Re: Rare pictures 2
operafantomet wrote:The Belgian production of Phantom seems to be the least succesfull one and the least featured one. Why I don't know. They had a mighty good Phantom and an overall good cast, the production looked splendid, and they used the solid Dutch lyrics, with some alternations to make it more fit for a Flemish audience. And yet they played for what... less than a year? And the production seem to have left few traces, both in Belgium and in the world of phans. I just wonder why.
To give it some well deserved attention, here are a couple of pictures, most taken from the souvenir brochure which a fan was kind enough to scan some years ago. And which I want badly!!
The cast is Hans Peter Janssen (Phantom), Susanne Duwe (Christine), Ineke van Klinken (alt. Christine) and Michael Shawn Lewis (Raoul). Oh yes, MSL was there too...
AUCTION
A cool picture of the Auction scene. I hope it's from Belgium, it's ages since I saved these photos...
THE SOUVENIR BROCHURE
HANNIBAL
Final pose in Hannibal. The skirt Carlotta wears later ended up in Copenhagen. But with a better underskirt....
COOL UNDERSTUDIES
Two notable understudies - Janine Kitzen as Christine, Robert A. Pitcher as Raoul. The former became principal Christine in the Stuttgart production some years later. The latter is the brother of seasoned US Christine Rebecca Pitcher.
MICHAEL SHAWN LEWIS
Michael Shawn Lewis as Raoul. He's got the cutest face.
PRIMA DONNA
Piangi: William Lynn Dixon, Firmin: Ernst van Looy, Carlotta: An Lauwreins, Raoul: Michael Shawn Lewis, Madame Giry: Stephanie Tschöppe, André: Marc Meersman, Meg Giry: Sophie Kiddle.
I think the b/w Carlotta dress also ended up in Copenhagen. The one they used in Stockholm (where the Copenhagen production got most of their costumes from) was very different, made of a floral black/white fabric in the bodice, and with a white V in front. Both the Belgian and Danish ones has those looped frogs which was in use for a short time in European versions, and the fabrics seems the same.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE BELGIUM SCANS!!!
I too would really love to get my hands on this brochure, I feel your pain. ;-)
Re: Rare pictures 2
Very happy you liked the Belgian scans, Devon! I should repeat I got them from someone else years ago, I just cannot remember who. Thanks to whoever made them!
I've been wanting to post this for ages... Ladies and gentlemen, the most versatile Kimilee Bryant. From what I've been told, she's played all female parts in Phantom in the US, except Meg Giry/ballet girl and possibly the confidante. But Christine, Carlotta, Madame Giry, Madame Firmin, Hannibal princess, Wild woman, Gaulouise, Autumn, Fan lady.... You name it and you bet. She also played Christine in Switzerland and in Canada. Go Bryant!
Kimilee Bryant in Switzerland, with Ute Baum and Björn Olsson.
Kimilee Bryant in Canada, with Paul Stanley and Laird Mackintosh.
Kimilee Bryant as Christine in the US (both on tour and on Broadway).
Kimilee Bryant as Carlotta (both on tour and on Broadway).
The show must go on....
Just to clarify: most of these pictures came from the now removed blog/diary over at Kimilee Bryant's official site. She was very active there when she was still with the tour, and shared photos from basically each stop and of every role she played. The blog is no longer there, but since the photos has already been published, I see no harm in sharing them here.

Ooooh, hadn't seen most of these before. Too bad they're so small, they are lovely. I like how the US tour allowed photographers from various papers to document the show, if only for the first couple of scenes. The photos are so much more alive than the posed Broadway ones (though the last batch was cool, as they at least varied the poses...).ladygodiva wrote:US tour Atlanta

Does anybody happen to have an unedited version of this photo?
Alfred Pfeifer and Joke de Kruijf, Vienna 1993
And here's a lovely picture of Claudia Dallinger, the original Vienna alt. Christine:

Alas no, but how funny you should ask. I have one of Joke de Kruijf which I'm certain is from Vienna (they had odd Star Princess tiaras there), and I was about to ask if anyone has the unedited version. Seems like a new batch of Joke de Kruijf photos from Vienna has showed up somewhere, and good quality too. But where?TheFinnishPhantom wrote:Does anybody happen to have an unedited version of this photo?

I've already blabbered and squeed enough about the Viennese production on this forum!
I got that Pfeifer picture from a fan made cover for a one-of-those-things I've gotten recently. I've got quite many covers made by that mysterious person..
And I've found the maker of that Steve/Joke/JOJ, pic, I just sent her a question about it.

I promised pictures from the Swedish program (playbill) some while ago. Here they are:
Mikael Samuelson in the Palais Garnier.
1. Mikael Samuelson as Red Death.
2. Mikael Samuelson and Tua Åberg, original Swedish alternate.
3. An ad in the program, explaining how the dry ice works!
4. A graphic of the Oscarsteatern facade.
5. Per Engström, conductor in both Stockholm and Copenhagen. Oh Per...
1. Prima Donna. I recognize Hans Dornbusch as Piangi, Anette Stridh as Carlotta and (I think) Martina Langas as Meg Giry. Are we talking the original cast? Raoul looks more like Jan Kyhle than Bengt Nordfors, but I can't tell for sure.
2. Inger Olsson Moberg and Jan Kyhle, ca. 1994. Click to enlarge - it's rather good quality.

LOL, I always buy AGA dry ice for my mad scientist experiments! I have to admit I once filled my apartment with candles and AGA-mist and whirled around with a cape and fedora.
Thanks for the pictures!

First sitzprobe on "Singing in the Rain" at Det Ny Teater. But you can see why I post it here, right?
Their "Sceneriet" is a kind of ballroom and also small stage, and contains props and costumes from various of their earlier productions. In the upper right corner a dismantled Hannibal elephant (just to get some more space, I would think, the head is usually on), in upper left corner the golden angel, and behind it one of the dummies from Masquerade (the black guy with a gold crown). Also, in center there's conductor Per Engström. Though they don't usually keep HIM down there.

Sure, sure, of course Anea!
And, I love the original Hamburg cast. I don't know, maybe because of the decade the pictures were taken, I get the feel like the show was real. As if it [the story] actually took place. I love the crisp ones now, but there is something so enchanting on looking at the old photographs for all the original productions from the 80's/early 90's. Thanks for posting them, guys!

I love the Viennese Star Princess tiaras, but those are just so unnoticeable. I love the big ones from Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Someone told me, that they´ve tried the common tiaras during dress rehearsals but they made Luzia Nistler look too tall (esp. next to Alfred Pfeifer as Raoul in Masquerade) and once they´ve settled for those tiaras every Viennese Christine had to wear them. And because of their heights Luzia Nistler and orig. understudy Claudia Dallinger were the only Christine´s (at least in Vienna) who didn´t change their ballet shoes during Angel of Music (this time because of Alexander Goebel)

If you have an account at Photobucket, Imageshark, Flickr or another place, you upload the pictures there. You can either use the direct link and post it here, or you can get a link ending with .jpg and put IMG ( [ img ] ) tags around it.SweetChristine wrote:How can I upload the photos?
Stagehand, those pics are fantastic! I had never seen any of them before. I wanna scream MORE MORE MORE, but I'll try to behave... Haha.
As for the tiaras, I can see what they mean... sorta... but they could have come up with something in between instead of the flat "laurel" ones the Christines used for both Hannibal and Masquerade. They are rather pointless.
