Phantom of the Paradise
Brian De Palma's satirical Phantom/Faust mash-up is coming to blu-ray:

Apparently this is the tricked-out, full bells and whistles release previously available on DVD in France.

Re: Phantom of the Paradise
Okay, I have never seen this film. But Paul Williams is my Muppet-lyric writing hero. [Being the muppet geek that I am, he wrote some awesome lyrics for the original Muppet Movie, A Muppet Christmas Carol, and Letters to Santa.] I am kind of scared of seeing him as the Phantom? I mean, he's not that good lookin of a guy, but I guess his face gets pressed in a record machine?

Williams doesn't play the Phantom character (that's William Finley), but a Mephistopholes-like record producer named Swan. Yeah, I had a hard time picturing Paul Williams as the devil too, but he gives it a good go. The movie is worth seeing for the weird cheese of it all.

I still need to see this one... I have the soundtrack, and love it to death. Then again, the only POTO film soundtrack I can recall not absolutely loving is the one for the 2004 movie... but I don't think I'm alone in that here.

Re: Phantom of the Paradise
Actor William Finley - who played the Phantom in this version - passed away on April 14.
So far, the only obituaries I've seen are in French. Here's one:
