Post  Madame Giry Mon Oct 10, 2011 1:11 pm

Kickstarting this thread.

ITEMS FOR SALE

I am in the process of scaling back my collection of Phantom collectibles and memorabilia. I am doing this both in anticipation of moving in the next year or so and because my Phantom collecting interests have shifted more toward printed materials, books, and artwork over the years. I still have to dig out everything and price and photograph the things I will be offering for sale, but here's a preliminary list of items that will be sold:

- San Francisco Music Box Company 'Graveyard' Phantom musical waterglobe
- San Francisco Music Box Company 'Graveyard' Phantom musical figurine
- San Francisco Music Box Company Phantom at the Organ in Oriental Robes musical figurine (w/ original box)
- Clay Art porcelain ALW Phantom half mask (have two, but only need one)
- ALW Phantom mask, rose, and title logo black coffee mug
- Unknown production 'Phantom of the Opera' wine glass
- Michael Crawford Phantom Polonaise Glass Christmas ornament (w/original hang tag)
- Various small items such as keychains, pins, magnets, and ornaments
- The Complete Phantom of the Opera, by George Perry, hardcover with dust jacket
- Softcover edition of the Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, illustrated by Greg Hildebrandt
- MCIFA newsletters

I am also considering selling an Enesco large-size Phantom of the Opera musical jack-in-the-box, which has its fedora and original box.

I will post again to this thread when I have updated my sales list with more info, prices, and pics. There will likely be more additions, as well, as I excavate and find things that I've packed away for a while. If you are interested in a particular piece, please PM me for more info.

WANTED TO BUY

That being said, I *do* have a Wanted To Buy list. Collecting priorities include:

- Phantom art prints by Bradley Parrish and Robert Heindel
- Franklin Mint porcelain Phantom and Christine dolls
- Franklin Mint porcelain Phantom and Christine Music of the Night musical figurine
- Any props/costumes from the ALW stage production (high priority given to Madame Giry related items)
- San Francisco Music Box Company 'crystal' clear Opera House musical figurine
- London 'Phantastic!' Red Death showcard
- Original or limited edition artist-produced Phantom prints, sculptures, dolls, or other works of art

If you have any of these items and are interested in selling, please PM me (before you PM anyone else on this thread... just kidding! Very Happy )

Regards,

Phantom items for sale (non ebay) Empty New Phantom of the Opera Backstage 1986-1987 Book Available

Post  Devon Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:04 am

Hey everyone,

My good friend Marcus Tylor, who is a photographer out of England, wanted me to share and spread the word of his new book. The first place I thought of was here!! Several years ago Marcus put out a black and white paperback book with the same title. He was there for the Phantom's original run and took several pictures from 1986-1987 and decided a book would be a really great way to share his memories with everyone! Over the years he's always wanted to produce a coffee table book with colored glossy pictures and he finally did it! He has added many more photos that are not available in the first edition and also, some of the original London cast members from 86-87 shared their thoughts in his book as well. One whom I know for sure shared some stories is Rosemary Ashe, the original Carlotta. Anyhoo, this is a great book and I wanted to share the link with everybody. It's a tad pricey but Marcus had to do this on his own. I'll be ordering my copy probably right after Christmas when I have more cash flow...hehe But this is worth it, he's a great photographer and person and I have seen some pictures that are included in this book, they are awesome. I know I've never seen them before on the net.

Here's the link:

Thanks for the head's-up Devon Smile I just ordered my copy.

I think this should be kept on the down-low since rumor has it that RUG prevented Marcus from publishing his follow-up book on the Phantom costumes that so many of us were looking forward to. Word-of-mouth is fine (and I encourage it), but if this has to stay under RUG's radar, I'd keep it off the social networking sites and the like.

Hey Raphael, glad you ordered your copy!

Actually, Marcus has told me all about what happened with the book and RUG so I know not to go spreading it around on a dozen sites! Per his request, Marcus told me to post to my friends on Facebook and to put it on a couple Phantom forums. But obviously I'm staying away from RUG or the official POTO page. He has already published his first book with the same title but now is re-publishing it with more added to it. But thanks for putting that out there for others on the forum who may want to spread the word so they have a head's up.....

Devon, thanks for helping to spread the word about this marvelous opportunity. I bought one of the original editions of the book and am pleased to see that it's been so greatly expanded and improved. Just ordered a copy for myself and look forward to receiving it. It sounds like a must-have tome for Phantom fans. Smile

As I wrote at FB, the book is pricey. But considering he's both taken the photos, done the write-ups, interviewed people, edited it AND published it himself, I'm not even sure he'll make money selling it for $102 a piece. He won't make a living of it, anyway. So whereas it's a large amount for a book, it's an amount he deserves.

