Wasn't it his birthday too? I seem to recall someone mentioning that. Very lucky guy.Phantom on a Budget wrote:And regarding the comments of the fan who got selected for the Phantom makeup/costume bit: Yes he was hamming it up, but anyone else in that situation would have done the same thing. He is a very nice guy and expressed sincerely on several occasions how much of a dream come true it was. I'm extremely happy for him to have had that opportunity. There's absolutely no reason to be critical.

I agree completely. He was so thrilled, and such a nice guy. I was really ecstatic for him. And I thought it was great how patient he was with all of us who wanted photos with him throughout the day, too.Phantom on a Budget wrote:And regarding the comments of the fan who got selected for the Phantom makeup/costume bit: Yes he was hamming it up, but anyone else in that situation would have done the same thing. He freaked out when I almost leaned against one of his tassels. I don't think you'd want to try anything with that costume.Christine's Shadow wrote:

I certainly wasn't trying to be critical, though maybe a bit of jealousy was coming through because dammit, I want to be him in that makeup.
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
I remember doing a double-take when I walked by him having lunch in the food court while still in full makeup It'll be interesting to hear his comments about the experience when he's on the radio show this weekend.phantomgirl110 wrote:I agree completely. I love how I'm wandering aimlessly in the background at the top of the Masquerade recap. That's totally me Sorry to hear about your tech issues, Linds!Phantom on a Budget wrote:I have the Masquerade recap up on my YouTube page (link), as well as the first part (of six) of Sam Fleming's costume seminar. Unfortunately my computer crashed this evening, so it'll be at least next week before the rest of that series and the Hal Prince speech are posted. I hate technology. I also hate packing. Just sayin'...

Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Anyone who knows who wore that splendid Hussar costume (Raoul in Masquerade)? It looked phenomenal!
I read in an interview that he did American civil war stuff, and felt his costume was more historically correct than the stage costume. Although I see what he mean, it irked me a bit... Cause the Hussar uniform didn't have ONE look, it applied for most uniforms with ornamental gold braids in front of the jacket, inspired by the Huzsars, and was worn in many different ways between the 18.th and 20.th century. The fact that the talented guy has shaped his after what might have been worn one specific place doesn't make it more "correct"... Especially not if his costume is a replica of one worn in the American civil war (ETA - which is something I doubt Raoul would wear some 15-20 years later in Paris - he would more likely be inspired by Napoleon's hussars or the likes).
But as I said, the costume looked splendid. Did anyone get to take a picture with him or of him?

Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures with him, nor did I get to talk to him for very long. He, Ashley, Andy, Kathryn (who's not on this board) and I were gathered together down in front of the stage before the show in costume that night (and, of course, couldn't take pictures inside the theatre before the show), but after that I only saw flashes of him during the masquerade. The costume was lovely in person, that much I can say with certainty.operafantomet wrote:Anyone who knows who wore that splendid Hussar costume (Raoul in Masquerade)? It looked phenomenal!
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
I did love his costume. I think we were the only two Raoul's. I only say one Christine. I loved your costume by the way ChorusGirl
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
I'm surprised there didn't show up more Christines, I expected lots of white dressing gowns for some reason. But the one who DID show up, in her Star Princess costume, did make up for that!
If anyone DO have a picture of the Hussar Raoul in question, I'd love to see it! I've only seen one semi-good one so far. Phantom10906, did you get a chance to talk to him?

Not really. We really just complimented each other on our costumes. I have been wondering what the costumes will look like next year.

Thanks so much for the pictures, Mandy! Too fun. Looks like the under-layers of my skirt were a bit off in the first one... It was sure interesting getting all of me to fit in my Mini Cooper on the way over!
And thanks, Operafantomet & Phantom10906 for your kind words. Really, I was hoping for a big group Christine picture myself! That would have been fun. Maybe next year...?

One more thing... Forgive me if this has has been brought up already, but I was reading this review of the Vegas Phantom, and I did a double take after looking at the photo... It's the Phans, and not the real actors! I recalled that the Hannibal bodice was different for the make-over session. That, and Christine doesn't usually laugh at the Phantom during Music of the Night...

