I think our favourite temperamental diva deserves a topic, don't you? My top ten would probably look something like this:
Priti Coles
Kim Stengel (seen live)
Kazuo Kawai
Margaret Mary Kane
Anette Stridh
Kris Koop
Rosemary Ashe
Elena Jeanne Batman

At the moment:
Kris Koop
Anne Runolfsson
Patricia Philips
Though the first two are so close that it's essentially a tie.

It's all about Kim Stengel for me. I've never seen her equal, live or otherwise.

Re: Favourite Carlottas
Oh yeah, Kim Stengel all the way! I also really loved the chick who played in Toronto during the last months of the old Canadian production, though I've forgotten her name. Actually, her performance, as I remember it, was very similar to Stengel's now that I think about it. Great vocals, and great comedy!

Wendy Fergusson and Nicola Rutherford, I can't decide who I like best.

Re: Favourite Carlottas
Kim Stengel is one that I've seen and I liked her but I also saw Patricia Phillips and I think that I'm more partial to her performance. I've heard Kris Koop is great too. She played Christine as well, didn't she?
Re: Favourite Carlottas
Wendy Ferguson and Kate Radmilovic (I seem to be in the minority liking Kate, but I thought she was fantastic).

Seriously, seek out Vera Bosirova on YouTube. She's not afraid to improvise, ha-ha!
Re: Favourite Carlottas
After seeing her last night, Rebecca Lock is by far my favourite! I want to go again just to see her!

Re: Favourite Carlottas
Only seen pictures of Valda Aviks, but always fun to hear details about those doing the role "pre internet" (you know what I mean).
Very sad I didn't get to see Rebecca Lock. Everyone seems crazy about her! I saw a good understudy (Melanie Growie), but she reminded me a bit too much of Wendy Ferguson. Most people loved WF, so it's not a bad thing, but I was never a big fan of WF...

I've not seen Melanie Gowie, but I've heard she's quite similar to Wendy Ferguson. It's a shame you didn't see Rebecca or the second cover, Nicola Rutherford. Both are brilliant, and quite different to Wendy.

Re: Favourite Carlottas
I prefer Nicola's voice to Melanie's, I would actually rather she were first cover but Rebecca just owns the role I think.

Re: Favourite Carlottas
I agree, Rebecca owns the role. However, I would love to see Nicola again as she's my second favourite Carlotta.
