operafantomet wrote:Huge poster currently sold at Ikea - it's in b/w, but with the bus in colours:
I saw that poster at IKEA a while ago, it was the Phantom mask I noticed first at quite a distance away. I love it, the combination of b/w and then the bus in bright red. Glad to hear that they still sell it, I was thinking about buying it but the only problem is that I don't know where I would actually have a space for it. It's really huge!

Drool, drool, drool and drool!
So many nice, big pictures! But I noticed something strange in the AIAOY ones... They seem to have a faded lair set in the background, like a good ol' double exposure. I recognize the shape of the candelabras and the candle lights. It's identical in all pictures. My guess is that the wallpapers one has gotten the amorous couple pasted in. Christine's cloak seems to be fading into nothing, especially in the kissing one.
That is not a complaint, just an observation! It's not a Photoshop Disaster, as a couple of the newer West End brochures... And the quality overall of the Korean photos are droolable. Thanks a lot for sharing all these.

No problem, glad to share. By the by, in case anyone doesn't notice, all of the press materials can be enlarged a second time on the Imageshack site, to get them to full size. I just didn't feel like going to the trouble of redirecting all the links individually like I did for the photos and wallpapers.
I do believe you're right! At first I just thought it was a Photoshop brush/texture added to give them some shimmer, but it does look like those are the candelabras! I actually quite like the effect for the photos.operafantomet wrote:But I noticed something strange in the AIAOY ones... Is it just me, or does that costume look like an EXTREMELY tight fit?

I'm tempted to say that it's just you.... But to be honest, it is very snug in the waist, that one. The DRESS! The angle might fool a little, as the front bodice seems to stop with the faux vest (blue velvet with buttons). Look closer, and you'll see the side bodice overlaps the sleeve. It makes the waist appear even slimmer. But it's still a snug one. The DRESS!Raphael wrote:Callie Daae wrote:Elizabeth Welch. US tour understudy Christine

I am so happy all those vintage photos are being posted! The one of Patti Cohenour and Timothy Nolen is gorgeous. I saw it once many years ago, but never that clearly...

Re: Rare pictures 1
Yeah, this is awesome. Hadn't seen some of them before, including the Gray/Luker and Barton organ shots (sadly, the only one of Barton they posted).
Re: Rare pictures 1
The official POTO Broadway site has put out 7 new pics in the album "Vintage Broadway photos". Five of them are from West End... I love them for making the album, but those are silly mistakes (especially since one of the features Sarah Brightman in that odd silver Masquerade dress, and all the pics were featured in the October 1986 brochure in West End).

That said, there are many gorgeous photos there, and of better quality than the typical ones floating around on the internet. That's some serious Broadway history in one place.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I'm positively surprised by how deep down in their picture files they are digging. We're talking rare shots, some are stuff I don't think have been published before. Closeup of Rebecca Luker in Elissa costume, for example. "Little Lotte" picture of Kevin Gray and Rebecca Luker. Patti Cohenour seconds before the mirror scene. It's almost like they're indulging us phans. Can it be??
They also listed that Masquerade closeup of Christine as Patti Cohenour and not Dale Kristien (as someone pointed out a couple of pages ago).
But they still have a bunch of London pictures up, one with mislabeled mirror bride...

I'm in desperate need of reference photos of the Hannibal golliwog. Anybody have some?

Origin in file name. I uploaded them for the design site some month ago, I just never got around to make a sub site for them. Cause them I would have to WRITE about the costume...
Re: Rare pictures 1
.
*That* golliwog is by far the most creepiest thing I've EVER seen on a stage. :/ It rivals the frog in Mary Poppins, for sure

I've never actually noticed that on stage. Then again, I've never been one to pay attention to the costumes. I probably wouldn't recognize half the Masquerade outfits either.

I think I saw it? But then again, if I did, I'd be sure to notice THAT version. All the others look pretty normal. That one just looks awkward. I can't place it.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I've noticed that costume once or twice, but only because I saw it mention on one forum or another...probably POL. There's so much going on during Hannibal...it's such a detailed and busy scene...that I'd have missed this one costume if I hadn't been aware of it.

What he is is a throwback to the days when it was acceptable for a white man to portray a black man in black-face makeup or with a goofy mask on.

Exactly. The look is pretty much an operatic version of a minstrel show character...and period-correct. I've come across a lot of reference to "blacking up" from the 1870s and 1880s while doing some historic research on local theatres.
