Past POTO actors, what are they doing now?
John Owen Jones is currently recording a new album due for release in December. And if you take a close look at this picture you can see the titles of two of the songs for the album. (If I'm correct) It's "I'd Rather Be Sailing" and "Tell My Father".
I'm really looking forward to his new album, and this time we will get 10 songs instead of just 5.

And of course you probably all know that JOJ will be John Valjean in the upcoming 25th anniversary Les Mis tour, together with ex-Phantom Earl Carpenter as Valjean.
Ex-London/Toronto/Hong Kong Phantom Peter Karrie recently starred in the musical version of The Thorn Birds.

Apparently Katie Hall, recent Christine u/s in London and currently Cosette in Les Mis, will also play Cosette in the 25th Anniversary Tour.
Re: Past POTO actors, what are they doing now?
Hugh Panaro will be back at Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theatre to play Fagin in their holiday production of Oliver!.

How about current POTO actors?
Kim Stengel will be appearing in Steven Spielberg's big-screen version of Tintin. It won't be released for a couple of years but she's playing Bianca Castafiore, a melodramatic Italian opera diva with the tendency to sing the jewel song from Faust at deafening volume. That's based on what Wikipedia says about the comic character, anyway; she may or may not be toned down in a live-action verion. Either way, it sounds like a pretty epic fit to me! ^_^

Sandra Joseph is going to appear on a brand new upcoming episode of Law & Order on NBC. The episode is called "Doped" and it will premiere on November 13th at 8p.

YAY! At first I thought this would be a repeat of the last episode she was on, but the clip looks like it will be an all new episode. I will definitely have to try to watch it. My non-Broadway loving boyfriend likes the show a lot, so I'll make him watch it with me as I point and squeal "that's Sandra Joseph!"Stephanie wrote:Sandra Joseph is going to appear on an upcoming episode of Law & Order on NBC. NBC decided to air the new episode of Law & Order (with Sandra) early. It aired last Friday and we all missed it (including Sandra!).
The good news is that you can download the episode on iTunes if you would like to see it. The episode is called "Doped."

General newsy update on Hugh Panaro...
Philly Inquirer did a really nice article on him (they specifically wanted a Lestat photo of, but yours truly got to pick it )
Clicky for article
Also, Joel Markowitz of D.C. Theatre Scene did another good interview with Hugh for Oliver! (Joel's interview with him during Les Miz is one of the best). They talk a lot about the make-up process for Fagin and Hugh again talks about wanting to play Sweeney Todd (yes, please)
After Oliver!, he's got a ton of concerts coming up through May...Edmonton, Charlotte, Columbus, Flagstaff, Cleveland, Ottawa. The Cleveland one is with Anne Runolfsson, still my favorite Carlotta.

Where are they now or then in some cases
I was watching the Sopranos, Timothy Nolan, was in a very small brief scene.
I saw the Tudors, and Colm Wilkenson, is on a few episodes, I believe season 2 or three.

So thanks to Senor, I found this thread, anyway, as I said in the London thread:
If anyone is near Shreveport, Louisiana you can see ex- Raoul (London) Simon Bailey and his band performing on Saturday 12th February 2011, all proceeds are going to the River City Rep theatre company.
ETA: Oh, actually, if you're in London you can also see him (along with previous cast member Rebecca Lock and many others) in The Songs of Bobby Cronin on February 27th 2011.

Moved it back to the ALW thread... Think it's easier to have it there.starryeyed wrote:So thanks to Senor, I found this thread, anyway (..)
Speaking of which: has Rachel Barrell completely disappeared of the face of the earth? Last I heard was that she starred as Johanna in the tour/Gothenburg version of "Sweeney Todd" (with Rosemary Ashe as Mrs. Lovett, would have LOVED to see that!). That was 2008. Surely she's performed after that?
Speaking of which, Flemming Enevold is starring as Sweeney Todd in Aarhus, Denmark, starting April 1.

Ramin Karimloo and Simon Bailey (also Stephen Rahman-Hughes but he hasn't been in Phantom) are in Malaysia at the minute. There's a tonne of videos being uploaded almost every day so hopefully people will be able to find the others from that one (there's a clip of them all singing Memory floating around too.)
However, I thought I'd post this as they do talk about Phantom and I also like that Ramin says (about the original) "...it is sort of publicly owned" and not in a patronising way like some other people. I think it shows he is understanding why people feel so strongly on the sequel (though in this context he is talking about the pressure he feels playing Phantom in LND.)
ETA: Simon Bailey referring to ALW as having written "some of the greatest tunes" has really made my day. I don't know why it just sounds funny.

This is awesome. I wonder if anybody will be bringing Phantom things for him to sign.

I'm not sure they'll be allowed to, I'm pretty sure he's there as part of the Wizard of Oz cast signing and at those signings apparently you must buy the cast recording in Dress Circle and can only get that signed.

I can't be sure though! It's just they are so strict about having to have bought the CD there etc that I can't imagine they'd allow you to bring other show merchandise to be signed. Also, a huge Phantom fan I know went along today and all his pictures are of the Wizard of Oz things he got signed. So looks as though I was right unfortunately.

If you want to visit Her Majesty's Theatre for other reasons than Phantom, check in this Sunday. The theatre will be hosting the "Dress Circle Benefit Gala" on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 7.30 pm. The gala includes musical artists like:
Rebecca Caine
Rosemary Ashe
Simon Bowman
Ramin Karimloo
Claire Moore
Robyn North
Peter Polycarpou
Frances Ruffelle
Hannah Waddingham
Plus a 33-piece orchestra. I seriously envy those who can attend!

*gasp*
Are there other reasons?
Seriously, that sounds like a terrific program, though.

Rita Saxmark (Carlotta in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Antwerp), Niklas Andersson (Raoul in West End), Fernando Concha (Piangi in Copenhagen) and others are doing a concert series called "From Vienna to the West End". It's performed on August 6th, 11th, 12th and 16th, at Hallwylska, Stockholm.