That's priceless. Looks like Ashley and Jason were so good during the makeover that they were promoted. I wonder if that photo will end up being misused for other non-Fans Week Phantom articles. Totally hilarious.

I've already started saving money.... (uhm, the grammar seems awfully off... ignore that). Money was the only thing stopping me this year, I had the time and I have costumes to use. I just couldn't afford it. So I'm very happy to hear they'll repeat it next year.ChorusGirl wrote:And thanks, Operafantomet & Phantom10906 for your kind words. BroadwayWorld's report from Las Vegas. Brianne ending the video, smooth... There's also a bit about the ones who were dressed up as the Phantom and Christine, a bit about the costumes, various Vegas stage clips and small comments from people attending the event.

Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Cool stuff, but yeah, it's surprising they didn't include anything with any of you guys.
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
To come back to that, I saw Sam Fleming repeating the idea of the Vegas Don Juan costumes being grander than in other productions. I've compared tons of pics with eachother now, and I honestly don't see a noticeable difference. Compared to Broadway and the US tour some costumes are near-to-identical with eachother (in terms of silhouette and materials used). Compared to other productions (Canada and Australia, for example), Vegas might even come off as less ornamented. I'm not saying this to put the Vegas costumes down, as they are gorgeous and it's long since a new production looked so fresh. But I find the statement odd and I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing. And so far I don't see anything pointing "in favour" of Vegas.Raphael wrote:Maybe the costumes are the *Opera*'s interpretation of peasant garb? I agree, there's not a significant difference between the original costumes and the Vegas ones.operafantomet wrote:
I know I'm a negative pain in the ass now, but the original design (at least costume wise) is not a peasant look, by far.
I agree with your comment about it being a Victorian (opera) idea of Baroque Spanish middle class garbs, and I'm sure Maria Bjørnson used actual 19.th century Garnier pictures as a basis for what she designed (she did that for Hannibal). But what I (and probably others) hear in Fleming's comment is that the Vegas production shows elaborate overclass garbs, while other production shows peasant garbs. And that's a highly inaccurate description.
Obviously I'm speaking against an authority here, as Fleming has been with the show for some 20 years. But I'll cook together some pictures of comparison (especially Vegas VS regular US, but also compared to for example Australia) and you can make up your own mind.
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Agreed! That was a journalistic scope BroadwayWorld.com missed.SenorSwanky wrote:Cool stuff, but yeah, it's surprising they didn't include anything with any of you guys.
Seems like they singled out adults (I.E. over 40), why I do not know... Possibly an attempt to make a "serious" reportage from Vegas - but if you're heading for a Phantom convention in Vegas why not also interview those who's put a lot of time and effort into going there? I mean, the people interviewed was sweet enough, but a mixture of "soft" fans and hardcore fans would be much more fun!
Were you in costume at this point? Maybe they thought you were employees or from the cast...
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Nope, this was the morning after the masquerade ball. The only people in costume were Ashley and Jason.operafantomet wrote:Were you in costume at this point? Maybe they thought you were employees or from the cast...
Lindsey, Bryan and I were interviewed on-camera together, but I guess they just didn't find us enchanting enough.
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Maybe Bryan's constant looking for Sam made that footage not so great. LOL! He said first.

Re: Las Vegas Phan week
LOL, true. They probably wouldn't want to air footage of somebody who was constantly looking off in the other direction.
Re: Las Vegas Phan week
Whoever got to attend was very lucky indeed. I can only dream of actually going on of these years. Hope everyone who did go had a blast!

Yeah, Phantom phans need an equivalent to the Slave Leia group photos at those comic book conventionsChorusGirl wrote:And thanks, Operafantomet & Phantom10906 for your kind words. Really, I was hoping for a big group Christine picture myself! That would have been fun. Maybe next year...?
Anyone remember the names of the two men who led the Chandelier Session? I was looking through my notes and realized I hadn't written them down.
