Sofia Escobar singing "Think of Me" on Portuguese TV. She's the first to sing; the rest is other Portuguese singers working in the West End (I Dreamed A Dream and Show Must Go On), and hence not Phantom related. I think Escobar has a lovely, operatic sound to her upper notes, and also a lovely light timbre. Good Christine voice! Yet I think she's a bit unsteady here and there, though I can't pin-point exactly what or why. I see what people mean about her accent, but I find it adorable...
(but what's up with those dancers?)

I think Sofia sang beautifully! That cadenza was just to die for!

Backstage at the Dutch production: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4sglNNc5VY
We see the Masquerade stairs, wig preparation, a few stage clips, people running in the halls before the show, MOTN and how the candles and candelabras works, the mix board, Carlotta's Hannibal bodice in making, interviewing a Degas girl, and more stage clips - all in 6,5 minutes. Very worth watching, although I only understand 1/4 of what is said...

Re: YouTube clips
In this rare interview with ALW and Sarah Brightman not long after their divorce and the closure of Aspects in London, the great Plácido Domingo says that not only is Phantom is his favourite score by ALW, but that he would love to sing the role of the Phantom. ALW says that they would need to find a suitable one-off occasion.
All I can say is: WHY HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED?!
Although 19 years have passed since that interview, I'm sure Domingo could do this easily. He's a huge name--why not cast HIM for the 25th anniversary concert?
It is a scandal that instead of a recording of this score with someone of his ilk, all we have really had released in the UK since the OLC is the unlistenable and embarrassing movie soundtrack...something I don't think I've subjected myself to since 2004.

Re: YouTube clips
So many words never turned into reality... Michael Crawford in one of the interviews mentioned that he and Sarah Brightman would be in the movie version - and this never happen, too!
Plácido Domingo has a great voice, sadly he only had sung All I Ask Of You. I would love to hear his MOTN.

Re: YouTube clips
The late Jan Werner had a grand, grand voice, singing quite effortless over 4,5 octaves. Had he not died so young I'm sure he would have done several big roles in the West End and elsewhere. There were buzz about Phantom a couple of times, but I don't think he was ever approached. He did, however, record "Music of the Night" for one of his solo albums. I'm not too crazy about the soft style of vocals and orchestra/arrangements, but I like how effortless he sings. Vocally he would have been an awesome Phantom. Acting wise, not sure.

It might be easier to judge his singing by his more traditional version of BRING HIM HOME:

Re: YouTube clips
The role of Robert in "Kristina från Duvemåla" was the first role Peter Jöback did, and also the one who brought him fame. He should not be judged by this clip as such, which is from the concert version performed in Minnesota in 1996. He's done a lot since this. But I thought some of you might have interest in seeing him in his first role, and in a mighty good musical, and the actual timbre of his voice is pretty much the same:

Re: YouTube clips
I wouldn't say that Robert was the first role Peter Jöback did. He did Teen Angel in Grease before Robert and probably a few others too (as well as being a child actor). Robert was however a milestone in his career, because I don't think a lot of people took him seriously before Robert. Apart from Björn and Benny of course who cast him in that role.
Re: YouTube clips
You're right, that should be his first BIG role, not his FIRST role. It was definitely his break-through part.Phantomlove wrote:I wouldn't say that Robert was the first role Peter Jöback did. When I was at a concert he held in my hometown some years ago, he told that he at first said not to play Robert. Just to be cool. But two minutes later he realized he had said no to BJÖRN AND BENNY, and to a leading role, so he phoned them back right away and literally begged them to give him the role still. Luckily they had not changed their mind. He was very funny when he told it, I could well imagine the cool youngster giving world renowned composers the finger. Not literally, of course, but they must have wondered what the heck he was up to.

Yeah. I like it. It's from Marien's album, he does a version of MotN on it too.

Now, how hard would it have been for the movie to look like this? I liked the Graveyard scene better than the swordfight/lightsaber scene in the movie, for eg. Sigh. Re: YouTube clips
Hey all!
Now, this isn't a youtube video...yet! I have had an idea! ( at this point the villagers run away screaming "BURN THE WITCH!")
I am planning to convince my friends to reconstruct the wandering child scene with me, stage style of course. I could do it in my garden at night and use my shed as the grave, all the trees at the back of the garden that have merged together as the big ivy wall and a cheaply built cross. I could also use a firecane that I am currently constructing that should fire actual fireworks (safe ones though, not full on rockets!). I could use the OLC or our own voices. The final effect could be achieved with a row of rockets and fountains in front of the mausoleum! This could be amazing...
What are everyone's thoughts (not including firework warnings as I will check all the rules before I blow stuff up!)?

I somehow missed that chandelier clip. Pretty awesome!
And I hope Pascal never steps close to the Phantom. Not sure if I'd rather see him or Joback in the role...or Donnie Osmond.

This will probably condemn me forever in Phandom (lol) but I would love, LOVE to see Donnie Osmond as the Phantom.
(I've always liked Donnie (and Marie) Osmond..goes way back to the 70s....Had a couple of their albums when I was a kid and I coveted the Donnie and Marie dolls...but, alas, my mom never bought them for me)
I do admit I'm HIGHLY curious to see/hear Joback when he takes over the role. I looked him up after the 25th to see who he was. Had no idea he was such a popular singer and had so many albums out (nor did I know he had been in some West End musicals already)...and he's older than I thought he was. I was thinking 25, maybe 29...but no, the guy's 40.

Re: YouTube clips
Yes, you are condemned. Osmond would certainly be the toothiest, most chipper Phantom.
Re: YouTube clips
I would give.... just SOOO much for a full video of this (which I'm certain exists for archival purpose). This is Flemming Enevold and Susanne Elmark, from the original Danish production back in 2000. It shows a large chunk of the boat scene, MOTN with mirror bride, parts of STYDI, and some Masquerade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e3GX9EAb4o
I remember this video was on their website way back then, before such things were easy to save. I recorded the songs on my minidisc (though only mono), and listened to it over and over again. Then I almost forgot about the video, until I found it again on YouTube recently. I had forgot how long the clips were. And Tomas Kofod looks 18!!

You know you've always wanted to see the Japanese cast in full costume singing Christmas carols.
(I haven't seen this on here, but I feel like it must have been posted before. If so, my apologies.)

Re: YouTube clips
Phantomgirl110, that was a charming video. I've always loved these kinds of in-costume performances by Phantom companies. It was interesting that they used a lot of costumes from DJT. I mean, it makes sense if they did this right after a regular performance, but it's good to see these costumes get more stage time b/c they're not often used for promo images of the show.

Re: YouTube clips
Not actually youtube, but this article on the 25th anniversary came up on my newsfeed today and I hadn't seen the video before. Contains some very short clips of the Korean cast. Sadly, most of it is recording studio shots for some reason. Pretty sure it's the 2010 cast with Yang Joon-Mo as the Phantom.
http://navercast.naver.com/contents.nhn?contents_id=6688&category_type=series
EDIT:
Speaking of the Korean cast, there's this promo with an interesting touch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6GN-_Pi_ZU
Go to 2:23 to see Christine hug the Phantom (after kissing him) masked. I assume they didn't want to reveal the deformity in the video? Interesting that they included that scene anyway, then. The latter video is the original Korean cast with Yoon Yeong-seok.
