Actually I took that screenshot myself. As a fellow Kiss fan I just watched the CNN segments and totally missed that you had already posted it, my bad!SenorSwanky wrote:I made that screencap and posted it in the Toronto thread last week. Is it passing around the Internet now?

Oh wow, we got the exact same shot (which makes sense, since it was only that zoomed-in for the blink of an eye, then they started zooming out and panning away).
Also, glad to have a fellow KISS fan on the board.

Did I ever post this? Curtain call at The Majestic in NYC in August.
Impossible to tell, of course, but the leads were Hugh Panaro, Marni Raab, Kyle Barisich and Michele McConnell. And of course legendary George Lee Andrews and David Cryer. And Marilyn Caskey.

Wow! Nice angle. Why can't my camera take good pics like this instead of the blurry rubbish it usually gives me? I think I will have to get a decent one in the January sales.

Thats like where I sat back in April in the box, was such a nice seat, so close and you can see into the wings and watch the orchestra play

I'd love to try the show at that angle, but I wouldn't like seeing into the pit or the wings. Well, it'd be interesting, but not if I were trying to enjoy the performance and melt into the experience rather than think about the technical aspects. That's what backstage tours are for.

That is too cool! I loved that box seat. I would avoid the boxes closest to site like grim death (well, if you wanna see what happens on stage....), but the ones furthest away was wonderful. Good overall view of the stage, but still very close. I liked it a lot better than my stall seat, and it was a lot cheaper. How cool you also sat there.Thats like where I sat back in April in the box, was such a nice seat, so close and you can see into the wings and watch the orchestra play
Scorp, the picture was taken with a plain Canon Ixus compact camera. Really, the cheapest sort. You just have to set the camera for indoor light, in manual settings, and turn off the flash. Flash kills the rich colours of the auditorium. Oh, and have a steady hand, or something to lean the camera/hand on.
Re: Rare pictures 2
This is a cool picture I have never seen before (apologize if it has already been shared) by a Phantom friend on Facebook:

I've never seen that one either, would love to see it!! Hopefully someone on the forum has it and can post. :-)

Elizabeth Loyacano has one of the coolest Christine looks I know of.
From her official web site, though found through Glass Prism's Tumblr:

I would absolutely love to see this picture if it exists!
Devon, some of the other board members and I were discussing that photo you posted and we decided that it looks like Sophia Escobar and Earl Carpenter - albeit very airbrushed. It reminded me a lot of this promo image from the 2004 film:
Operafantomet, those are some *great* shots of Elizabeth! She looks radiant in the role. Thanks for posting! *saves*

Re: Rare pictures 2
I think we're talking Earl Carpenter and Leila Benn Harris. If I remember correctly, she was the main Christine along with Robyn North when that picture was published. They never used it at HMT, but it could be seen on bus stops etc. around London. Anyhow, it was in use before Sofia Escobar was cast as Christine.Madame Giry wrote:Devon, some of the other board members and I were discussing that photo you posted and we decided that it looks like Sophia Escobar and Earl Carpenter - albeit very airbrushed.
Compare the "Twilight/movie/LND" picture to the one where Leila Benn Harris leans towards the wall... Very similar.
Glad you liked the Loyacano ones. So many gorgeous pictures in her site! And I really love how she looks in wig and costume. Very characteristic and beautiful look.
Re: Rare pictures 2
Wow, has Raph seen that LBH PonR photo?
It's very, ah... expressive.
And thanks for the correction about the ID of the Christine in that promo pic.

Re: Rare pictures 2
Question is: has he seen that pose in action? I know both Robyn North and Leila Benn Harris did it, as well as Gina Beck early on. Don't know if it's still done. But it was sensual, to say the least! I was very happy to see it captured in a souvenir brochure picture. But I'm not sure Raphael would survive it...Madame Giry wrote:Wow, has Raph seen that LBH PonR photo?

