ALW's totally lost it.
It might have worked, but it just doesn't. Ironically, a documentary ALW did on this for British television was more interesting than any part of the musical.
Part of me wonders if it'd have been better if he had just retired like Sondheim; but I fear that he would have started to meddle badly with his back catalogue if he had done that...
Can't believe it's been over 20 years since the last truly great show he did (Sunset).
