Other Movies/Shows Costume Appreciation Thread - PIC HEAVY
Since we have such a thriving Phantom-themed costume thread in the ALW Musical section, I thought it might be apropos for us to have a separate thread for the posting and admiring of all the gorgeous costumes we've seen and admired in other movies, musicals, operas, etc.
So, I'll get things started with some lovely new promo shots of Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Haversham in the upcoming remake of Great Expectations.

Don't you just love that decaying elegance look?
Super Hi Res versions and more info available here: http://www.deadline.com/2011/11/first-look-helena-bonham-carter-as-miss-havisham-in-%E2%80%98great-expectations%E2%80%99/
So go ahead, ladies and gents, show and share the pretty!

I love the antique look they've managed, the feeling of something decaying. Or cobweb. IMDB doesn't say who the costume designer is, but surely it must be Colleen Atwood (Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, Sleepy Hollow etc)? At least it looks like something she could have designed.

Another up and coming film that caught my eye with its promise of costume goodness is the upcoming Snow White film helmed by Tarsem Singh:
Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen:

And Lily Collins as Snow White:

Costumes for the film were designed by Eiko Ishioka (Bram Stoker's Dracula).

Re: Other Movies/Shows Costume Appreciation Thread - PIC HEAVY
I dig Eiko Ishioka and her symbolism... but I'm so tired of costumes based on/inspired by/in the style of queen Elizabeth I. All evil or larger-than-life queen costumes in Hollywood movies seems to be based on her in some way or another (not to speak of the many movies and TV series about the queen herself). It's like she's the only cool queen in history.
I'm personally looking forward to "The Mill and the Cross". Mostly because they've dared to dress people plain and fairly historical correct, and because the plot sounds intriguing. But then again, seeing tableaus and paintings recreated has always fascinated me. A very large picture of a big chunk of the cast can be seen here:

That photos you linked really does look like a painting, Anea. Also, historically-accurate costuming can be pretty impressive in its own right.
Anyhow, in response to your frustration, one Not-inspired-by-Elizabeth-I Queen coming right up!
Monica Bellucci in The Brothers Grimm, costumes by Gabriella Pescucci and Carlo Poggioli.

And less the gentlemen feel as though I'm neglecting them, I present Gabriel Byrne, Jeremy Irons, and Gerard Depardieu in the much under-appreciated (well, at least in my opinion...) Man in the Iron Mask (yes, the one that had Leonardo di Caprio in it - his costumes were nice, too, but I didn't save pics. May post them later). Costumes by James Acheson.

Alright, off to Mass before I hijack this thread any further.

Wonderful thread! I really like the fairytale-inspired look of (admittedly uneven and chaotic) Brothers Grimm. Vampire queen in her red dress was the best!

I love the costuming on the ABC show Once Upon a Time (to be really general about it, it takes place in a fairytale world and in a present day small town). Since it's Disney, they can adapt the princess costumes from the animated films. One thing I love about this is how awesome it is to see how they change it up while still keeping elements of the "original" (except for Snow White, but I did a whole TUmblr rant about that already):
Cinderella:

Belle:

Snow White:

Evil Queen (who spends her fairytale scenes strutting around like a badass dominatrix):

Re: Other Movies/Shows Costume Appreciation Thread - PIC HEAVY
So I'm thinking of going ambitious this year for Halloween and making the ball gown from Labyrinth (and a striped sleeper for Sean so he can go as Toby!). I'm thinking of using Truly Victorian's TV244 and TV442 as the bases and reusing the underpinnings from my Belle costume, but if anyone else has other suggestions I'm open to them!

I love look of Dance of the vampires (1967) and Sharon Tate“s red ball-gown - they are so brilliantly Gothic and romantic!