ETA: random scans from the RAH brochure. It's very difficult to scan it...
1. One of several pages on Maria Bjørnson and her design for Phantom.
2. The design collages for the RAH sets.
3. Ramin Karimloo AND the chandelier design/graphics used as background for bios.
4. Ad for those making masks for the West End production. That looks a lot like Katie Hall!
Re: Rare pictures 2
I don't know. Why doesn't someone point me in the direction of a video clip and let's find out?operafantomet wrote:Question is: has he seen that pose in action? Now you know why few have posted scans from it. You practically have to destroy the spine in order to get shadow-free scans of the pages!ETA: random scans from the RAH brochure. It's very difficult to scan it...

Hm. You know, I saw that ad in my RAH program but I never quite made the connection that the mask on the left is the Mirror Bride mask. How interesting. I wonder if this company makes the Red Death mask for the production, too? Odd choice using the Mirror Bride mask as an advertising piece. It just seems kinda generic in comparison to the Phantom's mask or the Red Death mask.

Very distinctive nose on his mask. It actually reminds me of the profile of Mikael Samuelson's mask in Stockholm.thephanfullerton wrote:For some reason, I really like the look of Flemming Enevold's mask here:

I'm personally drooling more over the silhouette of that Aminta skirt... I love that version. A lot.
As for other stuff... I love the Hungarian graveyard, especially during the "I gave you my music":
And Raphael, no link! I don't want to give you a heart attack.
Re: Rare pictures 2
Applies arts also has a rather nice shot of Ramin in the mask too. It would be nice if they make the red death ones, but somehow I have my doubts, they seem to be using on in London for ever that doesn't work properly, they should have fixed/repaired it a long time ago (basically it almost always hangs there with the mouth open, yet it opens more when the Phantom speaks, but it doesn't really close properly like it used to or the ones all over the world do) I hate what they were using in the concert.

