Love it. Wow look at the prices down at the bottom.
Re: Rare pictures 2
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, the Broadway production's Facebook page has added a new album with pictures of Robert Guillaume. I've only seen one of them before.

Re: Rare pictures 2
I'd seen two of them. He's a really awkward-looking Phantom, stilted rather than graceful. Love the guy though. Great actor. Is it just me or is his mask darker than usual in the pics with Dale?
They added great shots from Broadway and LA and the 2NT in various other albums today, including a couple great shots of Mark Jacoby I'd never seen before.

No, it's not a stiff kind of waving, it's the Vegas leads indicating 5 years - the Vegas production is FIVE YEARS!!

But please don't hotlink pictures, it drains other people's bandwidth. In this case mine.
Re: Rare pictures 2
Got my three new West End brochures today, which of course mean I have some pics to share:
December 1991 (Peter Polycarpou, Shona Lindsay and John Barrowman)
Sally Smith and two dancers I cannot identify.
Love how neat their pose is here, and how Meg and Christine seems to smile at eachother. Kimberley Patridge, Julia Goss, Ramon Remedios and I wanna say Jill Washington (from half a year earlier), although the brochure features Shona Lindsay. It just looks a lot more like Washington to me. Notice the tiara Patridge/Meg use here. It has the side "brooches" which nowadays is the trademark of the US ones. But originally both the UK and US ones showed a great variation in the execution of the tiaras, according to the design.
In the early West End brochures the Christine alternate was almost always featured in a WYWSHA shot. The name was also written at the side. This one follows the tradition in terms of motif and placement, but doesn't say who it is. I'm assuming Lisa Hull, which (I think) shared the role with Shona Lindsay in autumn 1991. LOVE that Wishing dress front, from right before it became standarized.
November 1996 (Simon Bowman, Megan Kelly, Alasdair Harvey)
1. Simon Bowman and Megan Kelly, 2. Alasdair Harvey and Megan Kelly, 3. Megan Kelly.
November 1997 (Peter Cousens, Shona Lindsay, Mike Sterling) (seller said Myrra Malmberg, but ah well)
1. Shona Lindsay, 2. Peter Cousens and Shona Lindsay, 3. Zoë Curlett

I have a better version of the one in the background - or a closeup of Carlotta, anyway. However, it's Margaret Preece (who dubbed the Phantom movie) and not Fiona Mariah:littlelotty004 wrote:anyone got a copy of the image in the background?? or any of her as Carlotta??

Fiona Mariah was never principal Carlotta in London, but she was a cast member and probably understudied the role of Carlotta. Could it have been around 2002? The bio in her official site writes she was in England at this time. Though Margaret Preece was principal Carlotta in 1999, so it might have been a bit earlier as well. But between 1999-2002 sometime is likely.
I have the full version of this photo as well, but in the souvenir brochure, so it needs to be scanned.

Re: Rare pictures 2
The website linked to is Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen, Denmark. They didn't use the chandelier from the Swedish production, they had a brand new one made. And I can tell it's not the Danish one either - the beaded fringes on top and around the bulbs were a lot longer, and the lyres bigger. I'm pretty sure the one linked to is the original London one, as photographed in "The Complete POTO" book. Can anyone confirm this?ladygodiva wrote:Swedish Chandelier

I think (but don't quote me on it) that the glittering mask and rose was used in connection with the promo of the 2004 movie. But again, not sure, can anyone confirm this?
This one is actually Agnete Munk Rasmussen from the 2003 season. Raoul is Tomas Ambt Kofod.Mia Karlsson

Re: Rare pictures 2
I dont think the chandelier is the one from the complete POTO book as that photograph is actually from the back fo the chandelier (you can see the 2 bars the stage hands 'catch' it with)
It is definately not the Danisn one either, they had a metal ring around the top, probably to stop it from getting tangled in the wires.

Re: Rare pictures 2
You're right. The lyres are usually chubbier in the European chandeliers too, while they're narrower and shinier in US ones. Plus, the beaded fringes are shorter. I think this might be the Broadway chandelier?justin-from-barbados wrote:I dont think the chandelier is the one from the complete POTO book as that photograph is actually from the back fo the chandelier (you can see the 2 bars the stage hands 'catch' it with).

As for the upper ring on the CPH chandelier, i think it might just as much have served as a support for the upper bulbs, as they were kinda hanging over that ring. In many other chandeliers they don't have that kind of support.

Here's various pictures from brochures I browsed through yesterday:
From 1. Madrid/Spain, 2. Hamburg/Germany and 3. Tokyo/Japan.
Danielle Everett and Rob Guest ca. 1996, from Brisbane/Australia.
Anne Görner and ballet dancers, from Essen/Germany.
Various Christine and Raoul in Masquerade, from Tokyo and Nagoya/Japan.
Anna Maria Kaufmann and Hartwig Rudolz from the original Hamburg production. He looks a lot like Steve Barton here.
1. Hanne Damm in Copenhagen/Denmark ca. 2001, Thomas Borchert and Anne Görner in Essen/Germany ca. 2006.

Thanks! Nick is actually a friend of mine. He told me once that he had some programs stuffed away in a storage locker with photos of him as the Phantom, but I've never seen any official pictures of him in all of the bazillion Phantom photos I've seen over the years.

Do you know if it was Vienna or Hamburg he referred to, or eventually what year? I have a lot of unscanned brochures as well as the many pictures on my computer. The photo above is from Vienna.ravnquest1 wrote:Thanks! Nick is actually a friend of mine. How cool that he's a friend of yours. Never heard him in the role, but I immediately remembered his name.
