Oooh, this picture is gorgeous. What have you re-vamped on it? I can't remember what it looked like before.littlelotty004 wrote:well after what seems like forever, my almost finished re-vamped wishing dress got a work out yesterday in Beechworth:

As for me: poofy underskirt of silly large dimensions is finished. 't is for the Elissa skirt. Pics to come.
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
OMG, I'm loving this slavegirl costume replica! What he/she has done with the golden collar is really, really funky.

ETA: Here's (for the most) copies of Bjørnson costumes used in a Brazilian amateur production from 2008 (Universida de Estadual de Santa Cruz). Not sure how legal it was, but the costumes are recognizable enough... Except for that maid??

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Have made giant underskirt of doom for the Elissa skirt... 2 meters of solid cotton, 15 meters of black netting, and lots of patience - et voilà! The underskirt is a lot less poofy when the Elissa skirt is put on top, it's quite heavy cause of the ca. 15 meters of fabric used. Not counting the tabs, trims and beads! I made a cotton base, ca. calf length. I added one small ruffled layer at the hem, then another one on top of that, and then a long one was put on top of these. I've also added two meters of netting in the back, to help the bustle shape. The underskirt is sewn to the green skirt.
Sooo... This costume is as good as finished! Little things remain - fixing + attaching tassels on hem, decorate the tabs some more, iron the hem anew, tuck down the backdrapes so the waterfall folds will stay in place, adding more hooks and eyes in the back - and removing all needles! Hopefully I'll get the costume on eBay next week sometime.
i ask in all honesty: what starting price should I put on it? I've spent half a year and lot of money on it. Although this is a donation meant for the pink ribbon campaign, I don't want to part with this too cheap. And the money is for such a good cause. At the same time I don't want to scare off potential buyers. Opinions on this?

How much did the materials for the skirt cost you?operafantomet wrote:Have made giant underskirt of doom for the Elissa skirt... 2 meters of solid cotton, 15 meters of black netting, and lots of patience - et voilà! I'm no expert on pricing handcrafted items, but I think you need to price is above all the money you've spent on it at the very least. You've done an AMAZING job on it, you've worked INSANELY hard and since it's for the pink ribbon campaign, you really don't feel bad about pricing it higher.

Sorry if I sound off, but has this ever been shared in here?
Pretty Designs of the Wedding Dress and Elissa Skirt
I think Anea might like them. (If they have been shared, I'll just say that they are gorgeous. )

I've shared that link in the past, but it might have been on the old POL forum and not here. I especially love that Elissa backside, so elegant! And what I would give for a bigger picture of the Sylvian Glade costume...And you're absolutely right, I "might" like them.ML6 wrote:Sorry if I sound off, but has this ever been shared in here?

Viscountess, I tried to to an estimate on how much I've spent on the Elissa costume (V02). I think we're talking approximately NOK 3500,- ($580), possibly more. I've tried to use scraps as far as I could, but most of the trims and main fabrics had to be purchased. I've used around 65 meters of trims and ribbons for this one, and you can't even tell!
Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Then you absolutely cannot charge any less than $600. You owe it to yourself to sell something you made so beautifully for a price that you can feel justifies your work, if that makes any sense.operafantomet wrote:Viscountess, I tried to to an estimate on how much I've spent on the Elissa costume (V02). Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Posed this question on the other board too, but I wanted to get more opinions before I made the next move:
One of the fabrics shown below is $22 a yard while the other is $8 a yard. The scanner killed the colors a bit, but they're both more of a lilac/purple, rather than bluish. The colors are like *perfectly* in line with the version that Jessi Erhlich more if that helps any.
The longer swatch is this gorgeous Chinese brocade with flowers while the squarer one has a paisley-esque print going on.
Which one do you guys like better?

The slavegirls don't wear cuffs in London right?

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
No, you're right. I don't know why, but they don't. They are clear enough in the costume design, but the original production didn't have them, and they've never been introduced to the London costumes in later years either.Callie Daae wrote:The slavegirls don't wear cuffs in London right?
However, they did wear them in early European productions like Stockholm, Hamburg and Vienna. In other European productions it varies. The original Broadway production also had them, and they've been in the US productions since. Ditto for Canada and Australia, while Japan only adapted them recently (when they started copying the US costumes).

Anea, please allow me to join in the chorus of congratulations - that Elissa skirt turned out absolutely gorgeously! I LOVE it! I keep my finegrs crossed for a bidding war. It's certainly more than deserving!

Re: Phantom costumes - real and replicas 1
Ok. So I received the signed costume items from the Ebay auction in the other thread. Definitely some cool pieces there! Hugh's Raoul scarf is awesome! I hung it up on my Hamburg Raoul tailcoat. There was also a pair of Karen Culliver's pointe shoes. There were also four bowties signed by the folks who wore them: George Lee Andrews' Firmin tie, Jeff Keller's Andre tie, Gary Rideout's Piangi tie, and the best one was Hugh's Raoul tie. What makes Hugh's so awesome is that, besides the fat that it was Hugh's, it has another name on the inside of it. GRAY!! It was Kevin Gray's bowtie when he was Raoul in NY!! Woo-Hoo!!!! Then there is the signed shirt that was included....this one has me puzzled. There is no tag inside for which actor it belonged to. The manufacturer tag inside the collar indicates that it's from a high end haberdashery shop that closed in NY. But get this--the shirt buttons up the back. I'll post pics of this stuff later. Gotta go play hockey!
