Found this pic of the lost dress on facebook. It's from the US tour years ago.

Cool picture, thanks for sharing!
On a random note: I just noticed most Madame Girys wears black, hanging earrings. I can't believe I've never seen that detail before!

Am the only one who never realized the black Aminta boots are worn with the wedding dress!?

I've known for awhile. But I'm always looking up Christine's -- what? A family forum? Oh, nevermind then.Callie Daae wrote:Am the only one who never realized the black Aminta boots are worn with the wedding dress!?

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I noticed it because, at the beginning of Final Lair one day, Hugh flung his Christine (I think it was Rebecca Pitcher) across the stage particularly hard.
She looked like she was going to keep sliding right off the edge of the stage. Her legs flew up like a doll's and you could see her black boots.
Once I'd noticed the boots that time, it was impossible not to the notice them the next time.

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Well, I saw Phantom in Sydney (Australia) in 2008 and I distinctly remember in the Final Lair when Ana Marina was thrown onto the stage, the hem of the wedding gown flipped up and I saw her shoes--they were black ankle boots, I remember because I could also see the tops of her grey socks. This doesn't really make sense though, does it, because the Aminta gown cuts at calf length and you'd see ankle boots too easily. Maybe they changed shoes between scenes? Though it seems like an unnecessary hassle....

LOL, oh Raph...
Okay, so what I'm posting isn't really Phantom costuming, but seeing as costume-philes haunt this thread, I have major eye candy in store.
So there's this artist named George Stuart who creates amazing 1/4 scale historical figures, ranging from Native Americans, Renaissance, Medieval, Regency, Victorian, Imperial China, and on and on. If you've ever been to the Ventura County Museum in California, you may have seen some of them. The amount of detail and historical accuracy in these figures is astonishing. Some of them could almost pass for real people just going by photos.
Gallery webpages: http://www.galleryhistoricalfigures.com/gallery.php
I know it sounds silly, but I think I'm most in love with the shoes/boots he makes for the figures - so don't forget to look a the full length shots linked from each figure's page! The footwear so realistically worn and crinkled: http://www.galleryhistoricalfigures.com/Figurefull.php?abvrname=Frederick_II
Anyhow, hope you costumers enjoy. I spent a lot of time on this site yesterday just gawking at the sheer beautiful and technical wizardry behind the creation of these figures.

Love the category "Really awful people"... Thanks for sharing, this really was eye candy.
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I have an important question -- has anyone actually -ordered- a custom replica from someone? How much did they charge? I'm just wondering about pricing my own if I sell stuff or make custom stuff.

I have updated the Phantom of the Opera design gallery with both some new costumes and some new pictures of already present costumes. Here: http://potocostumes.webs.com/ . These were interesting finds:
Victorian fashion plate reminding of Carlotta's red dress:

An early 20th century Masquerade costume in the shape of a butterfly:

Lots of updates on Christine's and Carlotta's costumes to come.

Interesting Phantom Stage replica mask on Etsy. I suppose you have to keep it on with spirit gum. Not sure how the fact that it gets more flexible the longer it sits on your face is a bonus. But hey, it looks well-made. I like the shading, too.

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
OK, so it's not technically a costume, but... I've just finished a Christine charm bracelet.
Basically, I found a good basis in a shop, with a mirror similar to the one on her boudoir, a diamond ring, and a postcard saying "Wish you were here" (with a 19th century bird depiction in front, made me think of the Norwegian "Lille Lotte" poem). I removed some pointless hearts and pearls and stuff, and added the logo mask and the cracked POTO logo (from an awesome mobile charm Josefine bought to me in Japan), as well as a "red scarf" and a red rose. I also added a "Wandering Child" cross.
I'm so happy with the result! I'll post pictures as soon as I have some decent daylight to work with...

Wow, I can only imagine how beautiful that bracelet must be. I can't wait to see some pictures!
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Well, the 17th was my 21st birthday, and to celebrate I had my best friend littlelotty004 up for the weekend! As part of my present she helped me make a costume I've been planning for a while now, Meg's Degas tutu costume. It took us two full days to make the bodice, including a mock-up. The skirts I bought pre-made from London when I was there in July. I may add an overskirt later, but for now I love it the way it is. All up this costume cost me about $78 AUS, with the most expensive thing being the skirts, which were 30 British pounds.

