OMG cake! And sooo much cooler than the one they had last time...
Re: Rare pictures 1
I was going to say that's a very odd/exotic looking cake (looking like fruit salad ), but then I realised it's little roses around the numbers... Looks great!
Re: Rare pictures 1
I noticed Lisa Vroman has some new (?) pics in her site - at least I've never seen them before:

I love the Hannibal slavegirl one, and the Aminta picture. Very rare!

"Old school" from my Photobucket:
Gorgeous Brightman pics from Palais Garnier
Maria Kesselman, original Christine understudy slash Mirror Bride slash Triangle girl, in West End
Rosemary Ashe. I know I'm in minority, but I really love that original Elissa skirt.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I've FINALLY gotten some good pictures of the "Green lady" from Masquerade:
Birgit Lyngholm, swing in Denmark. She's played every female ensemble role except the seamstress/dresser! But the "Green lady" costume was her main costume unless she followed someone else's track. Pics posted with permission.

Re: Rare pictures 1
Oh dear, I've just learned how to make screencaps...
Josefine interviewing Danish Phantom Preben Kristensen AKA "the small Phantom". He was marvellous in action! As was Josefine. My fav. part must be the named Phantom's facial expression when Josefine said "You have this... organ... and I've played this organ..."
From left: Preben Kristensen, Eva Malmgren, Mia Karlsson, Tomas "Tomas!" Kofod
And just cause it's so funny:

I've always loved this photo of Helen Hayes with Jeff Keller as The Phantom. I remember saving it when it was posted at PFN and, somehow, it's survived at least three or four computer crashes.
I used to have one or two other photos of Jeff and I know they survived the crash...I just can't find them right now.

Here are some, hopefully semi-rare pics someone might enjoy...
And apologies if they're huge, if someone can tell me how to post as thumbnails I would be very grateful!
Sarah Brightman
Janet Devenish (OLC Meg)
Jill Washington
Iren Bartok (Aussie alternate, apparently)
Michael Crawford

As for posting thumbnails, you should have an option for a code labeled "IMG Thumbnail" in Photobucket (if not, you should be able to turn that on in your link options). It's will post a thumbnail version that will link to the original in your album. That's what I did for a couple of mine in the Fans Week thread.

Oh thank you so much for posting that Wandering Child picture of MC. That is my favorite MC picture
Re: Rare pictures 1
I love that SB pic on page 1! Looks late West End (or early B'way?) - is the year 1987 correct?
Re: Rare pictures 1
I think it looks West End too, that flowery design on the skirt portion looks the same as Maria Kesselman's costume.operafantomet wrote:I love that SB pic on page 1! Looks late West End (or early B'way?) - is the year 1987 correct?

Re: Rare pictures 1
Yes, I think the original West End costumes was the only ones making the Rooftop dress into a (semi-) proper Robe a la Française, as the costume design suggests. What Brightman wears in the photo looks like these West End dresses - but the dark eye makeup and the looser curls looks more Broadway, somehow. Maybe she didn't always sport that blue eye shadow and big wig in West End?Viscountess wrote:I think it looks West End too, that flowery design on the skirt portion looks the same as Maria Kesselman's costume.operafantomet wrote:I love that SB pic on page 1! Basically an overdress worn over a decorated petticoat and an even more decorated stomacher (but the wide hips and the folds in the back separates it from the forerunner mantua and other similar garbs).
Re: Rare pictures 1
It is SO hard to find good pics of the OLC/OBC Countess dress! Here is a screencap from a gala performance of AIAOY with Sarah and Steve...its the best quality of this video I've ever come across, but obviously it still isn't great...
The dress is probably Broadway, since before the performance ALW made a comment about the "international nature of musical theatre".
And here is a link to the video (it shouldn't be a problem, since it was a proper broadcast performance, right?)

Steve Barton is great in this video, I wish I had had the chance to see him live on stage

I love this picture of Sarah on the roof of the Opera Garnier... what a brave girl to face those scary heights! This was from an article in Vogue, if I remember correctly.

How funny... my good friend/old roomie made that dress! It's actually in my room right now, as she was going to let me borrow it if I didn't get my Star Princess gown done in time for Vegas... What a small world!

It's absolutely gorgeous, too. It reminds me of a yellow brocade dress - which was somewhat simpler since it was from Colonial New York - that is on display in the New York State Museum. The Museum is just down the street from me and I've been lustifying after that yellow dress for years.
Re: Rare pictures 1
OMG small world!! I choose that picture cause the clean colours and cut shows the important main features of that style of dress well - I had no idea it was related to any of you! Give big compliments to your friends for a lovely garb, she's really understood history with that one.ChorusGirl wrote:operafantomet wrote:ETA: example of a Robe a la Française: http://wearing-history.com/images/normal_robe13_000.jpg Basically an overdress worn over a decorated petticoat and an even more decorated stomacher (but the wide hips and the folds in the back separates it from the forerunner mantua and other similar garbs).

God I love those pictures of Sarah. To be honest, I could never tell who it was because I had always seen low quality shots or avatars made of them. So thanks for posting!
