The Broadway production + US tour
People! Kimilee Bryant will go on as CHRISTINE again, on Broadway!
Date: Thursday, October 1, 2009
Time: 8:00pm - 10:30pm
Location: Majestic Theatre
I think that's pretty awesome. She's played almost all female roles in POTO (only exceptions are Madame Giry and Meg Giry, I think?), but Christine was the role that made her well-known. More here:

Neat! I'm familiar with her portrayal of Carlotta, but have never seen/heard her as Christine. Wonder what her approach to the role is like...?

Huh, that's cool. She was a great Christine back in the day, one of my ten favorites. Is she a swing on Broadway now and this is just a one-time thing? Because I didn't think she was a regular understudy for the role.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
She's listed as an understudy Christine along with Susan Owen in my playbill from June of this year.

Oh really? I wish the Phantom on Broadway site was still updated at least every few months because their previous casts list is invaluable.Raphael wrote:She's listed as an understudy Christine along with Susan Owen in my playbill from June of this year.

Did Kris Koop leave?
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
Not listed in the playbill, so I'd say that's a yes.SenorSwanky wrote:Did Kris Koop leave?

I *think* (but don't quote me on it) that she's understudying Christine and Carlotta as well as serving as a swing. I think I've seen her in every female cast costume except Madame and Meg.... Quite amazing. She's been on as Carlotta quite a few times, that's a role I'd love to see her do some day.Raphael wrote:She's listed as an understudy Christine along with Susan Owen in my playbill from June of this year.

I've seen a poor quality curtain call photo of her as Madame.
She was really terrific. I saw her go on during a matinee around the time when Anne Runolfsson was involved with the NYC Marathon. I was very used to Anne's Carlotta (which I still love), but I really loved Kris...she was a bright, energetic Carlotta. About two weeks later, when I saw her as Christine, it must have been a last-minute sort thing...I remember Hugh saying, "KRIS SAVED THE DAY!!!!"

Are you talking about Kris Koop? Anea was talking about Kimilee Bryant.Paula74 wrote:operafantomet wrote:I think I've seen her in every female cast costume except Madame and Meg.... Quite amazing.

Yes...I was actually replying to two different posts and messed up the quoting because, as usual, I'm trying to pay attention to about twenty things at once.

And it looks like she just went on for Madame Giry.operafantomet wrote:I think I've seen her in every female cast costume except Madame and Meg.... Quite amazing.

Ha-ha, that's just brilliant!
So... anyone going to the Broadway Cares flee market this year? And does anyone know if POTO will be (officially) represented in some way - concert, items for sale etc?

I'm going. Doesn't POTO usually have a table in front of the Majestic?operafantomet wrote:Ha-ha, that's just brilliant!

Apparently Howard's mask from his final performance of Phantom is going up for auction tomorrow:

A note to those planning on attending: because of the rain tomorrow, the Flea Market will now be held indoors at Roseland Ballroom on 52nd St. I've been there before, for Broadway Bares, and it's a pretty large space, so hopefully it won't feel too crowded. I have no idea how the tables are going to be set up, or how everything is even going to get there. Well, at least it's still going ahead.

Re: The Broadway production + US tour
This years bear collection includes a replica of the "Man/woman" costume from Masquerade, and it's signed by Hal Prince and Howard McGillin:
http://www.bcefa.org/events/bearsindex.cfm?Edition=2009&Start=21&End=30
Although detailed as ever, I think the effect of the costume is somehow drowned in the small size - but I'm still in awe of how exact they make the bears compared to their stage counterparts. And cool that Prince + McGillin has signed it!

Re: The Broadway production + US tour
The Flea Market went great! Sales were a bit down from last year, but not too bad, and we did well with the grand auctions. Howard's mask sold for $4,600 (!!) to the guy sitting on my right. I put in some bids for the mask, as well as a framed & signed Sondheim photo, but was outbid on both (the Sondheim photo went to the man on my left! Everyone next to me got the ones I wanted, heh.)
Which never even saw the light of day, as I was able to get it before the crowds even came in, ha!
You mean *this* apple?Dibs on any PoNR apples for sale!

OK, sorry for being so out of the loop... But is Marni Raab now Christine alternate on Broadway? And Kelly Jeanne Grant the alternate in the tour?

Yes they are.
Re: The Broadway production + US tour
EDIT 10/10/09: Ok, so now I'm finding that it's Paloma Garcia-Lee...?
I also found some nice interviews with D.C. Anderson and Kim Stengel. I love it when actors in supporting roles get attention.
