I can't believe we haven't already got a soapbox. It's such an important part of every forum. Wink

Here's my rant for today:

In the house where I live, the fridge / freezer has not been working properly for at least a week. Yesterday, British Gas finally sent someone over. The guy told us that there was such a thick layer of ice in the freezer that it affected the cooling, also in the fridge. In order to get it to work again, we'd have to unplug it for at least three days. Now, if it had been for me, we'd have got all the food out and unplugged the fridge on Wednesday night. In the end, however, I was the only one who cleared out her part. It's Thursday night now, and I'm still waiting for the others to do their part.

What really annoys me is that in general, my housemates aren't the type who doesn't do anything. It's just in that special case that they seem to be hoping that the problem will go away if only they wait long enough. Well, it won't. The longer we wait, the longer it'll take till the fridge will work again properly. I've tried talking to them, but all I hear is, "But there's still so much food in the freezer. I'll eat it tomorrow". Why can't they understand that if the food has been in the broken freezer for a week, chances are it's spoilt anyway? So why not throw it away? I just want the fridge and freezer to work again as quickly as possible. My housemates may be content with ordering food every night and buying new milk every day, but I think it's a waste of money - money I don't have. I guess I'll have to speak to them again. And if that fridge is not unplugged by tomorrow, I'll do it myself.

So I’ve been living in this really crappy home situation for the past year and a half, and have been struggling to try to move out for quite sometime (I won’t get into that in this post, maybe some other day. Oh, the stories I have…) But anyway, I’ve finally gotten into a position where I can move out, and about a month ago, set January 30th as the day I move into my new apartment. That would be this Saturday.

Anyway, my boyfriend’s parents are really wonderful people, and they’ve been really supportive through all of this. (Heck, they even offered to let me move in with them!). They have a van, and they promised to let me use it when I move. Well, my boyfriend messages me laaate tonight (Wednesday) and informs me that his parents are getting a new car and are trading in the van for it. On Friday.

So I am informed three days before the move that one day before the move that the van I was relying on is being traded in. So bloody p.o.ed right now I started crying. (and I go out of my way to not cry, it gives me an awful headache in the morning.) I’m stuck with a bunch of my stuff and furniture and no way to move it. I don’t have the money for a moving van or trailer.

But what almost upsets me more than the fact that I’m really screwed by being told last minute that I don’t have a van to move my stuff, but the fact that his parents are actually doing this. They’ve always been so nice and considerate to me in the past, but now they won’t even wait a weekend to trade in this van, after they’ve promised us we could use it? I just feel really hurt and insulted.

I'm really irritated with my mother right now, and maybe I'm just being a typical teenager, but I'm sick of being yelled at for things that are beyond my control. Like, for instance, the fact that our dog jumped on the couch while I wasn't home. Or the fact that his paws are now covered in mud because our yard is one huge mud pit. Or the fact that our whole house smells like dog. Mad

Well, alright, haters of the sequel who go as far as saying that ALW "deserved" his bout with cancer because he's working on a sequel to their effin' holy grail POTO ought to be *censored words here*. It's a goddam Bway show, he isn't rewriting the Holy Bible. And it's his show, he can do with it whatever he likes. Besides, nobody is forced to go see LND. (I know I won't, even though "Till I hear you sing" is a gorgeous song)

I definitely agree with you about the wrongness of those people saying ALW "deserved" his cancer. Whether I like the idea of LND or not, NO ONE deserves cancer. That is not an acceptable thing to say no matter what. I wonder if those who've said such things have ever actually even had to deal with the disease themselves. Likely not. No

Of course ALW did not deserve his cancer. To suggest that is horrible. I've had cancer myself so i know what a hell it can be. I haven't seen that many people saying he deserved it though, but I did see some jokes about it that were in very poor taste. If there is one thing I admire it is that ALW has gone out publicly with his cancer and stressed the importance of men going to check ups. For this he has my respect.

Is there something about me that tells people it's okay to only speak to me when they need attention (and to tell me that they're only talking to me because no one else is online) or when they need homework help? Because it's not just one person. It's several people.

