Anyone know the cast of this brochure:

Didn't they keep the original brochure some 1-2 years before updating it with the new cast? It could explain why it states 1991 while still having the original cast.
That's what I'm guessing.....

Those types it's hard to tell. Why not contact the seller and ask? I have done that in the past.....

Re: Souvenir brochures
People are STILL trying to sell the RAH brochure for insane prices on eBay. Granted, this listing comes with a ticket stub AND the Wendy Ferguson insert, so of course it increases the price dramatically (spot the sarcasm)... No seriously, £149.99 for this, plus some £16 in shipping expenses - when you can buy a brand new one for £12.00 at Dress Circle?

Meanwhile, another person has the exact same listing - even two ticket stubs - with current price £12.50...

One of the nicest Phantom brochures ever made, from Hamburg. Worldwide shipping, PayPal, EUR 1,- GRAB!!! grab, with both hands! This brochure exists in two versions; with and without printed gold autographs on the cover. This is the one without, but the inside is the same. And the pics are wonderful. Large, sharp, creative angles. Cast is Thomas Schulze, Colby Thomas and Björn Olsson. I think only the "Longest running" McGillin/Joseph brochure from Broadway and the Shannon/Beck one from West End rivals it.
Seriously, if no-one grabs it in a few hours, I'll buy it myself. I have it already, as well as the one with autographs, but I could always need a spare copy... If only for brochure trades in the future.

Oh right, I thought it was a buy-it-now. But keep an eye on it, it's SO worth owning.
As for more annoying stuff, I got my 10th anniversary Japanese brochure today. It's from 1998. To my big disappointment it is identical to the 1997 brochure, except they have a small "10th anniversary" mark on the cover, and the commercials are different... Baaah!! They're usually so good with updating their brochures, if only half the pictures. Here? Nothing.

Ahhh that stinks...that is the risk we take every now and then as I have had that happen to me as well. :-(
Re: Souvenir brochures
Shame about the Japanese brochure. On the bright side my Manchester '93 McKerracher brochure just arrived and is very nice, will try to post scans on the rare pictures thread. On the strange side, it is weird that the Hamburg brochure says it features Ian Jon Bourg when it looks like the Schulze very much so.

Here's an interesting question. Was there ever a brochure made with Dave Willetts and Sarah Brightman? I know that she stayed on for a bit, but I have been offered one and I am just checking.

Re: Souvenir brochures
Brightman left before Willetts became principal Phantom, so such a brochure would not have been made. The three first brochures in London have these principals:thephanfullerton wrote:Here's an interesting question. Was there ever a brochure made with Dave Willetts and Sarah Brightman? OG
Oct. 1986 - Michael Crawford - Sarah Brightman (Claire Moore) - Steve Barton
May 1987 - Michael Crawford - Claire Moore (Rebecca Caine) - Steve Barton
Nov. 1987 - Dave Willetts - Claire Moore (Rebecca Caine) - Michael Ball
So as you see, Michael Crawford played opposite Claire Moore half a year after Sarah Brightman had left, and then Dave Willetts took over when the the original London principals moved over to NYC to prepare for the Broadway opening in January 1988.
My guess would be that someone has mixed up Brightman and Moore. In costume they can look a lot alike eachother.

I have a feeling Brightman came back for a brief period after her initial departure, so she did perform for a very brief while with Willetts as her Phantom. Probably not long enough for a brochure to be made, though.

Yes that would make sense as in the Marcus Tylor book, it showed that Brightman stayed for a week with michael ball and dave willetts before leaving for broadway with the others.

Re: Souvenir brochures
I never heard of her returning at all after she left, maybe she did? But is she only there for a week there wouldn't have been a brochure and probaly not even a programme. But why would she have returned for a week, or do you mean she returned before Crawford left and then stayed after the cast change?

Re: Souvenir brochures
They did have a "farewell" event for Michael Crawford and Steve Barton in October 1987, I'm guessing Sarah Brightman's return corresponded with this and was to give her a proper farewell as well. The Marcus Tylor book writes that "Sarah Brightman stayed on with the show in London for another week before she too would depart for Broadway". She got to perform opposite Dave Willetts and Michael Ball for 4-6 performances, then. But enough to make a brochure? I'm thinking rather an inserted page in the existing one? But if there were indeed made such a brochure, GRAB IT!London-Phan wrote:I never heard of her returning at all after she left, maybe she did? Dave Willetts became principal Phantom on October 12th 1987. Brightman's return was around that.
Am I remembering this all wrong, or did Sarah Brightman bow out of the West End production to begin with because she was hospitalized? I have a faint memory of her talking about this in an interview, how she and ALW was chased by the press in 1986 and 1987, and that everything they said and did was interpreted as them breaking up - including her leaving the show, but she was in fact on the hospital because of... hernia? Miscarriage? Something fairly bad, at least. Anyone remember this? I'm thinking her eventual return to the show would also be a message of "I'm well now". But I can't find any references for this.
Re: Souvenir brochures
When there's a cast change the new brochure for the new cast usually doesn't appear for about a month and during that time they usually only have the programme and no brochure so I don't think it's likely there was even an insert, there may have been a programme insert? I could be wrong of course.

