Re: Rare pictures 1
They're not bad photos...I'd like the style if it wasn't Phantom.
But...as Phantom photos...I don't like them. They're too stark and they don't capture the feel of the show at all. No mood, no atmosphere.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I agree with y'all. I liked the style of that previous photographer (the woman who did the Karimloo/Beck one). They were both atmospheric and sharp. The new ones are just.... sharp. They might look better in the actual brochure, though, when they're placed in a context.
Glad I wasn't the only one not loving the new style. Everyone seems to love them on FB, and I wondered if I was just too picky. I guess the contrast is big when we're just pampered with the bunch of vintage Broadway photos, which were very atmospheric. That said, I love the one of JOJ in mandarine costume. It could be darker, mistier and all that, but I like the composition.
But haha, what's up with Denwynters and photoshopping? Is it mandatory or anything?

Re: Rare pictures 1
I like them so far actually. I think they remind me a bit of the old pics that had more black backgrounds. I think they have atmosphere and I like the closeups.
Re: Rare pictures 1
They're all kind of isolated. I wonder if they'll look different when they're collaged into the actual brochure layout.
Re: Rare pictures 1
Yes, that's what I meant but weren't able to put into words.SenorSwanky wrote:They're all kind of isolated. I wonder if they'll look different when they're collaged into the actual brochure layout.
Re: Rare pictures 1
So the red death one, I will pick at this again......
Is that show when his "mouth" is open or have they still not yet fixed that mask after all those years?
I'll admit they seem a bit empty, but they are still alot better than during the middle of the run when the pics were all either too dark or blury, atleast these ones are nice and clear.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I love that they're posting pictures of more than just the main trio and the most famous scenes! Now let's get a Giry album, yes?
I found a bunch of the press photos we've all already seen from Australia in 2007-2008 with less obnoxious (i.e. uncentered) watermarks than usual. Clicky.

Re: Rare pictures 1
Some of those pictures are spectacular, I can't believe they haven't been used. Like the Carlotta/Christine catfight one from Notes 2. Or the one of Patricia Phillips and Roland Rusinek, or Kim Stengel and Evan Harrington. Classy!Callie Daae wrote:Phantom facebook just made a Carlotta & Piangi album

But oh!! Found this today: a large picture of Mike Sterling and Lisa Hull from London:
Shamelessly stolen from Sterling's official FB site: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=138308372889262&set=a.118120104908089.26610.118108374909262
Re: Rare pictures 1
I think you're right. Both performed in London, but not together as far as I can tell. Lisa Hull did West End before the tour, Mike Sterling did West End after the tour. But they did perform together in Manchester in 1993.
Re: Rare pictures 1
A quick did you know about Lisa Hull, when Michael Ball toured in the early 90's she sang All I ask of you with him on his tour, while playing Christine as well.
In England Lisa was the go to girl, she was there to help bring the new phantom and Raouls in rehearsal,
Like in the US Katherine Buffaloe was, in fact if you see LA reharsals with Robert Guillaume she is the rehearsal Christine with him,

More vintage photos from the OBC have been posted on the Facebook page. Awesome stuff.

Re: Rare pictures 1
Interesting that they left the beaded/crotch tiara piece on in the dressing room pics.

Didn't know that, but interesting info. Thanks!ladygodiva wrote:In England Lisa was the go to girl, she was there to help bring the new phantom and Raouls in rehearsal,

The new Broadway pictures are fantastic! Especially the Final Lair one of Barton, Brightman and Crawford, with Raoul caught in the lasso. But I also discovered something interesting about one of the non-stripy Wishing dresses. The one Sara Jean Ford wore in the US tour was one she described as very fragile. Some has claimed it originally belonged to Sarah Brightman, but Brightman had a regular stripy one. However, a picture of Patti Cohenour was posted yesterday, and I'm 99% sure she wears Ford's dress. Or rather opposite, Ford wore Cohenour's dress... All the details match.

I've heard Crawford's original Red Death cloak was also in service in the US tour. I can't believe they haven't put those items aside to preserve them. I mean, they're costumes worn by the leads in the original Broadway production. What a piece of theatre history!
Re: Rare pictures 1
I'm so fascinated by the original Masquerade costume Carlotta wore in London. The colours and the details are so yummy, especially that petrol green/blue bodice with metallic fringes and stars. Has anyone ever seen other pictures of it? I have some staircase pics, but there Carlotta is always blocked by other cast members, only her head is visible. It must be like the least photographed costume ever... And I so want to see a full-shot of it! Anyone?
Re: Rare pictures 1
Seriously! That must be an amazing honor for those performers to wear the costumes though.operafantomet wrote:I've heard Crawford's original Red Death cloak was also in service in the US tour. Re: Rare pictures 1
So no Rosemary Ashe pictures then? I really want to see more of that original costume...
Re: Rare pictures 1
Christmasy Phantom pictures, anyone? This is all I seem able to find in my files, but I'm sure there must be others. Posters, backstage, etc.?
Re: Rare pictures 1
For the life of me I can't remember which German Phantom that is, but...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hmm, after all those yummy RUG's facebook-pictures, I think we should request some. It's such a shame that the international page is rarely updated.

Re: Rare pictures 1
I have some POTO christmas pictures, I'll dig them up.
As for the links, I don't mind direct links to open fan sites. Ditto for open Myspace profiles. Private Facebook profiles, open or closed, is a more sensitive issue.

Re: Rare pictures 1
Various christmas posters from London December 2009. Same basic design was used for Les Mis and POTO. I love that snowflake design. The first is a huge one from Piccadilly Circus, the two last ones are from the tube.
I know I've seen fun stuff in the past - Las Vegas cast xmas tree, UK Degas ballet girl as snowmen, Toronto cast caroling in Victorian costumes, the Phantom in Santa hat - but couldn't find them. Anyone who have these?
Re: Rare pictures 1
I'm integrating Maria Bjornson into a project I'm working on. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many photos of her out there. Anybody got some?

Re: Rare pictures 1
The quality might not be fantastic on all of them, but here's what I got (roughly sorted by year):Raphael wrote:I'm integrating Maria Bjornson into a project I'm working on. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many photos of her out there. Anybody got some?

1. The only known picture of Maria B. with her father Bjørn Bjørnson the younger. Early 80s? Maybe late 70s. Private, from his summer estate in Langesund, Norway.
2. Maria B. either working with or posing in front of a set model from POTO. Note the inspirational pictures on the table. I'm guessing late 80s for this one. Photo by Clive Barda.
3. Closeup of the previous photo.
4. The most featured picture of Maria B. used in many POTO brochures and web sites. Late 80s or early 90s.
5. A painting of Maria B. in the same style as her preferred headshot. By Yolanda Sonnabend.
6. Alas with a heavy watermark; this is a great portrait of her showing her Bjørnson heritage. Early 90s?
7. Possibly the most recent headshot of Maria B. used in Copenhagen in 2000/2001. Haven't seen this elsewhere.
8. My favourite photo of Maria B., showing her bent over a sketch of Piangi in Hannibal costume.
9. No in any way Phantom related, but apart from Phantom this is my favourite Maria B. design. It was used in "Die Valkyrie".