Re: Rare pictures 2
Cause I'm bored.... the Copenhagen Christines:
Susanne Elmark. Legit opera singer, fantastic voice, and she looked lovely in the part. She was Christine on the opening night in 2000, and stayed until spring 2001. She's the Christine in the Danish promo recording of the title song, along with Flemming Enevold, and later she also recorded "All I Ask of You" (in English) with Stig Rossen. Is said to be one of the tallest Christines in the world, being 180 cm (5,11"), so much that it worried RUG. But both Phantoms and the Raoul was taller than her, so I guess it worked out well. She usually performed opposite Flemming Enevold.
Hanne Damm. She shared the role 50/50 with Susanne Elmark when the show opened in 2000. She stayed longer than Elmark, though, until spring of 2002, if I remember correctly. She was a total newcomer in the musical world, and got a "best new talent" award as Christine. Little has been heard of her since alas. She was the first Christine I really noticed, live her voice rang beautifully in the auditorium and she seemed like such a passionate and strong willed Christine. She usually performed opposite Peter Jorde.
Viktoria Krantz (Tocca). She took over for Susanne Elmark when she left, and she also inherited most of her costumes as they were both tall women. Of Swedish origin, she missed the auditions first time around, and kept in touch with them in case a position should open. And it did. She shared the role with Hanne Damm for some time, then Agnete Munk Rasmussen. Her Christine showed such a nice transaction from 1st to 2nd act, and she had quite the chemistry with Peter Jorde, whom she usually performed with. I saw them multiple times, and would LOVE to see them again. She had a light and warm voice too.
Agnete Munk Rasmussen. Also a legit opera singer. She starred with Viktoria Krantz when the Danish production re-opened in the autumn of 2003. She had a grand voice, too grand I thought at first, but she soon grew on me. She added nice trills and vocal details here and there, I really loved that. Like Damm, a strong-willed Christine. Josefine recalled she used to hit the pillows in the boat with her fists during "Down once more", to display her anger. Like! She usually performed opposite Preben Kristensen.
Mia Karlsson. She started as a swing in 2000. She understudied Krantz and Rasmussen in the autumn of 2003, and was even bumped to principal in the last week or two because Rasmussen had a prior engagement at an opera house in Germany. Mia Karlsson got to perform the very last performance in 2003, and incidentally the very first one in 2009, when she was principal Christine along with Teresia Bokor. Mia Karlsson did the most intuitive and beautiful portrayal I've seen, and had a gorgeous voice to match. She remains my favourite Christine. Like, totally unrivaled. She usually performed opposite Preben Kristensen, though I've seen her a couple of times with Flemming Enevold and Peter Jorde too.
Teresia Bokor. Another legit opera singer in the role, and what a voice! Like honey. And so petite. Even in high heels. Quite a contrast to her tall Phantoms and tall Raoul AND tall Carlotta. Her Christine seemed to happy to perform, it was a joy to watch. Also played a Christine with a back-bone, and opposite Flemming Enevold's manneristic Phantom she sported many a bruised wrist and knee the first couple of weeks... (NOT in a dramatic lawsuit-way, though... just two actors giving it all on stage). She usually performed opposite Flemming Enevold, and when he left with Peter Jorde. Yeah, stick her with the tallest guy you have...
Emma Lindqvist (Frost). She was understudy Christine in 2009. Alas she never got to perform the role, but she did a nice Princess/Mirror Bride/Triange Girl track, and had fun with varying her Mirror Bride reactions every night. The goal was to get at least one in the audience to jump. Haha!
Eva Malmgren, who played Carlotta in 2003 and 2009, also understudied Christine in 2002. Apparently the performances goes almost undocumented. I haven never seen pictures of her as Christine, and never even heard rumours of illegal recordings of it. Though she didn't like to go on as Christine I can only imagine how lovely she must have been in the part. But she felt the score was too low for her, and that she didn't sing it well. Other Christine understudies in Copenhagen were Malin Landing (also a later Carlotta!) and Helen Geerts.
Susanne Elmark. Legit opera singer, fantastic voice, and she looked lovely in the part. She was Christine on the opening night in 2000, and stayed until spring 2001. I don't know much on the Copenhagen production, so I find it all very interesting. Out of interest, on the topic of your awsome Picture blocks with multiple images in them ( I don't know what to call them), would it be possible to perhaps see a couple of them for the phantoms Scott Davies and Peter Karrie, please?
I finally managed to scan some of the double pages from the Manchester brochure, but they have been cut a bit. Sorry about size and random red border. I'm sure there is some way to see them full size. Here they are:

Lovely review operafantomet! It's a nice introduction for those of us (or is it just me?) who are still getting to know German and Scandinavian productions.
Just a question: what do you mean by Mia Karlsson's "intuitive Christine"? I would love to learn more about it!

Re: Rare pictures 2
I bought a coffee table book about ALW a few months ago with a photo on the cover that I had never seen before, of Lord Andy in front of the proscenium and in-process stage. I'd seen all the other pictures in the book, but several were larger than I'd ever seen them before. I did my best to scan a couple of them, plus the cover, although I'm afraid the quality isn't as great as I'd hoped. I'll try to scan some more soon anyway, if I have the time.
Re: Rare pictures 2
I like that book a lot. The chapter about Phantom (and pre-Phantom) is quite interesting. At least I remember thinking so years ago. And that cover is epic. Your scan is actually the first good scan I've seen of it. My local library carries the book, but they've put stuff on the cover which made it pointless to scan...phantomgirl110 wrote:I bought a coffee table book about ALW a few months ago with a photo on the cover that I had never seen before, of Lord Andy in front of the proscenium and in-process stage. Re: Rare pictures 2
I remember when I got that book years ago, I got it just for the cover really, lol, back then you almost never saw pics of the proscenium.
Re: Rare pictures 2
That cover picture was the main reason I wanted it, lol. I found it at a used bookstore for $25 and wasn't willing to shell out the cash, but when that store went down I found it at a different one nearby for only $7. I found a copy of the Hildebrandt illustrated Leroux novel at the same time, also $7. It was a good day.
