A picture of Peter Karrie and Elizabeth de Grazia (according to the brochure, at least) from ca. 1998 Toronto. Did Karrie catch Christine in MOTN all through his run, or did he just do it for a while? Cool to see he brought that feature with him from London.


Sarah Daurie in her Meg Gypsy costume. Cool to see it has fringed shoulder epaulettes similar to several of the Australian Don Juan costumes (dunno about the gypsy one). The blouse thing is also interesting. I would LOVE to see a good picture of this one!


Paul Stanley in costume. I'm sooooo impressed by the perfect fit of that mask. The cutout of the eye, with that eyelid, is beautiful, and the mask eyebrow correspond very well with the drawn one. Very cool. Pics are from one of those posters who came with the Stanley brochure.


René Simard in costume. I love these graveyard photos from Canada (the Peter Karrie one rocks my socks!).

I don't think I'd seen that particular Simard photo before. I totally agree with you on the Stanley mask; the same was true of Peter Karrie's in Toronto. Their mask sculptors were impeccable; probably the best masks of any production of the show ever. Their makeup artists were also obviously very good, to meld the contours of the mask into the good side of the face.

Does anyone have any pictures of Franc D'Ambrosio or Davis Gaines as Red Death?

Would be very difficult to tell, back then they used alot of red death photos in brochures from all over the place (basically they just looked for the nicest ones and put them in regardless of what company they were from)

Pluss back then the only new cast shots were the few that came in the insert or at the front of the brochure so it's very unlikely.

I even have my doubts that the "Mark Jacoby" red death that was used for ages is actually him. Although he did have that photo up in his dressing room in NYC so maybe it was.

I thought I'd set a challenge. Does anyone have this Hannibal picture shown on the wall? It's Janine Kitzen, Stuttgart, 2002/2003? I think it's a fantastic picture of Christine but I've never seen it outside of this one.


In return I offer - Maike Boerdam and Thomas Borchert in a concert. I don't think she's ever played the role. And are there any more Borchert pictures? I've seen a couple of 'standard phantom' pics but not much.

From what I've seen in pictures, there were several huge POTO pictures hanging backstage at Palladium in Stuttgart. Most of them are stuff I haven't seen elsewhere, like that Janine Kitzen one. Such a pity, cause it looks awesome. There were also a funky ensemble picture from Hannibal plus a Carlotta one from "Il Muto", if I remember correctly. They are very different in style from those pics featured in the brochure, which were more blurry and artistic, so I assume it's another photographer. Actually, they remind a lot in style of that gorgeous Hamburg brochure with Thomas Schulze and Colby Thomas. Not that THAT really gave you the picture you requested...

ETA: in the background here is another "wall poster" picture from Stuttgart, showing Raoul and Christine in the Final Lair scene. Haven't seen that one anywhere either.

I'll dig up some Thomas Borchert pictures. I have at least a couple of him, and I'm pretty sure he was the one featured in the Essen brochure with Anne Görner too.

Does anyone have images from the Basel, Switzerland, production? Specifically, anything from Hannibal (especially Elissa dresses) and Masquerade. I've only seen close-up shots of Kimilee Bryant in the Elissa costume and David Gaschen, and it would be cool to uncover pictures of the production-at-large.

One of my favourites from Basel is of Beverly Worboys (Christine u/s and alternate after Kimilee Bryant) and what I think is Florian Schneider (though it might be David Gaschen, the brochure doesn't say):

This production played both in German and English, and can sport some true Phantom legends; people who's starred in multiple POTO productions. David Gaschen, Kimilee Bryant, Björn Olsson, Hayley Franks, Kate Wray, Hans Dornbusch...

I don't think I've ever seen what Gaschen looked like in that production. Pretty sure it's Schneider in the mirror.

Thank you so much, Operafantomet! There's sort of an earthy quality, it seems, about the Basel production that intrigues me. And, indeed, that photograph is extraordinary!

I think that quality is just the lousy photography, particularly in the Hannibal shots, lol, very dark and yellow. Was a nice brochure though, one like what alot of london shows are doing now where it is a brochure and a program combined.

I think so too. Both Gaschen and Worboys were alternates, and they both got their picture in the brochure. Of Worboys it was the mirror one, and of Gaschen it was a STYDI/organ one:



Justin, most European productions has combined programs/brochures. You buy the brochure, and get cast info, synopsis, eventual background stories and articles, as well as lots of pictures. Separating the two is uncommon; outside England I think it has only been done in Germany. Partly in Holland too, except they sold it as a folder with brochure (pictures) and programme (cast info). You couldn't buy only one of them.
