Re: The Broadway production + US tour
He could be a vacation cover for both productions, I guess. So if someone is out for an extended period of time on Broadway, he covers there, and then if someone takes a leave on tour, he hops over to whatever city they're in. Kind of what David Gaschen and Stephen Tewksbury, among others, have been doing for years.phantomgirl110 wrote:Kyle is a cover for the tour? Oh yay! I knew he'd been back in the Broadway production recently, but didn't realize he was currently associated with the tour.

Makes perfect sense to me. I just haven't heard him mention the tour on Twitter recently, haha.SenorSwanky wrote:He could be a vacation cover for both productions, I guess. Re: The Broadway production + US tour
I don't think he's actually in Durham, nor is Lorey. I think they just go about their usual business wherever they live and then get called into action like secret agents, should the need arise, which I wouldn't be surprised if it does soon, considering the approaching holidays and the crazy comings and goings. Seriously, the Playbill lists 2 Piangis, 4 Auctioneers, 2 Lefevres, 3 swings, 2 vacation covers, and a partridge in a pear tree.phantomgirl110 wrote:Makes perfect sense to me. Broadway Across America recently announced the 2010 season for Atlanta. Phantom is scheduled to come to Atlanta in July. The dates are June 30-July 25, 2010. I'm super excited!

Can someone tell me who the oldest man to play the Phantom was? I always thought it was PK, but Guillaume was 61 or 62 when he played the role.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
I think it's still Guillaume. Consult this thread:phantom10906 wrote:Can someone tell me who the oldest man to play the Phantom was? I always thought it was PK, but Guillaume was 61 or 62 when he played the role.

Click here for a video interview with John Cudia and George Lee Andrews, plus some of the same old Cudia/Raab proshot they always use. Bonus: an adorable photo of Cudia's baby daughter Alena Joyce!
Click here for a video interview with just John Cudia and some more of that old proshot.
Click here for an article about the show, featuring an interview with Hal Prince and tidbits from Tim Martin Gleason and Trista Moldovan.

Holy CRAP I am so happy someone pointed me in the direction of this board; I've been feeling very bereft!
Anyway, dunno if this is news or not but Michael McCoy has been and will be out of the show for a while; he tore his rotator cuff and won't be able to go back to work until anywhere from April to June. I feel really bad for him.

According to an article on BWW this morning, the Broadway production just broke the house record for weekly grosses at the Majestic.

Re: The Broadway production + US tour
Astonishing, considering the economy and the fact it's past the holiday tourism season.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
This news -- plus the Vegas production having a nearly sold-out crowd only a few days ago -- makes it look like a great start to the year for "Phantom" all-around.Paula74 wrote:According to an article on BWW this morning, the Broadway production just broke the house record for weekly grosses at the Majestic.

When and where did Jan Horvath play Christine and Carlotta?
I did a quick google and saw a couple of backstage pictures of her in Christine's Hannibal slave girl costume and Carlotta's Elissa costume, but didn't see any real details.
When I sorted through my old box of programs last night, I found out that I saw her as Grizabella on the Cats tour in the 90s. Not that it mattered who I saw....the acoustics and my seats were so bad that Michael Crawford could've been Grizabella and it wouldn't have made a difference!

Judging from the style of her Carlotta costume (and the Aminta costume hanging in the background), I'd say late 80's or early 90's. But I don't really know. She was an u/s, yes?Paula74 wrote:When and where did Jan Horvath play Christine and Carlotta?

Ouch on the acoustics!
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
It looks like she started on Broadway in 1988, when the show opened.Paula74 wrote:When and where did Jan Horvath play Christine and Carlotta?

Do you by any chance still have the picture with her in the Slavegirl costume?

Eh, I didn't much care for her the first time she played the role, which was well over a decade ago. I really wish they'd bring in more fresh blood to this show.

Re: The Broadway production + US tour
You know what I realized earlier, when I was listening to a Phantom recording in the car and thinking about the Broadway production? John Cudia is the first straight principal Phantom in the NY production in about 15 years, since Marcus Lovett gave way to Davis Gaines in 1994. Interesting, but inconsequential, coincidence.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
If it's inconsequential, why is it worth mentioning?
Anyhow, I saw this photo on deviantart: http://kawaii-kyouki.deviantart.com/art/Give-My-Regards-to-Broadway-150346306
Looks like they decided to revert back to the old familiar white mask logo for Phantom's Times Square billboard - I think you can see the shape of the creepy CGI Phantom face underneath the huge 3D mask. Photo was taken August 19, so if anyone's already remarked on this, I apologize for being out of the loop.
Akl I can say is, that's more like it

Because I like interesting trivia.Madame Giry wrote:If it's inconsequential, why is it worth mentioning?
I don't like that Times Square billboard much more, if any more, than the one we all hate (I also don't see a face under the mask). I wonder also why the ad is among the masses of billboards and no longer on top of that building.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
Ooooh, I had forgotten about that. Happy birthday, Broadway Phantom!!

It looks like the Canadian logo with the rose and the floor with the mask.
