- Avenue Q -
Just heard that Gary Coleman's passed away. So what will they do in Q all over the world? Make Gary Coleman a generic character as it was originally intended in London (before they did away with that idea and made it like Broadway)?
Re: - Avenue Q -
Having seen the tour last night, I can say the answer is...nothing. There's no indication that the action takes place before Coleman's death (other than the fact that he's in the show, obviously) nor is it ever referred to. This is a little uncomfortable, but I can see where changing such a major role would be more trouble than it's worth.
That said, I absolutely loved this show! It was gut-busting hilarious yet very sweet at times, too. I also really respect the puppeteers for being able to switch roles (in some cases acting with themselves) with such speed and ease.

Apparently in Hungary they have Michael Jackson instead of Gary Coleman!

Oh, dear. I saw a post regarding that on Broadway World--I thought it was a joke.....
Why do they insist on these bowdlerized productions? If your school has issues with this sort of thing, maybe you should be doing Oklahoma! instead. (Or not, there's some pretty serious sexual subtext in there too...)

Wow, that's just...
Seriously, why bother doing Q if they're going to change it that much? It's not like any of the HS kids are "supposed" to have heard of it anyway, so I doubt they'd get a significantly larger audience than if they did another show (especially once people found out it was such a heavily censored version). The whole point of doing this show is that it's meant to be raunchy; otherwise, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular. So yeah... mini-rant over.

Precisely. There are some shows that shouldn't be released for school productions. What's next? "Hello Again: The High School Edition"?IamErik771 wrote:The whole point of doing this show is that it's meant to be raunchy; otherwise, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular.
