Re: Hugh Panaro review
Oh wow!
Thanks for sharing your review of Hugh's performances, FdelOpera -- I enjoyed reading it! Glad you got a chance to see the new Christine and Raoul too. Hopefully Mary Michael Patterson will grow into the role more over time.
From reading your Phantom reviews, I can always picture everything so clearly in my mind...how you're able to write in such detail still amazes me.

Hi NightRachel! Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you enjoyed my review! I love writing them, as it allows me to relive the show, and it helps me preserve my memory of the performance.NightRachel wrote:Oh wow!

I also hope that Mary Michael Patterson grows into the role. She has only been with the company for about a month and a half, and she'd been principal Christine for less than a week when I first saw her on August 30, so I have cut her some slack in my description. I just found that there were several acting/staging choices that she made that I didn't like, though these will probably change with time.
Though it is no secret that I am not a Raoul fan, I really did enjoy Jeremy Hays' performance. He has the makings of a very strong Raoul. I may not be partial to the character that he plays, but that in no way detracts from the fact that I think that he is an excellent actor and has a lovely voice (in fact, to be quite honest, an actor playing Raoul has to be pretty phenomenal to distract me from my process of mentally cataloguing the various things that the Erik actor has been doing during that show). There is a moment that Jeremy does particularly well in Notes II, right before "We have all been blind" when Erik's voiceover is narrating his letter that Mme. Giry is reading ("As for Miss Christine Daae...") -- Jeremy turns upstage, freezes, and then his breathing rate increases, and he seems physically affected by the idea of using Christine as bait. Then he turns back downstage and has this look of distracted epiphany in his eyes as he starts in with "We have all been blind..." It really looks like he is formulating the plan as he is saying it -- very good acting.

Oh yes, I'm not a Raoul fan either (as you know, FdelOpera) but I do appreciate certain actors in the role more than others, and I do hope I get to see Jeremy's portrayal, esp since you've given him a favorable review. I was not really a fan of Kyle's performances in the role, and he was in the show for so long, I was waiting for a new actor to take over, and it sounds like we got a good one in Jeremy.
