anyone who wants to visit a far away land or can recommend anything in their town?

I would love to of course visit the Paris Opera House, and Mackinac Island, Michigan
I would also love to visit Europe., The Hearst Castle

Akron, Ohio is not much of a super town like New York, Akron Ohio does have Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, A huge Manor that was built by the Seiberling Family, they were the ones that made Akron the Rubber capital of the world.

I studied at u of akron. Sadly, I didn't much care for it. I currently live about 1.5 hours south of Akron.

I have always wanted to visit Greece. Other locales that have sparked my interest more recently would be Iceland, Nova Scotia, Alaska, and Hawaii.

not a lot of people care for Akron, I do, while it does not have the excitement of New York or Las Vegas, it has some good qualities, a huge amount of Parks and Recreational, (Mind You it is no Yoesmite Park) but still beautiful,

not much of a night life, not a huge amount of stuff to do. I will try not to put my home town down, it has some possibilities not many.

Oooh boy, where do I even start? Hawaii, Alaska, New Orleans, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, too many places in Europe to even count...so many beautiful places in the world, so little time. My husband and I are talking about doing a trip through the Canadian Rockies next year (if we decide we can manage it with our kid), so that's a start. Laughing

Places I'd recommend for anyone visiting Colorado:

Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park: The Rockies at their best, elk that come right down into town (bit of a nuisance, actually), and the Stanley Hotel (inspiration for The Shining), among other things.

Red Rocks: Probably the most beautiful concert venue in this part of the world.

Pikes Peak: See the view that inspired "America the Beautiful."

Glenwood Springs: Wonderful hot springs pool, and a gorgeous town all around. My high school show choir stayed in the Hotel Colorado my senior year--wonderful old hotel!

And of course, Denver: Coors Field, Invesco Field, the DCPA, Denver Art Museum, Museum of Nature and Science, the Capitol and City and County Building, the mint...I could go on and on about my beloved Mile High City.

Thinking of taking a year out in 2011-2012 to go to a few places I've been dying to go to for quite a while now, namely New Zealand and parts of South America I've not been to...Bolivia, Chile and Argentina outside of Buenos Aires... I'd really like to go to Norway at some point soon as well.

-Stark Industries
-Daily Bugle
-Avengers Tower
-Fantastic Four Sky-Scraper-Thinga-ma-jig

and

-Peter Parkers' House

I really want to travel to the UK and Scotland. Banburgh Castle is absolutely gorgeous. And I know most people would love to be in the city, I'd rather spend some time in the countryside. Its so pretty! I want to visit a moor! And I want to stay in a country house and have a country meal.

I'd also like to visit California, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Very Happy

Isn't it?! I saw it in a TV Show that had to do with Robin Hood, and every time they show the far away shot of that castle, I flip out. Such a gorgeous place.

Well, for place I want to go...Paris is an obvious choice as a fan of Phantom and Pere Lachaise is one place I've always wanted to see. Also, I'd love to visit Sicily. Much of my family came from the slopes of Mount Etna near Catania. I'm fascinated by Sicilian culture and definitely want to go there some day.

One place I highly recommend visiting is Seattle. I really only flew out there to see Hugh in Company, but I absolutely LOVED it there. A fun, friendly city...worth the trip just to check out the Pike Place Market alone.

My mom is pursuing alimony from my father (If you haven't heard about my personal drama, check out the SOAPBOX topic.) and is setting that money aside for fabulous vacations for myself, my mom and sister. Possible vacations we've discussed include;

-New York (I HAVE to see Phantom while Hugh is still there or I will jump off the empire state building)
-San Francisco
-Italy
-Hawaii
-Cruise to the bahamas
-Big Bear (because my sister is 18 years old and has never seen snow)

New York is FOR SURE at this moment, for late 2011. We've started looking at hotels and what not and once we have an official date I'll be looking for Phantom tickets. I've never seen Hugh Panaro before and Anthony Crivello has simply RUINED me for other Phantoms <3 (He's THAT amazing if you've been contemplating going to Vegas)

I also would love to see Saturday Night Live. Or at least tour 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Any one have any cool New York tips or hot spots to recommend?

For a while I've been toying with the idea of taking a trans-American Amtrak trip (LA to Chicago, Cicago to NY). I think it'd be a really nice way to see the country... Takes around 4 days, I think, and you can get a small private cabin (roomette) to just sit & read & drink your way across the country. Must be some spectacular scenery.

Only thing holding me back is lack of motivation on my part (i.e. laziness) and the fact that I get contradictory advice about the quality of Amtrak. I've heard that passenger rail travel in the US is somewhat deprecated and relegated behind freight in relative importance... But people who've taken the trip seem to have enjoyed it.

For a while I was considering the classic road trip, just driving all the way! But when you actually plan it out, you really need 3 weeks unless you want to be driving stupid distances every day and I think that'd just become a chore. Also, somewhat dubious of automatic gearboxes and driving on the wrong side of the road!

Sorry to hear about your personal family troubles, Alyssa.

I've been to NYC a couple of times, I live south of San Francisco, and I used to live in Italy, so I can give you a few travel tips for those locales. But let's just stick with NYC for now:

- NBC offers a tour of 30 Rock. Go to http://www.nbcstudiotour.com/ for details.
- Saturday Night Live tickets are by lottery and you have no control over the date, BUT if you want to try for stand-by tickets (which apparently means waiting in line at 7am the day of the show), that's possible if you have the time.
- Angus McIndoe (right across the street from The Majestic) is a great restaurant for a pre-show dinner. I'd also recommend brunch at the Central Park Boathouse.
- A trip to any of New York City's museums is always a great way to spend the day, or if you just want to kick back and people-watch, you may want to hang out in Bryant Park.
- If you happen to time your trip properly, you may even get to see one of Broadway's Bryant Park or Broadway on Broadway concerts or buy actual musical theatre props and other trinkets at the Broadway Flea Market.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure there are NYC locals here that can also give you good advice.

A bit random to be reviving this thread with this question, but I need your help (especially Londoners), since google is failing to help me.

From next Thursday I'll be in London again, and I just found out the last Harry Potter film premiere will take place in Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square that day. And I need to go to the TKTS booth... Is there anywhere I can find about road closures and traffic disruptions in general because of this premiere? I have a feeling it will be slightly crazy out there that day... HELP! affraid
