Overall, I enjoyed it and the cast! The stand outs had to be Andrew Valera as Javert and Betsy Morgan as Fantine. The new sets really breathe life into the show. As does the new staging/blocking, too! I think, not only does it make the novel come alive, but gives the characters far more depth. One scene I did like in particular was the relationship between Gavroche and Grantaire (and his lack of disinterest towards fighting on the barricade). When Gavroche dies, you can see that from that moment on, he wants to fight for his name. There was a whole bunch of other things I enjoyed and I could go on forever. But I just thought I'd share my experience here.
Oh, the orchestrations are gorgeous as well. Little things here and there I missed, but it sounded so beautiful and it really complemented what I was watching on the stage.
Was Jason Forbach ever a Raoul? His name rings a bell, specifically a Vegas bell in my head. I feel he might have been my Raoul when I saw the Vegas production of Phantom in the summer of 2007.
Yep, thought as much! Just checked my files, he was indeed my Raoul:

Re: Les Misérables
Awesome. Didn't realize they were already filming the student scenes.
I imagine Hugh will be wearing wigs from here on out since they sheared his hair for the prologue.

More pics of Redmayne, Tveit, and the set Caine got shut out of. Not sure what scene this is. Obviously pre-barricades. Maybe Lamarque's funeral?

This article also mentions a scene was filmed in a chantry with Hathaway, Redmayne, and Seyfried, but the only scene in which those three appear together is the finale.

Re: Les Misérables
Apparently it's for "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and is Lamarque's funeral, which fits as the song comes right after the announcement of his death.

Re: Les Misérables
Ah, I thought that was probably the case. That works well. Red & Black at the students' meeting place, then pivot scenes. Love that they can do that in film.

Re: Les Misérables
An audio recording of 'Do You Hear the People Sing?' has already been leaked. Sounds awesome.
I did! I got to see him on the third day of him playing the role. He has a great voice and his acting really shined. Funny, had no idea he was a Raoul, I kept sitting through it thinking, 'You know, he'd be a pretty good Raoul!'

Re: Les Misérables
I only listened to the first half of DYHTPS (I do want SOME things to be a surprise when I see this in theaters)--just enough to assure myself that the cast will sound as great as it looks (and they will!). I love Crowe's "undercover" costume, and the kid playing Gavroche looks cute.

Re: Les Misérables
I always imagined the barricades being in a tight alley. Looks like it's in a large square, maybe the same one near the Bastille where DYHTPS takes place.
Re: Les Misérables
These have been up for awhile, but I just saw a Facebook ad for them. The movie's official FB page has several photos from the prologue that haven't shown up in news articles: https://www.facebook.com/LesMisMovie.
Re: Les Misérables
From a video I saw it looks like the final chorus reprise of 'Do You Hear...' at the end takes place on the barricade.
I keep wondering whether to venture to Greenwich to watch the filming, but I can't be bothered.
Getting very excited about this film though. I'm impressed with what I'm seeing.

Re: Les Misérables
Nope, it's the finale. Here's some footage of the filming. (I have been trying desperately not to spoil myself any further, but the temptation to assure myself Jackman sounds good singing the score--and he does--was too much to resist.)
Interesting choice for staging this scene--I have some theories on it but will have to wait to see the completed project to see if they make sense.

Re: Les Misérables
This is gonna be amazing. I thought it weird that the audio clip of DYHTPS posted earlier was of the finale's lyrics and tempo.
Re: Les Misérables
Yeah, I can't wait to hear what that sounds like with a full orchestra behind it--I already got chills when the full chorus joined in at the end! Makes me wish someone would take another crack at PotO, and do it right this time...

Amanda Seyfried as Cosette:

Re: Les Misérables
Yeah, I didn't dig that costume either. OK, so the 1830s has always been my least preferred period... But the costume and especially the wig she's wearing in that picture makes her look so drab.SenorSwanky wrote:Amanda Seyfried as Cosette:

I am right in assuming the brown drape is only a blanket worn between filming, though?
Re: Les Misérables
(chiming in because this was one of the last things I saw before my self-imposed spoiler ban) At first, I thought this was her costume for the finale and the blanket was just something she grabbed to wrap around herself before rushing to Valjean's side. However, if the timeline remains consistent and that scene takes place right after the wedding, that would indeed be a rather plain (albeit historically accurate non-white) dress for the occasion. Maybe this is for the scene when Cosette and Marius first meet? It's been years since I read the book, but I seem to recall Cosette didn't quite know what to do with her natural beauty at first so maybe the "drab" appearance is deliberate...

I should probably stop being spoiled as well. I'm amazed how much is leaking from the set, but I guess since they're shooting in open-air squares so much, it's bound to happen. Probably once they move to Pinewood, we'll be in the dark on most of the indoor scenes.
Re: Les Misérables
Evidently theater owners were presented a clip of Hathaway singing IDAD at CinemaCon.

So yeah, that looks great. Hathaway sounds good from what I can tell with the bad sound quality--passionate but without sacrificing too much tone. Also Seyfried looks much nicer than in those paparazzi shots from a few weeks back, and the shots of Valjean and young Cosette were too sweet for words.

This is gonna be so good. This isn't a theatrical trailer, but the teaser that was shown at the CinemaCon for theater owners.
