So... Phansonline?
So what happened to PhansOnline.net? I'd been getting Page Load errors for the past week or so, then I saw a link to this forum and signed up here. Anyone know what happened? Who was POL run by, Chris? Did he abandon it?

Re: So... Phansonline?
From the past I remember that happened once in a while, that the forum couldn't load. I think Chris has to contact the forum hosts directly to get it fixed, but I also think he has long deserted POL....
I seem to remember he planned to work abroad for a while, maybe that's why we haven't heard from him in 2009?

Re: So... Phansonline?
Since it's not the first time we can't get access to Phansonline and we don't get any contact with Chris, I would say that maybe it's actually time for us to get a new forum. But still, I would be glad if the old forum could be fixed, we had some interesting topics and discussions going on. And it seems like I can't find my review I published on there so the only way for me to have it back would be from Phansonline.
Re: So... Phansonline?
This is our 4th site so far! First MFN, then PFN (and I think that went down once or twice) then POL! Crazy.

For stability's sake, we really need a team of die-hard phans as admins. You know, the kind of folks that you have to pry away from Phantom. That way when something goes wrong, you know you'll have access to at least one person who can do something about it.

I very much agree with that.Raphael wrote:For stability's sake, we really need a team of die-hard phans as admins. You know, the kind of folks that you have to pry away from Phantom. I too hope POL will be back. Despite the crash last year, there's still so much interesting topics and stuff there that I'd like to save. We phans definitely need a stabile, durable home after all the moving, there's so much lost every time. This forum is a bit of a dare, as it's free and a ready-to-use concept - not sure about the capacity and durability, but I choose to be optimistic. So far MasqPhan has signed up for the task of moderating, and Josefine - with a new and cool nick I dare you to figure out, he-he - will get admin rights as well.
But I think it's a wise idea to spread the responsibility and "power". We also need people from different time zones.... Anyone NOT from Scandinavia who wants to jump on board? I know several who fits the description the kind of folks that you have to pry away from Phantom...
Thank you for valuable feedback.
Re: So... Phansonline?
I would be interested in joining up if ye all will have me. I'm in Hawaii, so I can possibly keep an eye on stuff even after those of you in the continental US have gone to sleep. And yes, you'll need a crowbar and a can of pepper spray to get me away from Phantom. Mwahahaha...
I very much agree that multiple mods and/or admins are essential for keeping a major board up. I hope POL will return, as well -- there were some fantastic topics, discussions, and pictures there!

Re: So... Phansonline?
Well I am gutted as I used to talk to someone on there and stupidly (as we were in the middle of an ongoing conversation) didn't get their email, and they don't have facebook and not even sure if they go on other sites (well they go on WOS and Dress Circle) and I have lost contact with them. Sigh But yay for a new forum.

Thank you for volunteering, it has been duly noted and I'll PM you two later on.
Re: So... Phansonline?
Actually, PFN then MFN (which was a h€ll hole of crappiness that yielded a smaller but better POL that was vibrant until the crash, and then it was never the same). The original PFN was the best in terms of heavy posting by informed, rational, articulate fans, but it got taken over and converted to MFN by whatshisname that owned it, and the mods he chose for MFN were my least favorite members of the old PFN, and I regularly clashed with them there and at MFN when I did try to post there for a short while. Plus, the hordes of new teeny-bopper members and unnecessary forums for musicals no one likes just turned me off. I hope we can turn this into something good.Cape Twirl of Doom wrote:This is our 4th site so far! First MFN, then PFN (and I think that went down once or twice) then POL! Crazy.

I just noticed, who knows for how long it will stay up this time?
Re: So... Phansonline?
Not trusting the stability of POL either... Glad it's back, though - lots of important POL fan history there. I'm saving my fav. topics and threads for all it's worth...
Re: So... Phansonline?
YAY! But yeah, I'm a little iffy on the stability. And I find it a bit funny (not ha-ha funny, but the other kind) that so far, only one person has dared to post so far since its return. I'm guessing everyone else is worried as well.
And yes, I'm also saving my favorite discussions/threads. Convert-to-PDF is a wonderful thing, indeed.