I just with I could afford it... Sad

Thanks for sharing this with us. Is it allowed to gain some hope on the second volume with costumes, now that he's released the first volume as a proper book rather than a grainy sales catalogue?

Yeah he does deserve it, he put a lot of hard work into it.

Well as for the grainy issue, his first book looked that way but this new book is mostly colored glossy photos. It's what he wanted to do to begin with but didn't have the funds or time I don't think. But now he's at least releasing a new better version!

Never know though, you could always in the future look for it used and get a cheaper price because it is pricey!!

Okay, I talked to Marcus and he said that quote: " To answer your question about the costumes and can confirm that they are all in this new book, so no worries. Also to note that I shall not do another book, this is it."

He told me also that he won't do another book because of the RUG situation. Hence, this book is dedicated to the original cast and for their enjoyment, etc. But he also wants to share it with all the Phantom phans too. :-)

So it sounds like costume pics will be in there, I hope this answers your question!

I agree with you, Anea. I'd also like to point out that this is an enormous coffee-table quality book. The book description says it has some 320 pages and over 450 images, about evenly split half and half in b/w and color. I have a large collection of art books (mostly obtained through used book sales and bargain book racks) and I know that photography books of this size and calibre are often very expensive, even if they are produced by a major publishing house. So, while it is an expensive book, I agree, it is not priced out of range of similar books necessarily..

Devon, thanks so much for answering this question about the costumes. It was something I was wondering, too and I'm glad to hear that they will all be incorporated into this new book. It's so wonderful of Marcus to do this for the cast and fans of the show, despite his troubles with the original edition.

You are very welcome! I hope the costume pics are what everyone expects! I know that he's not going to do a book specifically for costumes alone (with all the issues in the past) but I'm sure there will be some real gems in there. :-)

Loettchen, if you go to the link that Devon posted for the book and click on the cover of the book you can get a preview of the book's contents. It might take some time to load, but the preview includes photos that were in the original edition, as well as new color images.

This doesn't quite belong in the costumes section but it does involve sewing. There is now officially licensed Phantom of the Opera printed material available for sale. My mind is thinking up all kinds of things to use this for.....Too bad I don't have the patience for sewing. lol I might have to change that.

The snarky side of me wanna scream" Stop calling it THE BROADWAY MUSICAL when you use pictures from the West End production!!!!".

The puzzled me wonders what the second last red print has to do with Phantom. No masks or logos or anything there?

The phan girl in me screams YAY. I'm seeing cool purses in the making... Thanks for sharing!

ooooo...

Many moons ago I could sew up a storm. Then I stopped. (Why? I really dunno...) Anyway. I just recently got my sewing machine fixed and was wondering what should be my new project...Now seeing these designs, the ideas are now spinning.

I might start out easy, like making a few throw pillows.

I saw there are a few stores in the Austin area that sell the QT fabric. Hopefully they'll get these in stock (or I'll just request them.. (lol)

My copy isn't supposed to arrive until Friday, which is just as well because I have two final exams to get through before then and it wouldn't do to fritter away my study time gawking at 300+ pages of Phantomy picture goodness. Wink

This book: *Jaw drops* Wow. Just wow. I'm speechless on how amazing it is. The photos he has. I'm beyond thrilled he is offering this book. Anyone who doesn't have a copy, grab one up. It's definitely worth it.

Made husband go through it with me. He was highly impressed too. And it's not easy to impress him with anything Phantom.

Er...is there a new link to his book? The original one doesn't seem to be working any more...says the page doesn't exist. I knew I shouldn't have delayed buying, PLEASE tell me I can still get a copy of it! Has Big Brother hunted him down?

EDIT: Ignore me, the book is still there - you just need to search for it on the website. I think the price has gone up, so I've paid several pounds more than I thought I was going to, but oh well. It's completely eradicated my PayPal balance, haha. Probably one of the most expensive books I've ever bought! Sounds like it's worth it, though...

I shouldn't really spend this kind of money on a book right now, but maybe I should grab one before the price gets even higher or before Big Brother finds out and you can't buy the book anymore. Seems like everyone on here are happy with their purchases to say the least Razz

It's hugely expensive for a book, but my parents have been nagging me because I haven't given them enough ideas for Christmas presents...perhaps I could ask for this as, you know, several presents in one? It could work...

Devon, do you know if there's any forseeable danger of the book becomming unavailable anytime soon? By forseeable I mean a danger other than the powers that be making trouble over it? It's not going to sell out or anything, is it?