My chest is so congested right now, I seriously can't breathe. And, to make matters worse, I might have to present an oral essay tomorrow, and I can't even get through a practice run without running out of breath.

And none of this would have happened had my brother called to let someone know he couldn't pick me up from school. Or, better yet, had he decided that, once he moved out, he should get his own car instead of taking the car he shares with my other brother and me.

Why is it so hard to date, or more importantly, find a guy who isn't such a jerk. I just have to ask that because it bugs the hello-kitty out of me. Sad

What's hard for me is finding a guy who appreciates when a girl is into musicals. I can appreciate what they're into, because I'm a bit of a tomboy. But when it comes to a girl, I throw a fit because they look right over me. I'm almost ready to give up.

When a guy admits they're into musical theatre, that's always a plus for me. Not only that, it shows that you're sensitive. Awwww. Seriously, perhaps you and I should just leave our states and travel to find better partners for ourselves.

That happened to my friend a few years ago. I walked into a pool with my phone last July 4th because I forgot it was still in my pocket. It turned off immediately, but someone told me to take out the battery, let everything air dry in the sun, and then put it back together after a few hours. It screwed up the screen at first, and the phone didn't work very well for a few days, but it eventually went back to working normally.

I was just rejected from my top-choice college today too. Part of me really wants to cry, but I can't help but feel numb. Man, what a crappy week. As for the phone, it's warranty covered, so they're going to give me a new one (After the first cellphone I had went through the washer and the second screen got cracked while in my pocket on a roller coaster, my grandma just decided to be safe.) but they don't have my model anymore. gar.

Well, I may have been screwed out of grad school for a year and $400+ dollars. In December I asked four professors to write letters of recommendation for me, all of whom agreed to do so. Deadlines were anywhere between Jan 1-Feb 1, and each of them knew that. End of January comes and one professor e-mails me saying he hasn't submitted a letter yet, because he feels my academic statement of purpose is "too vague." I asked him to specify, as I felt I had given them everything they asked for.
A few weeks later he finally gets around to sending me examples of how they should sound, and they're all five bloody pages long, and all essentially have their doctoral thesis worked out. Well, one, all the schools I'm applying to have 500 word limits, and, two, I have a general sense of what I want to do, but I don't have it spelled out to the letter. I was really hoping grad school would be the place where this would be decided - not bloody undergrad. His argument was that he didn't have enough information about what I wanted to do to give me a good letter. So seeing as it was too late to re-write the statements, I gave him all the information I had, as detailed as I could. I went to great lengths to get this all sorted out.
And now, beginning of March, he still says, "I still think it's too vague..." Well, screw you. No other professor had a problem with my statements. I know every grad student I've ever known enters grad school having as equally vague idea of what they want to research as I do. Just write the bloody letter. Tell them how I've gotten a 4.0 in every class I've taken with you, tell them I always go above and beyonf what is required, that I have advanced analytical and writing skills, and everything else you've told me about myself throughout the years I've had you as a professor!

I called two of the grad schools I applied to. One said admission letters have already gone out, and it may or may not have hurt my chances of getting admissions. The other said that they might accept my app with one letter short, and if they won't, they'll contact me. I'll call the others withinn the next few days. But I'm so irritated because not only does this mess up my future plans, but I spent $400+ on these app fees. Money that I didn't even actually have - I had to get private student loan money at an exorbitant interest rate to pay them. So God knows how much those fees actually cost me.

Yeah, and I have to have a small outpatient procedure done on my foot tomorrow. I've had it done before, and last time, it was five months before it actually healed. So potential pain and limping for up to the next five months...

Post  phantomphan1992 Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:28 am

This could quite easily have been one of the longest days of my life. It's actually felt like several days.

Before lunch, I was in a really good mood and everything was going pretty well.

Then, at lunch, my best friend comes to the table, and we take a walk so she can talk to me. I had no idea what was going on, but I assumed it was related to either her older sister or her parents, so when she told me her aunt had been murdered, that was, well, completely unexpected. But we had to spend the rest of lunch pretending nothing was wrong because she didn't want everyone to know what happened so no one would feel obligated to be overly... nice, I guess, to her.

