Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
You know I saw a post somewhere that said that having Raoul become an alcoholic was actually giving him more character than the original and that it would make him more endearing to the audience. Where is the logic? Have I entered The Twilight Zone?

I know what post you are bringing up. It's on the Facebook LND page. And yeah, I made sure to give that girl quite the smacking for that. That is just ignorant. Never, in anything, does alcoholism 'giving a person character'.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
That is the very post, was it on the official or unofficial? I see so many crazy posts regarding to the sequel they all blend into one...
ETA: Now they are claiming all sequel fans are Raoul fans. Okay I am a Raoul fan but I am far more mature to have a Team Erik/Team Raoul style debate. I appreciate both characters.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I know we were talking here about the general reaction to the sequel outside of this forum and one thing that has stood out for me lately is the reaction to the video of Sierra singing the recycled song. Outside the Phantom fan communities, the reaction to the song has been pretty much as expected...that it's bland/reused/typical Lloyd Webber...but also quite hostile about Sierra's performance of it overall.
Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
For all those interested, and for those whom have seen my Announcement of Global Importance video all that time ago, I'm going to be started an extended video rant on all the subjects (plot, cast, music, rumors) on Love Never Dies. I'll be exploring the pros and cons, but in truth, since I am in fact anti sequel, I'll probably be focusing more on the cons. Still, I'll be stating everybody's viewpoint throughout the course of the videos (in short, I'm not going to bash other people's opinions). Anyway, it'll be something in the nature of the Announcement of Global Importance but much more well edited and detailed.
For all who are interested, here is the link to the trailer:

For you costume lovers out there, sounds strange and interesting. Could it be something special for Christine or one of Meg's onstage "oh la la" costumes.

I'm anticipating that more than the sequel itself. Make with the video now, woman!
Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Bob Crowley has made lovely costumes in the past, I'm sure he'll make equally lovely stuff for Phantom II. I just wish it thrilled me more... I've seriously lost interest in the whole thing.

What if the cat came back? ... Like as a ghostie? And haunted the production and forced it to shut down for the day? Like it shredded all the costumes and stuff like that.

Or used the orchestra pit as a giant litter box...

Sounds quite interesting. Seriously, since we know the plot is crap, and the music so far is lacklustre, the only thing I am looking forward to is the production/costume design. Hopefully the show will at least be beautiful to look at.
Thanks for posting the article.

Ohhhh, the drama, lol.
Personally I think there are far better songs for career-boosting than "The Heart is Slow to Learn/Our Kind of Love/Love Never Dies".

Holy Melodrama, Batman!
OK, there's not much context to go on, but if I'm not hallucinating and Christine just revealed that to The Phantom, well, my resolve to at least *try* to be somewhat opened minded about the sequel just went *poofles*
Do. Not. Like.

I've tried to remain pretty neutral as far as the sequel is concerned but this is the last straw...
On the other hand, all tracks are available to preview, or so it seems...

Okay... well Giry Confronts the Phantom I do not like the sound of at all, especially the Giry sorry.
And well The Phantom confronts Christine... this really is the last straw.
ETA: And what is up with Ramin's voice? That is not his Phantom voice from the original... I am not even impressed with him on this and that is saying something.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I don't like Ramin here, either...and I usually do like him. But here...well, I keep picturing his as the badly over-the-top villain in one of those old silent nickelodeon melodrama with the shrieking helpless heroine tied to the railroad tracks. Top hat, twirling mustache, leering evil grin...
I can't listen to all of the preview tracks right now because I've got two Brooklyn guys in the next room arguing about dry cleaning prices and I can't find my headphones.
But, really, that one clips just takes a gorgeous tragedy and makes it into a third-rate soap.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I'm really concerned now that watching the preview on Feb 20th is going to spoil my enjoyment of the original.
I've even begun to think about methods and techniques I could could use to persuade myself, having seen LND, that I was just confused and it wasn't actually related to Phantom after all, that it was just some other show.
Also considering just giving up my tickets and forgetting about the whole thing. I just can't now see even the slightest possibility that this is going to turn out well.

Go to the Amazon.co.uk page for the full soundtrack--the previews are there.
So far the only other two I bothered to listen to are "Bathing Beauty" (meh) and "The Beauty Underneath" (sounds like something pulled out of the bin behind Trans-Siberian Orchestra's studio).

