How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
At school, my nickname is Phanut, because the topic of every conversation with me can relate to phantom of the opera, its actually kinda funny, sometimes people Go through my binder and find nothing but phantom related pictures. I was showing someone my autographed playbill From " Broadway memories with marie danvers and rob gallagher. A Kid said, " if that has To dO with Phantom of the opera, i'm going to tear it up." He was serious, i ran. Anyone want to share some of their POTO nut stories? (-9 (Phantom Smiley.)
Is no one responding just because im a kid?

In 8th grade, I was known as "that Phantom girl" and was once called so directly to my face. It made me smile.

Haha! That's pretty funny, actually.
I know I have more stories, but I can't think of any at the moment.

Haha! And that's awesome.
In 7th grade, we had to write poems, so I wrote a Phantom poem. And then we had to write a sports article, so I wrote about a baseball game between the Phantoms and the phan girls. Those were a lot of fun.

Why the need to lock it? Only admin and moderators can lock a thread.
Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
No need to lock it because of that. Some threads sit around for months without new replies only to suddenly get a hit. You never know. I wouldn't worry about it.

How you know you're a Phantom Nut
I have had fellow fans who were married, have their husbands tell them "It's either me or him (the phantom).
when Dave Willets was still in London as Phantom, my friend Christine and her sister in law went, her husband had no idea that she had gone to see Dave behind his back.
I know that I can change almost any subject to the Phantom of the opera, I can change a subject like the war to phantom, "Speaking of Phantom Jets, that reminds me of a funny story about the Phantom of the Opera"

Hehe... I know a lot of us have done school assignments related to POTO (particularly book reports and reviews of the stage show or film versions, which I've also done). In my senior year of high school, though, I found a way to bring Phantom references into my SAT essay answer. The question was something to the effect of "Should we allow other people's perceptions of beauty to influence our own?" I included bits about the Leroux novel in my answer (as well as some stuff about Joseph Merrick (the "Elephant Man") and "Hunchback of Notre Dame"). From what I recall, I got quite a good score on the English section, so I guess they liked my essay.

I should have thought of that. Of course, I don't even remember what the topic was when I took it, but I scored a 6... Out of 12. Luckily the school I'm most interested in isn't looking at essay scores (and I did well on the rest of the test).IamErik771 wrote:Hehe... Anyway, back to the Phantom nut thing... Umm, you take your mask with you when you go to get your senior portraits done?

Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
Well, I did a quick writeup today, on where and how many times I've seen the show.
25 in Copenhagen.
12 in West End
2 on Broadway
2 in Germany (Hamburg and Essen)
In March 2009 I saw Phantom four times. In November 2004 I saw it three times. And 10 times I've taken a double dip (seeing both matinée and evening performance). I have officially passed the point of no return.

But isn't it great to be past that point? he he
Another way to know you're a Phantom nut...
When you're discussing your jaw disorder called TMJ with folks and you keep saying/typing TMG(Tim Martin Gleason). Yup was a fun discussion with the dentist today. Maybe he thought it was because my mouth was frozen. lol

Hahaha! I'm betting you got about the same odd look as when I just HAD to stop and take a picture of a car with the lisence plate (fill in random numbers) ALW.MasqPhan wrote:When you're discussing your jaw disorder called TMJ with folks and you keep saying/typing TMG(Tim Martin Gleason). And year, I like it on this side of the bridge.
Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
Reaching new levels of Phantom nerdiness when listing the various performances I've seen, and realizing I have never seen Phantom in June, and never on a Thursday - and concluding that I have to do something about that... Preferably seeing it on a Thursday in June.
Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
I had one a while back. On another POTO board, there was a thread where people were wondering about Phantom actors who sang "far from my fathering gaze" rather than "far-reaching gaze" in "Wandering Child." That got me curious, so I went through a bunch of my recordings to see when that was first done. The earliest occurrence I could find was a 1992 recording from London with Peter Karrie as the Phantom. Peter seemed to have sung "fathering" every time he played the role (or at least, every performance I could find a recording of), and he was perhaps the only one who did until Paul Stanley took on the role in Toronto in 1999. They may have been the only two Phantoms who sang "fathering" until the 2004 movie popularized it, and now it seems like the majority of English-language productions do.
There have also been cases of Phantoms changing how they did that line over time. John Owen-Jones, Earl Carpenter, Scott Davies, and Hugh Panaro sang "far-reaching" in their early years in the role, but changed it to "fathering" relatively recently. Ramin Karimloo sang "far-reaching" for every performance I could find audio of when he played the role on the West End, but sang "fathering" in the 25th anniversary concert. And most interestingly, Anthony Crivello in the Las Vegas cast started out singing "fathering" (as did Brent Barrett), but by 2009, had changed it to "fatherly." Yet, Ian Jon Bourg still sang "fathering" in Vegas in 2012, but did "far-reaching" in his understudy days in the '90s and in the World Tour in 2013.
Yep, I'm a nerd. And if anyone else has any other findings that may contradict anything I've posted above (i.e. someone other than PK and Paul Stanley who sang "fathering" in the '90s, or a performance where PK sang "far-reaching"... or if you happen to know what any of the other Vegas understudies did for that line), please feel free to let me know!

Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
I *think* D'Ambrosio used "fathering" during his run in San Francisco from '93 to '99.

Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
Ah, good catch! It sounds like Franc may have been singing either "fathering" or "fatherly" -- a bit hard to tell from these clips, but I'll give 'em another listen later on.
Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
Great POTO nerd stories everyone! So much fun to read. My favorite from my life so far is how I met one of my friends. We were both college music majors in the same class and one day I wore my Phantom charm bracelet to class. She came up and introduced herself afterwards, because she figured that anyone with a Phantom of the Opera bracelet had to be a crazy phan like her. Sadly, she's not that into Phantom anymore, but just the other day she messaged me on Facebook saying that someone used the word "masquerade" in a conversation and it made her think of me.
Re: How You Know You're a Phantom Nut.
Oh gosh, I've got a few phan humdingers I've made before -
1) 25th Anniversary Concert, at my local cinema in Manchester. I befriended the only other girl my age in the cinema based on 'Oh Gosh, 25th anniversary concert' fangirl squeeing. We'd both gone for different reasons (I was an Earl Carpenter fan, she was more a Ramin Karimloo girl), but once we started talking Phantom, we just couldn't stop! Like pringles...
2) Ogling the Peter Fox shoe website just to stare at the shoes -just because the Phantom shows source their Christine slippers from there. Occasionally consider buying a pair...I generally give up on this due to pricing and the fact there are limited places to wear pristine white satin slippers outside of a theatrical show.
3) I'm blaming Anea for this one, in the nicest possible way! I was watching Unit One, a Danish TV show (young Mads Mikkelsen, yum!) with the family, when I spot Det Ny Theatre in an establishing shot of Copenhagen. I immediately get far too over-excited and shout 'Hey,they show Phantom there in Denmark!' Family now thinks I slavishly look up where Phantom plays in every country around the globe.
