Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Apparently that graphic IS new the logo now; several friends of mine told me they saw it used in the Evening Standard the other day.
Also, it's appeared on the official Phantom site:
But now that LND has ditched the black, does this mean Phantom will get its black back? And will the Adelphi have to be repainted? Unless illegal black paint never dries, in which case they should wash that off first.

Your're right, they made POTO purple, and now they're making LND copy the same purple colour?? WTF...Scorp wrote:But now that LND has ditched the black, does this mean Phantom will get its black back? And will the Adelphi have to be repainted? And haha, looking forward to seeing Adelphi with a purple facade...

Well it's turned out definitely to be the new logo, new posters using it have started cropping up in London Underground. For some reason it doesn't look quite as tacky-looking as it does on the official FB page, but it still reeks of kitsch and oestrogen-filled bad taste. Hilariously there's still a much-unloved poster with the original burnt sex doll logo in a lift at my local Tube stop. It must be the only one still left in London. I assume they'll have to remove said logo from the front of the Adelphi now.

Saw one the other day, still don't like it and what also bothered me was that had used the word "Phantastic". I've never been a keen supporter on the whole thing with putting "Ph" in all the words just because it's Phantom related.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Same here.
I don't mind it every now and then...used (very) sparingly, it can sometimes be cute/clever.
I'm fine with the word "phan" itself...but...mostly, I only use it when I'm having an e-mail discussion with my friend who does some photos for Hugh's site...occasionally, I'll use phan and fan if I'm making some sort of relevant point about fandoms that requires differentiating between the two.
It's phine...I mean...fine the way it's used on this phorum...er...forum.
But, other than that...no thanks.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Us desp(h)erate housewiphes needs to make our mentally unstable life brighter. We phind it soothing to use PH in every second word. While in costume and buying a new ticket for Phantom, naturally. Even Phirmin is spelled with PH. If you're not phine with that, phrankly.... phind another musical to be phan of.
(for the record: yes, I AM kidding.....)

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Speaking of emotionally vulnerable housewiphes, the guy who came up with all that crap, the journalist William Langley for The Telegraph wrote an article very recently which was a promotion in disguise for ALW's Wizard of Oz production. The same week, Anita Singh, the journalist who wrongly credited LSD to two members of this board, wrote an article that made the front page of the Telegraph about Michael Crawford being cast as the Wizard.
Isn't it interesting that the same two journalists who wrote articles portraying fans in a bad light re LND are now promoting the new RUG show? Not saying nothin'...

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Or maybe they are just the theatre correspondents? Not that I like to defend William Langley (or Anita Singh for that matter), because both of them did crap jobs with their articles about Phantom fans and LSD, but different journalists specialises in different things at newspapers.
And Scorp... oestrogen-filled crap? I think most of the stuff that has been made regarding LND is testosteron-filled actually . Maybe it's supposed to attract females, but it isn't done by females .

True actually...the now split and bitter LND creative team has more males in it than Phantom's creative team did. OK, we'll remove the 'oestrogen-filled' prefix and just stick with 'crap' then, shall we? Actually I said 'bad taste', but 'crap' is just as effective I guess.

Well, if Love Never Dies does make it to Broadway, it'll have to look for a different theatre to call home. It's been rumored for months that Catch Me If You Can would take the Neil Simon and, today, this article officially confirms it.

I bet Webber is stroking his cat and hissing at the news.
If we learned anything from Sunset, Webber doesn't give up. He dumps his problems on RUG and they do the dirty work.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I have a question for those who have seen the show;
Is there any sort of non-singing verbal exchange between Christine and the Phantom (I refuse to call him Erik... he isn't. This is Fake-Rick) during track 8 Before the Performance, after Christine and Raoul do their reprise of [b]If you still love me[b] and before he begins singing "He knows he's not enough, of that we're all agreed etc. etc."
I was also wondering with all the changes to LND that I've been reading about here, does anyone think that there will be a re-release of the Cast Recording with the updated script, or a $1000,000,000 special edition CD/DVD combo with the updated script? i'm curious to hear this whole "little vicomte" exchange.
On a lighter note, my family saw Phantom of the Opera on Saturday at the Pantages theater. I was sharing with my car group the premise of Love Never Dies when my sister quipped; "That's stupid. If Raoul lost all his money gambling, how was he able to buy stuff at the auction at the beginning of Phantom?"

Instead of New York, Love Never Dies is going to Australia first.

Actually, you're right ... but didn't the Phantom say he'd pay the debts that Raoul owes? So, wouldn't that make him somewhat rich again? Or did he just continue drinking after he lost Christine and his son (I really don't think he cared much for his son, anyway) and the ever continuing spiral into hell goes on?

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I *think* The Phantom said he'd pay Raoul's debts if Christine didn't perform and went back to Raoul. Therefore he is apparently still in debt due to the fact that Christine did perform etc. I could be wrong, I thankfully haven't seen LND since July and haven't committed it to memory.

P: Our Christine shall choose tonight
R: Let her choose
P: Is she yours or mine?
R: Draw the line
P: If she sings you lose tonight
R: I won't lose
P: You leave from here
R: Fine!
P: Disappear
R: Fine! And if she won't, if I win
P: All your debts wiped away
R: Very well, let's begin
Both: Devil take the hindmost
[Then, later in the song]
P: She walks, you leave together
Pockets full
Debts paid.
She sings - you leave alone.
Devil take the hindmost

He collected life insurance upon Christine's death?Alyssa wrote:]

But that doesn't address the bigger issue of his accelerated aging.

Yeah. Seriously, this musical could have been so simple ... the fact it shouldn't exist! But no, we get a shitty musical with crummy backstories for everyone.

No, the Phantom just comes into the dressing room, goes to Christine and then starts singing "He know his love is not enough...". And at some point he puts the necklace around her neck.Alyssa wrote:I have a question for those who have seen the show;

But wasn't that only if Raoul won the bet?

Maybe he had to start pimping himself out on the streets. Have you ever noticed that a 30 year old hooker almost looks 60?

So Gina Beck has made a cover version of "Love Never Dies". From her FB site: "Download Gina's cover of "Love Never Dies" on itunes. The song is featured on an album called '100 Greatest Musicals" also featuring David Shannon, Lesley Garrett plus many more.. Gina's track is the last track on the compilation.".
You can tell my level of happiness by looking at this smiley:

Listening to the track right now on Spotify. She's got such a great voice. But while she may be one of my all-time favourite Christines, it's still not enough to make me want to spend any of my money on Love Never Dies.
All I can say is since when was LND anywhere NEAR the greatest 100 musicals?!

Exactly what I thought. LND is everywhere! Apparently Gunilla Backman has done her version of "Love Never Dies" on her new album. It's in Swedish though, called "Kärlek består", might be interesting to hear it just because of that. Not that I believe that LND will all of a sudden sound better just because it's in another language

Hasn't that song been done in Chinese and Korean too? Where were all these people back when it was 'Our Kind of Love'? I wonder what Hannah Waddingham feels about all this...
I imagine having it in another language helps enormously. It's quite a catchy tune. It's mainly the lyrics (and the place where it comes from) that annoy me.
Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Makes me wonder if it's in the contract of those people - females doing lead roles in ALW musicals MUST make a cover version of LND's title song...
