But wasn't the conflict with Trevon Nunn rather that Nunn weren't credited for stuff he meant was basis for the new production? Stuff he had created in the past which was now remodeled instead of removed?

Cammie is a good guy, but a part of me thinks that when he gets obsessed with something, his brain just goes out the window and it comes back when someone calls him out on something. Aka, this little trist with Trevor Nunn.

Earl Carpenter will be singing the role of the Bishop at the concert at O2.

Clicky!

I'm not attending, but still hoping for a DVD release of the event.

I guess that makes sense since in the 10th Anniversary concert, they used a lot of former leads in ensemble roles, but Earl is a far better Javert than whatshisface.

I'd like to hear Earl as The Bishop...mainly because I like those scenes a great deal and, unfortunately, never get to see a memorable Bishop. I've always wished that the Bishop was included with Fantine for Valjean's death, too.

I know I *should* be excited about the anniversary and the tour, etc....but, for some reason, it's not really holding my interest.

A bit of movie news...Cameron Mackintosh is confirming it.

It's been at this stage before, so it's very preliminary, but I do hope they can work up a good screenplay adaptation this time. Few musicals have been successful translated from book to screenplay. I think Sound of Music is the only one that really, truly improved on its source material in terms of the story structure and characterization and additional dialogue. Les Mis will be hard to translate because it's so soliloquy-heavy and character-heavy, with people singing in multiple settings (as in One Day More) and a lot of exposition that probably wouldn't work on the screen.

No, the article mentions he's beginning work with a screenwriter shortly.

It seems like most of the 25th Anniversary Tour cast, or indeed everyone, will be in the O2 show. JOJ will be playing Convict no. 1 for example. Shame he's not going to be Valjean as he more than justly deserved, but at least he gets to open the show Very Happy

That's just such an insult. The 10th concert featured the best of the best who had actually performed the roles, not stunt casting and then everyone who's any good relegated to bit roles. I'm not the biggest ValJOJ fan, but he's surely better than whatever dude I've never heard of is doing the role in the O2 concert.

I agree. Or, I wouldn't call it an insult, but I don't really think it's cool. I thought it was kinda degrading that Earl Carpenter was given the role of the bishop (although I'm looking forward to see what he'll do with the part). But JOJ as "convict 1"? Such a waste of talent.

A waste of talent indeed. I mean, JOJ was even voted Best Valjean of all time by the fans! And then the Jonas dude gets to play Marius while Hadley Fraser, one of the best to have played that part in my opinion, will be Grantaire. Never heard of the girls playing Cosette and Eponine either... Very strange casting choices Evil or Very Mad

I think JOJ mentioned something about being Jean Valjean in a special finale (?), so maybe he get to end the show as well Very Happy
Is anyone on here going to watch the live screening?

Also, Gareth Gates just announced that he's going to take over the role as Marius at the Queen's Theatre, from the 18th October.

Was thinking about it but it feels a bit silly to spend money on a screening if I'm not spending money on the real thing. I know the former is a lot cheaper, but this cast really does not excite me one bit. I'll wait for the DVD I think. Are you going to go?

Yeah. Putting Michael McCarthy as the Foreman is fine because Philip Quast is clearly a superior Javert. But you can't say the same of most of the people playing the leads in this concert.

I was thinking about it too, but I'm working Sunday afternoon and I'm not sure I would bother to rush off to a cinema somewhere afterwards if no one from here is going anyway. I would like to see it live just to see what Earl will be like as The Bishop and to see this "special finale" JOJ has been talking about. But I think I can wait for the DVD to be honest.

Quick question for those who have the 2010 London cast album: Do any of you know who played Young Cosette and Gavroche for that performance? I've looked around online but haven't had any luck finding that info.

According to the castlist on the CD, Gavroche was played by Toby Prynne and Little Cosette by Samara Clarke.

Bitch fight alert! Cammie takes a leaf out of ALW's books and tells Trev to "get a life" (see the end of this article): http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Showbiz-News/Les-Miserables-Celebrates-Its-25th-Anniversary-Making-It-The-Longest-Running-Musical-In-History/Article/201010115749839?lpos=Showbiz_News_First_Media_Article_Teaser_Region__0&lid=ARTICLE_15749839_Les_Miserables_Celebrates_Its_25th_Anniversary_Making_It_The_Longest_Running_Musical_In_History

A nice news report here, although it's a bit misleading to say Les Mis started in Stratford-upon-Avon of all places just because RSC is based there: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11456895

So is anyone here actually bothering going to the O2 tomorrow and/or a cinema that's broadcasting the concert live? I've decided I'm not that fussed. I'll celebrate on the 8th at the original instead.

Just got back from the Odeon....I can honestly say that was absolutley stunning.
I hear and understand all of the questions raised by people over some of the casting decisions but Alfie Boe was incredible. PERIOD. His voice had such power and he proved to be a great actor too; at the finale sharing the stage with Colm Wilkinson, JOJ, Simon Bowman he truly had earnt his place amongst such lofty company. Norm Lewis' Stars was potentially my favourite rendition of that song ever. Mr Jonas was admittedly awkward and miscast, but not to the degree where it would ruin ones enjoyment especially with RK, Samantha Barks and Katie Hall sharing scenes with him. Staging was at times epic, at others simple but effective.
Too many great performances to talk about but needless to say the DVD can't come soon enough and I think those who were aprehensive may be pleasantly surprised by what they find. Definitive? No. A fascinating creative endeavour? Definitely.

Post  ML6 Mon Oct 04, 2010 2:06 am

I actually enjoyed Nick Jonas' voice during 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables'. I do think that his emotion was lacking. But that song was pretty good.

All right, I have a bit of a question/dilemma:

So, firstly, when did the change for the lyrics 'I Saw Him Once' to 'In My Life' take place? It had to be before the Broadway transfer. So, that would make it 1985/86, somewhere in there. Next, does anybody know when Roger Allam left? Did he leave before Colm Wilkinson or after? Lastly, how long did most of the OLC stay on the cast between that time frame? Who were their understudies?

Any help on answering these questions would be great.

Definitely filmed because it was broadcast to cinema's across the UK. A DVD/blu-ray is already announced and available for pre-order, slated November. No word on a CD yet, though I doubt it since the tour cast recording was only released in September. A shame since I'd love some of those performances on my MP3 player.

They just announced the cast list for the US Tour.

Wow, I *really* wanted to see this, and now I'm not so sure. I don't know a SINGLE name (outside Andrew Valera, of course). Those I revealed earlier are in the cast. But honestly, why do a 25th Anniversary tour in the US when nobody from the original casts or tours in the US are a part of it.

I honestly don't care anymore. I'll probably care when they announce someone with worthy stature is on for one of the leads.
