Why do you love phantom so much?
Not sure if this fits in the land of random or somewhere else. I was speaking to someone and they asked me why I love phantom so much, what resonates in the story for me. For me it's a lot of various items, as far as the musical goes I love the scenery, the costumes, the music it all haunts me. As far as the core of the story goes when I was 11 and first saw the show I was being bullied in school a little bit and it made me feel like an outcast, so I had much relation to Erik. Occasionally I still feel a little bit like an outcast, I feel like I can get along with people but at times I still feel like I don't quite fit in or mesh when I'm hanging out with people, although I've gotten more comfortable with that. So what makes you love the story so much? Psychological aspects or otherwise. Most likely this topic has been started before here and it's not so new.

Wow -- that's all pretty much the same for me!
Bottom line, though...what I love most about Phantom, book or musical (or film?), are Erik and Christine -- their stories.

Christine is a little lonely too in the story, not in an outcast way like Erik but she is without her parents or a real family.

Well, I've always loved "Beauty and the Beast" stories (and their mythological antecedents, like Eros/Psyche and Hades/Persephone), so there's that. I do find the way that the Erik/Christine relationship skirts the line between sexy and creepy to be rather intriguing. And I like the fact that in the end it's a story about the redemptive power of love, and the ultimate triumph of compassion, mercy, and selflessness over cruelty and hatred. That's an important message for our lives, I think.