Then, after school, I talked with my grandmother on Facebook for a while, until I got a call from my best friend, who was crying and asking me to stay on the phone with her. I asked her if she'd rather I picked her up and brought her to my house, and she said yes, so I drove (for the first time since... probably July or August) my dad's massive truck to get her, and we watched Up until her sister's best friend came and picked her up.

Then my aunt dropped my little cousin off because she had to go to a Taylor Swift concert and her husband had to work late (I gave her a big hug, by the way), so I watched him for a little less than an hour, and we finished watching Up.

Then he left, and my mom came home from picking my dad up at the train station, and things pretty much went back to normal.

And the events of each one of those paragraphs felt like a separate day. I'm not exactly complaining, because when my best friend calls me up crying after something like that happens to her, I'm going to do anything I can to help her. But I'm completely exhausted. I guess it's a good thing I have break next week.

We're getting ready to move, because long story short my dad cheated on my mom.

It's my sister, my mom and I. Turns out my dad WASN'T refinancing the mortgage while he was out of work for 9 months, he was wasting money on his girlfriend (who tried to friend me on facebook FYI. AUGH) and neglecting us.

We have a garage sale tomorrow. We'd LIKE to make $1,000 but we're nervous because it's the weekend after Christmas. We have 2 rentals we've seen that we really like but my dad has completely @#^&'d up my mom's credit because their married and the mortgage was in both their names. The house went up for auction 3 days ago so we have about a month to get out. My sister is really traumatized because SHE is the one who found his condoms and my dad's family is really pissed that my sister and I are pissed at him because "no matter what he's done he's still your father".

It's completely frustrating. I'm getting stress zits. Additionally someone %$&#'d up my background check so the job I'm trying to get denied me. I FINALLY got a copy of my background report and someone MISREAD a DISMISSED MISDEMEANOR TRAFFIC VIOLATION as a felony.

How the %$@&%@ does that happen?!

So yeah. @$%^ it. I'm writing a script and sending it to Lifetime because that's totally what my life is right now. Mad

I'm so sorry to hear about all the trouble you're going through Alyssa!

If you don't have much luck with the garage sale, I would suggest putting any C.D.s, movies, or books you may be selling on half.com, or other items on Ebay or Overstock. Sometimes you get niche items that won't sell in an a localized area but will get a decent amount of money with a wider range of buyers. (For example, I imagine many people would just toss the Playbills and souvenir brochures would pay a lot of money for!)

I wish I could give you advice on the more pressing issues you have. Definitely contact the court regarding the traffic offense to start to get that sorted out. Good luck and stay strong!

Alyssa, that's just awful. I'm really sorry you're going through that. *hugs* I have a friend that had almost the same thing happen in her family. So I know how it is from a IRL perspective on my side. But its awful hearing about it happening to other people, and the fact your father is so nonchalant about it too.

Short story: Built up a three year relationship with my therapist who is mega awesome. Insurance has changed and now my therapist doesn't take my insurance. Crushed because I need her to talk about my OCD with, I can't see building another three year relationship with someone else. Just to see her, it costs a 160 dollars each time. And my paychecks are give or take 300 - 400. And I see her twice in a month. Where in the world am I going to get this money? Sad

I have OCD too, even though by now it's not very bad. (Has been worse.) Now I mostly worry for my dogs, because there's some man around here who steals them from front yards.. Sad

For me, my main subject of fear changes yearly. Three years ago they were cancer and another diseases, and two years ago they were chemicals.
Now I've started knocking wood, which is really annoying. Every single time if I think of someone dying or injuring I have to knock wood. If there's no wood around or there's another people near, I become anxious and I can't think of everything else. (When I was writing this, I had to knock wood..)

But sorry to hear that, must be really hard for you! Sad

Sad

Wow, I see the similarities instantly. Yep, that's me all right. The main reason I started going was my fear of eating disorders, which then switched to suicide, and then switched to airplane terrorism. I haven't had any of the rituals expect self diagnosis. So, I guess that can be one in general.

Why are men so random? Why after a number of years can you still not understand them at times? Really? I'd love to hear a mans P.O.V on this.