I don't think you need an overskirt, but you could add an upper layer to the skirt of cream gauze or tulle. It would create an interesting colour effect and make the bodice and skirt match even more. Maybe also pink (zig-zag cut) the hem of the skirt? But it's really neat! I love the lace detail in the neck opening.
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I found this earlier today and, for some reason, it reminded me of the 'Wishing' dress. I think that it's because it's striped material, then the apron and the bustle. The latter is only a vague resemblence to me though.

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I promised a picture of the Christine bracelet I made some while ago (that is, I changed a good basis):
Plaque with logo: from a mobile jewelry thing Josefine bought me in Japan.
Mask: ditto.
Rose: bought at random bead shop.
Mirror: original on the necklace.
Ring: ditto.
Note: ditto.
Apple: taken fromRaphael another bracelet.
Cross: bough in one of the catacombs in Rome.
Wearing it today. People usually think it's an interesting item, even without me telling them of Phantom. And to be honest, I wish RUG would make something similar to the 25th anniversary event - a bracelet or similar where you could clip on the items you wanted. A mask, apple, ring, rose, monkey music box, severed head (lol), the logo and whatnot. I wish they made something special for the anniversary, and something people wanted to buy. I mean, I like the T shirts and magic mugs, but they're not exactly new any more...

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Why do perfect fabrics have to be waaaay too expensive and too little left of them anyway? Found two smashing ones today, which was near identical to some used in Phantom, but... yeah...
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I browsed shops for fabrics for Carlotta's red dress. I found the perfect paisley fabric for the bodice and overskirt, almost identical to the one used in Denmark, Spain and elsewhere. I SO want to copy this:Phantomlove wrote:Yeah, it sucks. Which costumes would they be used for?
But there were only 2,5 meters left, which is enough for the bodice and sleeves, but not the draped overskirt. Baaah. On the other hand, I couldn't afford it anyway. So... There were also a most suitable blackish red taffeta for the pleated underskirt. But no good velvet in sight.
In the mean time I'm working on stuff I haven't done before, as a part of my 2011 blog project. One person challenged me to make a Phantom costume in one week only. I'm trying... Won't tell which one it is yet, but it's from Masquerade.

Stockings, check.
Bodice, halfway finished. Doing raw seams and zipper now, then decorating.
Skirt - eeeh. Have the fabric, not sure how to technically make it.
Tiara, not finished.
Prop, not finished.
It might be doable to make the costume in one week (granted I can't work on it all the time), but it's a heck of a lot of work...

Oh I hope you're making what I think you're making. It's one of my favorites in Masquerade.

That sounds really intriguing Operafantomet. I can't wait to see what you are making. I'm trying to guess.
Does this mean that we can challenge you to do different costumes? What fun that would be. I still think you should recreate an imperialistic painting, preferebaly a Renoir or Degas .
And yes, it sucks big time about that Carlotta fabric. I would so much want to see you make a replica of her red dress. It's one of the coolest dresses ever.

NOOO! It's a one-time challenge!Phantomlove wrote:That sounds really intriguing Operafantomet. I can't wait to see what you are making. I'm trying to guess.

But year, Carlotta's red dress in European style would kick ass. The curved neck opening and the draped overskirt just makes me drool so much. And the colours are gorgeous. But it'll be an expensive one... Two rows of pleated underskirt of blackish red silk taffeta WITH three rows of various velvet trims each... paisley silk for bodice, overskirt and backdrapes... red velvet, preferably green shot, tassels, cords, trims and buttons... Oi! Not sure I can defend such an expense.
Brianne, I think it's the one you're thinking of... It's one of the most vibrant Masquerade costumes, me think. Two more days... baaah.
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
I think I know which one you are making... We'll see if I'm right.
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Oooooh! Can't wait to see what this costume looks like. Looking at the clues, I'll join the others with having a certain costume in mind that they hope it is. Either way, it'll be awesome to see.

Oooh! Very curious now about which one of the costumes you're making and I'm so looking forward to see it. One week, wow!
