Hey folks,

I'm hoping you might be able to recommend some good Phan fic? I'm sure there's loads of stuff out there, and I thought rather than wading through it I'd just ask for a few favourites from folks who are 'in the know'.

Unfortunately I'm off work for a bit and am supposed to be 'resting' so I thought a really good POTO story might actually get me to sit still!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Can we recommend our own fics? Wink

Okay, not my own. I've heard that Quiet has a new modern-day fic called Martyr that many of my friends highly recommend:

She tries to save everyone, but they all seem to slowly slip through her fingers. One is ill, one is paralyzed…and the last one may finally destroy what’s left of her. Modern. Rated for language and mature themes.

Here's the link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5021454/1/Martyr

Could you tell us a little more about what you'd like to read? Which pairing, which rating, contemporary or modern setting? I haven't been reading much fanfiction lately, but I've got a lot of great stories saved on my computer. I'm also a writer myself, so maybe I can recommend you one of my own stories.

I'm pretty traditional as far as setting, in that I prefer stories set in the 19th century. I'm not strictly E/C, and don't mind other pairings as long as they're well written. I've read some lovely stories in the past involving new characters (or some with Meg, etc.). Though as it's been awhile I certainly couldn't name them! Any rating is fine, really - I'm a grown up Wink I'm pretty much a hopeless romantic, but then I think that goes for many phans!

Thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate and look forward to reading your suggestions Very Happy

(ETA: It's probably also worth noting that I'm not really a fan of the movie....)

Okay...if it's all right to do a little shameless self promotion--my stories are the traditional late 19th century setting. Most of them are E/C, but I did try my hand at an E/OW recently (Treasures of Egypt). I typically write a blend of Leroux and ALW, taking what I feel are the best from both for the specific story.

I'll simply post my ff.net profile here, and hope you see something you like. My friend Lizzy (not on this board) and I have recently started a new story. The first four chapters are now up.

I'll do a little shameless self-promotion as well, and post my FFN link.

I haven't written much in the last couple years, but at one time turned out some semi-decent phic, I'd like to think. E/C, romantic but not fluff, researched and as historically/linguistically accurate as I could manage.

Riene, where's your link. Your names looks familiar. If you're the author I'm thinking of, your stories were among the first I fell in love with when I discovered fan fiction.

This reminds me...I'm trying to remember the name of the fan fic that was massively squee'd for at PFN. The writer's name was some variation of Wandering Child and the story was movie-based. I feel like the title was one word and began with the letter D, perhaps.

I'd mostly forgotten it, but it randomly popped into my head a few days ago and searching ff.net hasn't helped...there's just too many stories to work through.

I remember reading a completely wonderful Leroux fic. There were two "explicit" chapters, but it doesn't really affect the story should you choose not read them. I'll see if I can find it for you. Smile

L'edit found three that are quite good.

for the decent phic: Oh, Christine
for the laughs: My Dear Phans
for the creepy factor: The Siren's Call

the last two are one-shots but are well done.

I am writing a book called "blackmail" which creates a fictional basis for what i believe may have inspired leroux. It is about a paris Opera worker who loses his nose and burns his face while working, the Opera then kicks him out for fear of the public finding out about hazards of the Paris opera, he hides in the catacombs disquising as a phantom and begins to write ransom letters to the manager, or else. untill he falls in love with Kristina nillson. Sad

If you think this is a good or bad idea for a story please let me know on my MP. Although i am looking foreward to publishing it. What a Face

Sorry if that is off topic, but i need some advice, my typewriter is bored.

Ok, so I'm not sure this is quite the right place to ask this, but I'm following Paula74's lead...
I'm looking for this story; I can't remember the title, author or where I found it (god help me), but I do remember one specific and unusual scene that stood out to me. Maybe someone else remembers it too....

It's going to sound very strange, but in it Christine (who was in Erik's lair) had either purposely swallowed or had been given some kind of 'pleasure drug' that I don't know, 'aroused' her, and Erik was trying to fight his own desires in figuring out how to 'relieve' her of the drug's effects. I have a feeling the story might have been Leroux-based.

I figured I'd ask here, since FF.net has changed their search facility and I'm confuzzled Crying or Very sad

Do you have a link to go with that? Or do you know what site it's from? I just checked ff.net under Books for Phantom and its not the modern day story called 'Martyr' on there... (thanks anyway, though)

I'm pretty certain the one you're looking for is Confessions of a Living Wife.

I also have to mention another favourite of mine: Wandering Child by Hamilcar.

Currently reading Shades of Black by Sanna B.

Author Summary:
A dark twisted obsession drives a man with immeasurable power to stop
at nothing to get what he wants, and what he wants is a young Christine but
will she be strong enough to confront and handle the different shades of black
that is Erik?

It is soooo good! Her Erik is dark, sadistic, seductive, sarcastic, .... it's modern day and she writes him exactly as I would imagine him.
I do wish Christine was a bit older... but, it is... what it is.

I'm looking for a fic I found ages ago that was pretty awesome... Basically, a stereotypical Gerik Phangirl (you know the type) wakes up to find that she has become Leroux's Christine, and that the Phantom isn't the charming, sexy, oh-so-misunderstood man she's been fantasizing about. I don't remember the title or author, but does anyone here know the one I'm talking about?

EDIT: Ah, never mind... Found it! Very Happy

I thought I'd give this a shot here.

A few years ago, I started a fic where while the mob is descending on Erik's lair, he has some kind of an accident and ends up with amnesia. Christine is with him and has to find a way to tell him about his face.

Anyone know the title of this story?

I read that one last year among another few, I really liked it a lot but it's set in a more modern time that's kind of dated if that makes sense. It's meant to be modern but I believe it was set in pre-cell phone days so it's not so modern anymore.

I have huge guilty pleasure love for No Return, which is a shameless abduction fantasy but is at least honest about it. The author re-released it last year and took the opportunity to update some references, I think.

So, I just totally archive binged on Roommates and Girls Next Door--good stuff, especially if you're into metafiction, weird crossovers, and insane amounts of Troping. Rather nice mix of funny and serious, too (and believe me, I was as surprised as you that "Erik and Jareth share and apartment with Javert and Commodore Norrington living next door and Christine and Sarah just upstairs" could yield any sort of legitimate drama, but there you go).

You think the UK tour people have seen this, and the whole MotN blindfold thing is foreshadowing...?

There was this one story, that goes in line with the 'abduction' fantasy. Anyway. Had to do with the Phantom being a regular guy who was disfigured. He 'discovered' the Phantom musical, makes a reproduction of the lair in his house, kidnaps his Christine, holes her up in there, then she falls in love with him. Meanwhile, she was dating the Raoul character... but she ends up treating the Raoul character like he's some a-hole with abusive issues underneath.

Does anybody remember this story?
