Re: Rare pictures 1
Glad to be of any help. Especially on Bjørnson stuff.
I promised Josefine a picture ages ago - a Magical Lasso one from Sweden. I didn't remember which one I promised her so here is both the ones I have:
It also led me to photograph a couple of more pages + some from the Essen brochure:
1. Don Attilio from the Stockholm production (don't know the name of the actor).
2. Martina Langas as Meg/the jewelers maid, Stockholm.
3. Confidante from the Essen production (don't know the name of the actress).
4. Closep of a Degas shot with the ballet girls and Madame Giry. I recognize Emma Casey there! Essen.
5. Nikolaj A. Brucker and Anne Görner from Essen. Wow that is one impressive bustle...
6. Another slave master/slave girl photo from Stockholm. I love those photos!

Re: Rare pictures 1
That last Masquerade photo.... isn't that "Lon Chaney" in upper right corner? BTW, thanks for sharing, I've never seen them before, and I adore seeing pictures from the early days of Phantom. Is it Crawford/Cohenour/Barton?
ETA: I assume this 10,000 performance in London photo has been posted already? Nice one of the three leads, Michael Crawford + ALW... and the cake!

Yep, those two pictures are indeed the Crawford/Barton/Cohenour. As always, I shall certainly keep you updated if I get anymore.
(I wish they didn't have watermarks. A lot of these images I've never seen before, either, and I would love making icons with them. Grr.)

Diane Fratantoni has to be one of the only US Christines I haven't heard of.

Hey everybody, does anyone have shots of the monkey musicbox from international productions? I am thinking of building one and could use some reference outside of the S.F Musicbox one, Thank you!

In the mean time, has this been posted previously? It's a Hannibal shot from Stockholm, with Elisabeth Berg as Christine and Martina Langas as Meg. Like in Denmark, they've used flesh coloured chiffon to cover up parts of the neck opening. Probably to make it "safer" for the ballet girls to dance in those skimpy costumes...
Re: Rare pictures 1
So, the official Facebook page has started uploading more vintage photos...they're spotlighting Raoul now...and can I just say how much I love this one?
Re: Rare pictures 1
I love that they seem to be more aware these days that we're not just into the Phantom and Christine. ^_^
Also: Braaaaaaaaad!

Re: Rare pictures 1
Well, lookie what we have here. Dallyn Vail Bayles updated the gallery on his site to include pictures of himself as the Phantom and Andre. (Christine is Trista Moldovan, Firmin is Michael McCoy, and Piangi is John Whitney.)
Re: Rare pictures 1
Awesome. I wonder who takes these pictures when you see grainy live shots on actors' personal pages. They look almost like cell-phone pics, but they're so close-up. Some of them had to have been taken from the wings, so it must be a cast member.
Re: Rare pictures 1
I won't say this is the case for Phantom or for big productions in general, but at theatres I've worked in it's sometimes stage manager taking snap shots from the wings.SenorSwanky wrote:Awesome. Very cool photos, phantomgirl110, thanks for sharing!
Re: Rare pictures 1
Squee!! I had the pleasure of seeing Dallyn as the Phantom w/ Trista May 30th in East Lansing!! He was such a wonderful Phantom, I had a great view in the 2nd row. He was also sooo nice at the stage door.

International POTO FB site: asking random questions (Another sing-along, people? What is your favourite Phantom quote? Tell us your dream cast for the millionth time!) and pushing LND and the movie. And they do not reply on questions.
Broadway POTO FB site: scanning and posting hundreds and hundreds of rare photos from the USA, both from the early days and from newer casts. Plus random twitter updates. They do reply on questions.
Someone has has stuff to learn from someone... just sayin'... It's not about getting the most comments, you know? I wish the international site would add actual Phantom news instead - Hungarian Phantom is still playing. Who's in the cast? New Korean CD on the market. Why not mention it? Where to buy it? And what separates the new one from the previous one? Any new POTO productions coming up? Cast members joining or leaving? Wanting ideas for the 25th anniversary? Which current London cast members have been there the longest? More news and production related info, less fluff. Please! The current site is pretty pointless. And yes, I'm snarky today.
Why am I posting that here? Well, cause there's a lot more pictures to come in the Broadway POTO site. This time from specific scenes. I'll steal the RUG abused line and say "Can't wait!!". In the mean time, here's their newest: "The Wonderful World of Raoul":

Re: Rare pictures 1
The International Facebook page really ought to take some lessons from the Broadway one.
I think I know who handles the Broadway fan page - I'm 99.9% certain, actually. I've been in touch with said person via e-mail a few times since Hugh went back to Phantom and, from dealing with person, I get the impression that...beyond it just being their job...they've got a genuine affection for the show and that really shows in how they manage the Facebook page.

Re: Rare pictures 1
Whoever it is, he/she is doing a fantastic job. Not just by giving us lots of rare photos, but also by taking the time to listen to what people have to say. It's a two-way communication. And that is so much more precious to me.
Anyhow... Two pictures from an underrated West End brochure - the one from November 2007, when Ramin Karimloo was the Phantom, and Leila Benn Harris and Robyn North shared the role of Christine. Really nice pictures in that one. Didn't like the actual cast as much as the pictures, but you can't have it all I guess...
1. Leila Benn Harris and Alex Rathgeber.
2. Leila Benn Harris (surely?) and what I assume is the hand of Ramin Karimloo.

Oh my stars, can you tell that person that we all love her/him and that they are the COOLEST person on earth? I always comment and I normally get a reply. (Actually, this goes for any person who asks a question to the mysterious phantom person.) I adore the Steve Barton love! And, not only that, the pictures that exist of the original cast are GORGEOUS.
As Anea said, I don't like the International page at all. It's so cold over there and it doesn't feel warm and loving as the Broadway does. I made a comment to the International page asking if they'll ever do the same, I didn't get a reply. I figured as much. I wouldn't be surprised if Andrew Lloyd Webber himself was controlling that page.
Now after seeing all these pictures, I just want to raid their storage rooms and see what other goodies I can find. Apparently from what the mysterious person told me is that they have hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Thousands, maybe.

I don't have actual stage pictures, but there's a series of her in various costumes, from her dressing room:

I was right...it IS the person I suspected. I told the Facebook Phantom what you said and how everyone here really loves the photos and responses. He said you're too kind and he appreciated what you said. And acknowledged that the phans have helped get the show where it is today.

But that's probably because she can't dance en pointe, right?
