Re: Les Misérables
Wow, that sounds incredible! (Both the scene itself and the fact you got to be part of it.) Thanks for sharing!

Icelandic Recording.
Recently I flew over to Reykjavik to see a magnificent production of Les Mis as the National Theatre. The production was a huge non-replica version and the entire cast was amazing, headed by the brilliant Thor Kristinsson as Valjean. Permission for a recording was granted, but the record company pulled out due to lack of funding. We're trying to get this changed, as so many people would like a CD. If you're a Miz fan or of musicals in general, please could you join this FB group as we need as many people as we can to try and get the recording made. Thanks in advance. https://www.facebook.com/groups/284361981661906/

Ah, thank you for your insider info of your time spent on the set.
I'm so excited for this film. I feel like it's going to be in good hands.

Re: Les Misérables
From today's Daily Mail:
Sierra Boggess, who will join the West End production of Les Miserables as Fantine some time in the summer.
She will take over the part from Caroline Sheen, who has announced that she and husband Michael Jibson are ‘delighted’ that they are expecting their first child. Ms Sheen will leave the company on June 29.
Ms Boggess, so good in Love Never Dies, is still negotiating her start date as Fantine at the Queen’s Theatre.
She became available when a show she was supposed to do in New York with the legendary Hal Prince, nicknamed the Prince Of Broadway, was postponed. Tam Mutu, Danielle Hope and Linzi Hateley join Les Mis at the Queen’s from June 18.

If you just address it to the Queen's Theatre, it should get there. Address is 51 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1D 6BA. I suppose if you wanted to be extra sure you could always address another specifically to the Stage Door which is located on Winnett St (use the same W1 postcode). If it helps, the telephone number of the Stage Door is (+44)(0)20 7292 1350.
Apparently Byron Nease sang 'Bring Him Home' to President Obama yesterday.

No idea. I assume it would have something to do with it being 4th July, or July 4, as you say over there.

True! I wonder if that's the only relic of the European date system that you use over there? Don't you normally say [Month]+[Date Number] over there (e.g. September 11)?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Not sure why.Scorp wrote:SenorSwanky wrote:4th of July, we usually call it.

Maybe because it was the first date worth remembering in the US, and because it became tradition early on, the way it's been said never changed. My theory anyway. Ironic, really, considering that if any date were to be said in the American way rather than in the manner of the country's coloniser, you'd think that would be it. We do seem to like going off-topic, don't we?

As far as going O/T, I don't know why people get so sensitive about that as long as it flows from something relevant. I hate when people post new threads that could've been organized in an existing thread or when people bring up totally irrelevant stuff out of the blue, but if you segue from Les Mis to the quirks of language naturally, what's the big deal? That's conversation. It happens in real life; why not on a frickin' message board?

Thanks, so should I address it like this?

Re: Les Misérables
If it's to a specific cast member, I would put that in an own envelope, with the person's full name written on, inside a larger envelope with the address:Callie Daae wrote:Thanks, so should I address it like this?
(Actress's name)
Stage Door
Shaftesbury Avenue
London W1D 6BA
United Kingdom
Queen's Theatre
Att: Stage Manager

Addressing it to the stage manager can often be helpful for the theatre, so it doesn't end up at the office, and then having to be distributed from there. It doesn't hurt to leave a small note to the stage manager, asking him/her to forward it to the specific person, and also thanking him/her for the kind service.
As for going off topic, I agree. Most people know how to behave themselves. I think it's good for the dynamic of a topic to ramble a bit. Admins will get the topic back on track if/when needed, but for the most it happens automatically.

Oh good, I like conversations being spontaneous and organic. Over at poto.com I think they're a lot more strict about people digressing from whatever the topic of the thread is supposed to be, which scares me a bit.
So I assume Callie is writing to Sierra Boggess?

Re: Les Misérables
Anne Hathaway's making the rounds promoting The Dark Knight Rises, and she puts in a few words for Les Mis as well: Article
Interesting choice pushing IDAD back so it comes after Fantine's complete degradation. Makes her raw performance even more appropriate, I think.

Re: Les Misérables
I hadn't realized her mom had played Fantine or even that her mom was a musical performer.
Re: Les Misérables
Empire magazine had a neat article on the film. Someone posted a scan on BroadwayWorld: http://broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1048890&dt=13
Re: Les Misérables
The movie gets a featured article in EW's fall preview issue. Scans are here and include some awesome new pics (including a nice one of Valjean coming to Fantine's aid).

Guess this best belongs here. A bunch of Broadway performers I haven't heard of got together to do a parody of the Republican Party and rallying cry for Obama's re-election, set to One Day More: https://youtu.be/0WHw32bv9BQ

I suppose this means they don't have a release date for the soundtrack yet. Shoot.