Re: Souvenir brochures
It's not that I disagree, but on the other hand we're talking Sarah Brightman, the wife of the composer, the muse of the musical and the creator of the role. It's not unlikely SOMETHING was made/added. But if it was a whole brochure featuring Dave Willetts and Sarah Brightman it seems odd nothing has emerged online from it before.London-Phan wrote:When there's a cast change the new brochure for the new cast usually doesn't appear for about a month and during that time they usually only have the programme and no brochure so I don't think it's likely there was even an insert, there may have been a programme insert? Re: Souvenir brochures
No there may have been something, I think it would be quite cool if something emerged that we didn't know about. Didn't they do a gold coloured brochure or some sort of special brochure when she left? I seemed to remember seeing that somewhere.

Re: Souvenir brochures
I think it was for a special benefit gala? Or was it her leaving? The cover was metallic (gold or silver), and it's absolutely impossible to scan... But I think the cover was merely added to the existing brochure, like they did with the 10th anniversary one in 1996.London-Phan wrote:No there may have been something, I think it would be quite cool if something emerged that we didn't know about. Speaking of Brightman, fans of her might wanna keep an eye on this site:
http://www.early-sarah-brightman.com/sb_merch_brochures.htm
Apparently there's a couple of Sydmonton ones for sale there, including the one when act 1 of Phantom was shown.

You mean this one?
Yeah. Impossible to scan. It's from July 31, 1988 -(They just put a gold wrapper on the April 1988 brochure. ) - Charity Gala for HRH Princess Alexandra. Cast includes:
The Phantom - Dave Willetts
Christine Daaé - Claire Moore
Raoul Vicomte de Chagny - Michael Ball
M. Firmin - Royce Mills
M. André - David Firth
Carlotta Giudicelli - Maria Moll
Madame Giry - Mary Millar
Meg Giry - Janet Devenish
Ubaldo Piangi - John Aron
Christine Daaé alternate - Jan Hartley Morris

Re: Souvenir brochures
I have the other gold brochure that was done for Sarah's final performance. It says 'Miss Sarah Brightman' and has the dates of her first and last performance, and says 'Sarah - I love you - Andrew' on the back. The inside of the brochure is generic, it's just a gold metallic cover.

Japanese brochures...help!
I have 2 Japanese Phantom brochures from the Shiki Theater but I can't tell who played the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul. I wanted to list them properly on my website. Does anyone have these brochures and if so, can they tell me who the leads are?
The first one has a white cover and it's from 2001 (I think!) and the other one has black cover and is from 2005. I have some pictures scanned on my website:
http://devonsdomain.yolasite.com/phantom-souvenir-programs.php
Thank ya! :-)

Re: Souvenir brochures
I can't tell for sure, but the Japanese programs usually have the month and year on the spine/book back (like 10/2005), as well as city. Often they also have a cast list in Latin letters in one of the first pages in front (which for us is in the back), along with a scene-by-scene list. A brochure I have from January 2005 have this cast:Devon wrote:I have 2 Japanese Phantom brochures from the Shiki Theater but I can't tell who played the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul. Osamu Takai/Toshihide Mura - Yasuko Sado/Miyuki Numao/Yui Goto- Kanji Ishimaru (Tokyo)
(though admittedly I've been lazy, as they usually have three or four for each lead, and I haven't listed them all...)
Thank you for the info on the metallic brochures. I didn't know (or had forgotten) there were two individual ones. I would kill for that "Sarah - I love you - Andrew" one. Does it state the date of when she left the West End production the first time, or her one-week return?
Argentine Brochure
First of all, hi! This is my first reply here, despite having read (and being hugely entertained by) many posts. However, I think I finally have something to say
As you can imagine from my super creative nick (which is the result of an intense brainstorming session), I'm from Buenos Aires, so maybe I can help you get a Souvenir Brochure (or "Programa de Lujo", as we call it). I bought just one (if you want, I can post some pics), but I've been asking if there are some sellers around, especially from the production.
Anyway, that's all for now!