Re: So... Phansonline?
The ironic thing is...just before POL went down this time, I was thinking of saving a couple of threads and a bunch of photos. I never got around to it and *poof*
I'll probably do exactly that today...just in case.

Re: So... Phansonline?
I'd recommend people gather contact info of other phans and direct them this way if possible as a back-up forum should POL prove unstable.

I can think of a few people I'd like to send this way...I've kept in touch with them mainly through Facebook and a couple of other boards. I don't want to just post the link on my wall, though, because there's a certain person there who tries to use me as a proxy to stalk a certain former Phantom and...well...I don't want her to think I'm inviting her out of some imaginary (on her part) friendship.
But I'll track down the others later today.
Re: So... Phansonline?
So is anyone going to post a "move over here!"-type message on POL for those who still aren't aware of this place?

I just did, now we just have to wait and see how many that will actually read it. I'm not sure everyone have noticed that the forum is up again. It was gone for quite a long time and maybe some gave up trying to get access. There's not much activity going on at Phansonline that's for sure, about three people have started posting there again.

I think you're right in that it was down so long that some people might have just given up on it entirely. I've been lurking there since it came back up, but just don't have anything to say there...I've been saying it all here.
Hopefully, though, anyone checking back there will see your message.
Re: So... Phansonline?
As much as I'd like people to jump over here and join the fun, I feel a bit bad to post a "join this forum instead" in another forum. I do want people to know about the forum, and I'm not one of those who thinks any kind of linking to other forums should be forbidden (like in the old phantomfans/musicalfans). Linking in general should be allowed. But to openly request people to desert one forum to join another? Somehow I don't think that's fair to the forum owners.Scorp wrote:So is anyone going to post a "move over here!"-type message on POL for those who still aren't aware of this place?
I am very happy for the activity here though, so maybe I'm just being hypocritical?
ETA: It was nicely put, though - "we now have a new place to hang out at if the forum should go down again".
Re: So... Phansonline?
I don't believe that is something we should feel bad about, we can hang out a both forums. If Phansonline goes down again we have a place to be instead. It's not our fault that Chris hasn't been around and there's no other moderator who can help us out.
Re: So... Phansonline?
True, the fact that he hasn't been around at all in 2009 made me feel rather deserted over there. And I have felt bad for the people who's not understood/heard where everybody went, so mentioning where people is is probably just fair.
Re: So... Phansonline?
I'm really pleased to find this place. I don't think anyone should feel bad about posting the link on 'pol' now it's back, when a friend of mine wanted to join just before it disappeared I checked for her and there'd been no new members this year. In fact she's set up a small group herself now, but I've told her about this one.

Re: So... Phansonline?
I see nothing wrong with posting the link to this place over at POL, especially since it was very tactfully worded. It's not like a certain guy who runs a Phantom fan group on FB who started spamming his members's inboxes there with a message to join his forum now that POL was down. His forum has been around for some time, but just never really went anywhere...and I remember him posting a link to it at POL. He wasn't so tactful about it and I think he left after that.
It was pretty unfair to the members for Chris to desert POL. I completely understand that, sometimes, real life demands have to take priority over running a forum. But he could've very easily assigned someone to take over admin duties in his absence.
I was looking over the site stats report for Hugh's site a couple of days ago and I noticed that, because POL appears on the links page and has been mentioned on the forum, when it went down this time, phrases like "what happened to phansonline" were appearing in my search phrase stats. I know that, for most of this year, phrases like "why can't i register at phansonline" were appearing, too.
Given this community's history of sticking together since the demise of PFN, the drama of POL going down early on, etc...to have it just abandoned without any admins and then to go down entirely at the worst time...right on the eve of a major phan event like the Vegas gathering...it's totally reasonable to let the members there know about this place as another option.

Re: So... Phansonline?
Hello everyone! I've arrived here, too.
To me, the problem with POL is that there is so little going on lately, even in threads that used to be very busy, such as the Spam topic. Remember when the Spam topic was hundreds of pages long? These days, no one posts there for days at a time. It makes me wonder whether I should post at all, seeing that so few people seem to be reading it.

*sighs* Surprise, surprise! At least now I know it's not just my computer. Before I read that it's the same for you guys, I was starting to get worried.
