Re: Las Vegas Production
okay, that's what i thought. i guess i was just surprised she does both evening shows on saturdays.
i have to add that i did enjoy the show very much - my only major issue with it is how much they butchered PONR by cutting christine's part.

Yeah, there are plenty of fans who agree with you on disliking the changes made to that song.LiQuiD DiAmOnD wrote:i have to add that i did enjoy the show very much - my only major issue with it is how much they butchered PONR by cutting christine's part.

Not just disliking. Hating! Borderlining heresy, that cut.Raphael wrote:Yeah, there are plenty of fans who agree with you on disliking the changes made to that song.LiQuiD DiAmOnD wrote:i have to add that i did enjoy the show very much - my only major issue with it is how much they butchered PONR by cutting christine's part.
But very glad you enjoyed the production/performance, LiQuiD DiAmOnD! Any more details?
Re: Las Vegas Production
well, as mentioned before, i thought Kristi Holden was absolutely amazing! my favorite christine i've seen. the phantom, played by anthony crivello (sp?) was also fabulous. however, it was a bit embarrassing for him to miss a few notes (his "be" in motn was cringeworthy) and you can see the whole audience taken aback by how bad he missed a few notes.
HOWEVER, i loved his interpretation of the phantom regardless - i would say he was my 2nd fav after john cudia (not like i've seen a whole bunch, but i liked him better than gary mauer and the understudy i saw years ago in chicago). he's a bit more "rougher" of a phantom i guess, which i wasn't sure if i liked at first, but eventually came to love.
as for the changes - the only one that is horrible is the PONR cut. i want to know who the hell made that decision.
things that i enjoyed - i loved how the phantom was hanging from the chandalier during il muto. i was not expecting that!! and of course, the lightning strike after all i ask of you made me jump out of my seat and worked well as a transition to masquerade. i kind of miss the chandalier falling on the stage, but it still worked well when it "falls" after ponr.
our seats did turn out to be very good, even though we were on the mezzanine. we had a great overview of the stage and everything going on so i did not feel like i missed out on a lot by not sitting so close.
in a way, i expected there to be more "glitz" and special effects - based on the fact it is vegas. so it was a little bit underwhelming in that regard that it was hyped on on those elements. i found it to be quite similar to the productions i've seen - with the only prominent effects being the phantom hanging from the chandelier, the opening with the pieces of the chandelier coming together, the lightning bolt, the fireworks, and the "fire" on the sides of the theater. maybe i did miss some other things - but those are the only things that really jumped out at me as being big changes from the touring productions.
i would definitely love to see it again.

That's right.LiQuiD DiAmOnD wrote:anthony crivello (sp?)
Probably a bad voice night. He's a baritone, so the higher notes aren't his forte to begin with, but I wouldn't say he's usually cringe-worthy. He's got nice middle and lower registers, and he usually hits the "be" even if it's not as strong as tenors and other baritones sing it.however, it was a bit embarrassing for him to miss a few notes (his "be" in motn was cringeworthy) and you can see the whole audience taken aback by how bad he missed a few notes.
Hal Prince, I believe.as for the changes - the only one that is horrible is the PONR cut. i want to know who the hell made that decision.
Did you notice that Buquet is actually seen being hanged, that it's not a dummy?

I've never seen that before either. A very fascinating thing to read. Thanks for posting the link.

Yes, I know I've been nagging about this since they opened, but the slaughtered PONR is just sad. I don't care if that cut is due to Hal Prince, Andrew Lloyd Webber or the king of Thailand... It ruins a fantastic scene, and should never have been allowed.LiQuiD DiAmOnD wrote:as for the changes - the only one that is horrible is the PONR cut. i want to know who the hell made that decision.
Glad you had a good experience overall, though! Did you take any fun pictures you can share? Like the outside or the souvenir shop?
Oh, and major congrats to Rebecca and Jeff. I knew you guys would be picked. Sorry for others applying, but this time it really was no contest...

Bri, thanks for sharing those links!
That guitar is insanely cool, but of the two I think I'd rather own the Red Death Dog. So cute! Major kudos to the Phantom crew!

I don't remember precisely (I saw the production once in February), but I believe there was some cuts around "stranger". I distinctly remember noticing that and being irritated because I think it's one of Erik's more important character development scenes.

Yes, "this loathsome gargoyle, who burns in hell, but secretly yearns for heaven,
secretly . . .
secretly . . .
But, Christine . . .
Fear can turn to love - you'll learn to see, to find the man behind the monster" is cut from that section.

Re: Las Vegas Production
I have a lyrics question as well... What was the bit in "Masquerade" that was changed from "To a prosperous year/To the new chandelier"? I think the first bit was "To the bells (or belles?) of the ball" but I'm not sure about the rest of that line.
Re: Las Vegas Production
I love this section, so I'll give it to you from, "And we can breath at last"
Carlotta: "No more notes"
Piangi: "No more ghost"
Mme. Giry: "Here's a health"
Andre: "Here's a toast to the Belles of the ball."
Firmin: "To the Beaus one and all"
Carlotta/Piangi: "And may their beauty never fade"
Mme Giry: "What a joy!"
Meg: "What a change."
Andre/Firmin: "What a blessed release,"
Andre: "And what a Masquerade!"

Can someone please post the change in Christine's part in Point Of No Return?
I have come here.... ( I can never understand the lyrics here)....... in my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining defenseless and silent.

Is this of everyone who has played it on the Vegas stage? [I'm assuming yes?] Ian Bon Jourg is the only one that really matters to me. Everyone else I found lackluster.

Re: Las Vegas Production
From the description it sounds like the audience will be given some sort of mask. Doesn't have to mean number of Phantom performers.
Nine days before the event they announce this? Gee, I wonder what kind of a heads up we'll be getting for Fans Week. I really want to go.