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
Mandrake I wouldn't worry after listening to those previews (of most of the songs now) you will safely be able to pretend that is not Phantom. Those sings, are NOT Phantom at all. If you go, just think of it as Love Never Dies and forget the Phantom part. Or at least try.
My ears, my poor ears.
ETA: The Beauty Underneath, why in my mind can I see Ramin headbanging to that?

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
OMG. I don't care who I offend now or what I say. This is a load of utter shite.
Even though I was suspecting Gustave was the Phantom's son, hearing that sung for real has just been like a giant wake-up call.
Mandrake, I am seriously considering selling my tickets to the first preview. Hopefully I can make a tidy profit from it. I could not want to see a show LESS right now.
EDIT: I notice Sunset has been recycled too ( and I like Sunset)...it's the "Let me take you back six months" phrase... Oh and what a shame Liz Robertson had to destroy Mme Giry with an accent even worse than Miranda Richardson's... Sounds like Meg's the new Darius... I'm going to have a lie down.

Yeah, I thought I heard a bit of SB somewhere in there. And dear God, Giry sounds like Frau Blucher...

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
So this is what I was able to conclude from a listen of the whole thing (just from the samples):
Madame Giry is trying to hook Meg up with the Phantom/Mr. Y
Madame Giry is outraged that the Phantom and Christine are back together again
Christine and the Phantom have a son named Gustave
Christine still loves The Phantom, and will probably run away with him (it is uncertain)
Raoul and the Phantom meet up and make a deal over Christine
Meg Giry is a burlesque dancer
Raoul is an in debt, alcholic, rude father
Fleck & Gangle (is there another one?) are workers for the Phantom/Mr. Y and follow Christine Daae around
The chorus numbers are absolutely horrible
Someone can't swim, and almost drowns in the ocean at the end of the musical
This all reads like someone's fanfiction coming to life. I feel disgusted.
What else has anybody figured out? I decided to put this up here because this is for certain stuff.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
All the preview tracks can be found here, for anyone having trouble spotting them.
My thoughts, in no particular order:
Most of this sounds so juvenile. Besides the horrible, vapid lyrics, the songs in general just sound like jokes! "Heaven By The Sea" and "Christine Disembarks" sound like a bunch of teenagers rented a recording studio for an hour. I'm getting the impression (from an interview with Summer Strallen and the bit I've heard of "Dear Old Friend") that Erik has been composing crap lately and will suddenly compose something nice again when Christine shows up, but is the entire show's score supposed to reflect his crap songwriting?
Is that Meg being a little brat to her mother in "That's the place that you ruined, you fool!"? The Madame Giry I know would not cower before Meg.
Is that supposed to be Raoul in "What A Dreadful Town!..."? Because if so...there are no words to express my outrage.
There is nothing remotely Phantomy about any of this music.
Ramin sounds pretty bad. Sierra sounds pretty, but exactly the same on every song.
"The Beauty Underneath"...what was that?
"The Phantom Confronts Christine"...*head/desk* We all knew it was going to happen, but I still can't quite believe it. And I'm shocked they let out a spoiler that big in a preview track. I almost wonder if they didn't mean for that to happen, because it seems pretty stupid to have that way out in the open.
Well, we now have audible proof (in "Devil Take The Hindmost") that Raoul is "deep in debt, stinking drunk".
"Bathing Beauty"...*weeps for Meg*
"Gustave! Gustave!..." ends with the Phantom shouting about Madame Giry: "The ungrateful ba--" The ungrateful what? What was he about to call her? Backstabber?
Please tell me that I'm not hearing Meg attempting to drown Gustave in the final track. Please tell me that's not what I'm hearing.

Yes I would say it is Raoul in "What A Dreadful Town" with the lines "Father please..." (from girly Gustave as I shall now refer to him) and the line about "the debts that we owe."
And I thought it was Meg trying to drown Gustave in the final track... but I sincerely hope not.

Re: Love Never Dies - all views allowed
I just listen to those sample tracks. Wow, what a load of horse s**t. It just proves in my mind that ALW is now a hack. That music was boring, the lyrics were laughable. Devil Take The Hind Most sort of reminded me of a show down in an old wild west film. In short, I think i may vomit.
