'm really curious to see him (not that there's much chance of that). I felt Ragone gave off a real "Superman" vibe--he was so noble and strong it almost seemed like he shouldn't be for real, but he was genuinely that good--and it's one of the things I really liked about him.

Re: Rare pictures 2
Those Broadway photos are what I'd love to see on the front of house! He's clearly very engaged in the emotional poignancy of these moments.
Anea- great shot of the pre-show setup in London.

Those images you posted of the current Broadway cast are amazing. So much better than Joan Marcus'. They remind me of Clive Barda's, only better quality.

I think Joan Marcus is underrated in the way that she is "forced" to do posed promotional photos and not take photos during a performance. There's only so much atmosphere and mood you can capture in such photos. The photos she did for Las Vegas and the "Longest Running" brochure are of a different caliber alltogether, and no wonder - they were taken while the actors were performing instead of posing.ML6 wrote:Those images you posted of the current Broadway cast are amazing. That said, I think the new photos taken by a new photographer shows some interesting angles and moments Joan Marcus has never captured, and it might be because of the "fresh eyes" on the production. He's also taken several ballet photos in the past and is used to capture movement and speed. I think it shows in his Phantom photos.
Anyone gotten the new Broadway brochure yet?

Then she certainly needs to step up and offer the challenge of taking the photos while in the midst of a dress rehearsal or something. I'm just sick and tired of those awfully staged, not feeling the 'vibe', photos.

Re: Rare pictures 2
So I found this photo on Topfoto...and have decided it's the most perfect boat picture I've ever seen. Problem is, Topfoto doesn't have a scrap of info about it, not even a year. Does anyone have a larger/non-watermarked version of this photo, or even know who we're looking at?
Thank you!

Do you remember the credits/tags for it? Which production it's from? Easier to look in my files if I know which production or actors to look for. I think it's either Basel or West End?MlleMusique wrote:So I found this photo on Topfoto...and have decided it's the most perfect boat picture I've ever seen. Some World Tour love, folks? Here's Brad Little, Claire Lyon and Anthony Downing, from their current Seoul run:

Similar, here's Jonathan Roxmouth, Claire Lyon (Emilie Lynn) and Anthony Downing, from the World Tour's previous Manila run in 2012. The "Notes II" photo is of alternate Emilie Lynn, the rest is of Claire Lyon.

Operfantomet, that's the problem: there were no tags, nothing beyond "lair" and "Christine" and "boat". There was no year, no actors, no nothing--I already checked twice! I know Topfoto's 'unknown' photos often turn out to be Basel or UK Tour (poor Zoe Curlett never gets her name tagged on anything!), if that helps...I knew it was a long shot, but I figured I'd ask anyway! Thanks!
